Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the effect of Er,Cr:YSGG laser on the shear bond strength (SBS) and surface topography of two CAD/CAM ceramic materials bonded with self-adhesive resin cement. Material and methods: sixty ceramic CAD/CAM discs were obtained, 30 lithium disilicate (IPS Emax) and 30 hybrid resin ceramic (Vita Enamic). The Slices were allocated into six groups (n=10) according to ceramic material and surface treatment; Group (LD-C): IPS Emax treated with 9% hydrofluoric acid(HF), Groups (LD-P1) and (LD-P2): IPS Emax treated with Er,Cr:YSGG laser with parameters 1.5 W and 2.5 W, respectively. Group (RC-C): Vita Enamic treated with 9% hydrofluoric acid (HF), Groups (RC-P1) and (RC-P2): Vita Enamic treated with Er,Cr:YSGG laser with parameters 1.5 W and 2.5 W, respectively. All samples were cemented with self-adhesive resin cement and thermocycled for 5000 cycles. The SBS was measured using a universal testing machine and the mean values (MPa) were analyzed using Two-way (ANOVA) (P ≤ 0.05) and Bonferroni’s post-hoc test. Results: RC-C (16.55) showed highest SBS followed by LD-C (13.79), which revealed no statistically significant difference with RC-P1 (12.33) and RC-P2 (11.2). The lowest SBS values were found with LD-P1 (2.7) and LD-P2 (2.1). SEM analysis revealed Vita Enamic to have the highest surface roughness. Fracture pattern analysis showed adhesive failure with IPS Emax groups and mixed failure with Vita Enamic groups. Conclusion: Er,Cr:YSGG laser irradiation with the parameters used did not increase SBS of IPS Emax and Vita Enamic with composite resin compared to HF acid etching.KeywordsEr,Cr:YSGG laser; Shear bond strength; Surface treatment; Ceramic materials.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma (NTP) on shear bond strength (SBS) between yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZP) and self-adhesive resin cement. For this study, surface energy (SE) was calculated with cube-shaped Y-TZP specimens, and SBS was measured on disc-shaped Y-TZP specimens bonded with G-CEM LinkAce or RelyX U200 resin cylinder. The Y-TZP specimens were classified into four groups according to the surface treatment as follows: Control (no surface treatment), NTP, Sb (Sandblasting), and Sb + NTP. The results showed that the SE was significantly higher in the NTP group than in the Control group (p < 0.05). For the SBS test, in non-thermocycling, the NTP group of both self-adhesive resin cements showed significantly higher SBS than the Control group (p < 0.05). However, regardless of the cement type in thermocycling, there was no significant increase in the SBS between the Control and NTP groups. Comparing the two cements, regardless of thermocycling, the NTP group of G-CEM LinkAce showed significantly higher SBS than that of RelyX U200 (p < 0.05). Our study suggests that NTP increases the SE. Furthermore, NTP increases the initial SBS, which is higher when using G-CEM LinkAce than when using RelyX U200.

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of enamel and dentin surface treatment on the micro-shear bond strength of self-adhesive cement. Seventy-two extracted third molars had their crowns embedded in acrylic resin and worn to obtain a flat enamel or dentin surface. The enamel and dentin specimens were randomly assigned to 8 groups (n=12) that were based on surface treatment (11.5% polyacrylic acid solution or no treatment), substrate condition (wet or dry) and storage period (1 day or 90 days), and treated accordingly. Cylinders (1 × 1 mm) were fabricated using self-adhesive resin cement (RelyX U200) following the manufacturer's instructions. The specimens were stored in distilled water at 37 °C for either 1 day or 90 days and subjected to micro-shear bond strength test (EMIC DL 2000 at 0.5 mm/min). After this, the failure type of the specimens was determined. Data were subjected to statistical analysis (a=0.05). According to the results, the 11.5% polyacrylic acid application decreased the bond strength in both enamel and dentin samples. The moist groups showed higher bond strength than the dry ones, regardless of the substrate and surface treatment. Storage period did not influence bond strength. In conclusion, surface treatment with 11.5% polyacrylic acid and absence of moisture decreased the bond strength of the resin-cement (RelyU200), regardless of the storage period.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of surface treatment and storage time on immediate repair bond durability of methacrylate- and ormocer-based bulk fill composites. In total, 265 discs were divided into 32 groups (n = 8/group) according to: (1) Material: X-tra fil and Admira Fusion X-tra; (2) Surface treatment: oxygen inhibition; matrix; Futurabond M+; Silane/Futurabond M+; Admira Bond; Silane/Admira Bond; ceramic repair system; and Silane/Cimara bond; and (3) Storage time: 24 h and 6 months. Each disc received three micro-cylinders from the same material. Specimens were subjected to micro-shear bond strength testing either at 24 h or 6 months. Data were analyzed using ANOVA/Tukey’s test/Student t-test (p = 0.05). All experimental factors had significant effect on bond strength (p < 0.0001). Drop in bond strength was noticed in both materials after six months (p < 0.05), except for Admira Fusion X-tra treated with silane/cimara adhesive (p = 0.860). Both materials showed insignificant values with Admira bond either at 24 h or 6 months (p = 0.275 and p = 0.060, respectively). For other treatments, X-tra fil showed significantly higher values at 24 h and 6 months (p < 0.05). Ceramic repair system can be used to immediately repair both methacrylate- and ormocer-based composites.
