Behavioral Challenges for Retirement Planning

Standard economic theory based on the rationality assumption predicts optimal provisions for retirement by individuals. However, empirical data shows substantial under-saving for retired life by citizens of both developed and developing countries. This article attempts to test the role of selected heuristics as well as the influence of framing of choices in financial decision-making for retirement through a structured questionnaire. Responses were obtained from a sample of 87 employees from the Information Technology industry in Pune, Maharashtra, showed that a relatively high proportion of the sample reported failure to meet their own savings targets. The authors also observed a relatively small percent of the sample was seeking advice from financial experts Results of chi-square tests further confirmed the existence of the selected heuristics and framing effects in the context of the sample. The suggested ubiquitousness of selected behavioral tendencies widens the scope of policy formulation and intervention by regulatory authorities for optimal retirement planning.

Abstract Background In an effort for better memory, greater motivation and concentration, otherwise healthy individuals use Pharmaceutical Cognitive Enhancers (PCE), medicines for the treatment of cognitive deficits of patients with various disorders and health problems, to achieve greater productivity, efficiency, and performance. Methods In our study, we examined the use of PCE use among 289 students at the Slovenian Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the behavioral and psychosocial context (students’ attitudes towards study, parents, health, leisure time and work). Furthermore, we addressed also the immediate reasons, or the hypothesized connections of behavioral and psychosocial aspects, related to PCE misuse. The study consisted of a structured questionnaire, and the chi-square tests were used. Results An analysis of student statements revealed differences in students` and parents` attitudes toward good academic grades. In addition, students chose among 17 values relating to relationships with parents, friends, partners, careers, study obligations, leisure, hobbies, material goods, appearance and the future, and assessed their importance. Regardless of the group they belonged to, young people cited the same values among the most important. Good grades and parental opinions have proven to be key factors in the context of PCE abuse. Conclusions This research was the first study to examine the relation between PCE misuse and the role of different behavioral and psychosocial factors. However, the further research is needed, both on the actual effects of PCE on healthy people, as well as on continuing research towards behavioral and psychosocial factors.

The information technology industry is subject to rapid change. There have been concerns expressed in the literature about the ability of information technology professionals to keep up to date with developments, and it is likely that it is even more difficult for students to do so. New graduates require marketable skills in order to gain good employment, but the skills most in demand change regularly. This chapter reports on a project that investigated the channels of information that undergraduate and postgraduate telecommunications management and electronic commerce students use to keep up to date with employers’ needs. The role of instructors in this process is also discussed.

The purpose of the current empirical research paper is to study and comprehend the significant factors that influence the entrepreneurial behavior through a detailed survey among the key employees of the information technology (IT) industry. The data thus collected from the survey was examined through the method of Partial Least Squares (PLS) for evaluating the relationship among the constructs of the conceptual research model. The results of the current empirical research study reveal that entrepreneurship-institutional linkage has the strongest effect on entrepreneurial behavior, followed by role of outsourcing and nature of the industry. The hypothesized path relationships between significant factors and entrepreneurial behavior have been found to be statistically significant. The top management of the companies in the IT industry have to focus and provide more importance to the entrepreneurship-institutional linkages which plays a key role in developing entrepreneurial behavior among the employees and in due course lead to innovative products and services and the over-all development of the organization.

Abstract There is a unique link between leadership qualities and organizational success. Leadership is the problem of many organizations but little attention is given to leadership-related research. This paper aimed to examine the qualities of a good leader using principal component analysis (PCA). The study adopted a quantitative research approach by eliciting perceptions of respondents on the qualities of a good leader through structured questionnaire. One hundred and fifty (150) questionnaires were administered to top management of companies within the construction industry, banking industry, food industry, and information technology industry. One hundred and twenty-seven (127) were retrieved and considered for further analysis. The data obtained were analyzed using PCA. The findings revealed the principal qualities of a good leader to be: 1) accessibility and dedication, 2) neutrality and modesty, 3) aspiration and attentiveness, 4) believe and aptitude, 5) dignity and amiability, 6) insight and confidence, 7) vitality and concentration, 8) originality and honesty, 9) responsibility and team spirit, 10) decency and self-assurance, 11) charitable, 12) comical and maintenance culture, and 13) reliability. It is recommended that leaders should demonstrate these leadership qualities to enhance organizational effectiveness and efficiency.


Emotional Intelligence is understood as an essential component to succeed in professional life and to lead a balanced social life. The role of managers is imperative especially in the IT industry. This study was administered to analyze the level of influence emotional intelligence can have on the performance of Managers in the IT Industry. Questionnaire method was adopted to gather the data from Managers working in the Information Technology Industry. The tool deployed for this study was SPSS to check the research hypothesis. The results of the present analysis show that there was a positive influence of EI on the performance of the managers which in turn contributes to the organizational effectiveness. Further, the output of the ANOVA test analysis indicates that there exists a notable difference in the influence of emotional intelligence on the performance of managers which in turn enhances the organization’s effectiveness

The main objective of this study was to identify the motivational factors in selecting a teaching profession by the teachers.  A random sampling technique was used for the selection of the sample consisting of 27 girls’ schools of District Kohat as the sample. A structured questionnaire was developed in closed format on the basis of factors identified through observation by the teachers. The data collected through the questionnaires about various aspects of the study were presented in percentages in tabular form and applied to a Chi-square test.

The Information Technology (IT) industry is one that is characterised by rapid change and a heavy reliance on human skills. A study was conducted to qualitatively explore the role of the Human Resource (HR) function in the South African IT industry. Semi-structured individual and focus group interviews with professionals in this function highlighted many opportunities for HR to render a more strategic role in an environment where a skills shortage and many related problem areas exist. The implications of these findings are discussed and proposals for redefining the role of HR in the specific industry are offered.
