ABSTRACT Aim To evaluate the effect of fiber post surface treatments on push-out bond strength between fiber post and root dentin. Materials and methods Sixty bovine mandibular teeth (N = 60) were sectioned (16 mm), prepared (12 mm), embedded with acrylic resin and then allocated into six groups (n = 10): Gr1- Silane coupling agent (Sil) + Conventional resin cement AllCem (AlC); Gr2- Sil + Conventional resin cement RelyX ARC (ARC); Gr3- tribochemical silica coating (TBS) + AlC; Gr4– TBS + ARC; Gr5- No treatment (NT) + AlC; Gr6– NT+ ARC. Specimens were sectioned in four slices (2 mm) and submitted to push-out test. Fracture analyses were executed at x200. The values of the push-out bond strength were submitted to two-way ANOVA and Tukey test (á = 0.05). Results Resin cement did not affect the bond strength values (p = 0.9674), fiber post surface treatment affected the push-out bond strength (p = 0.0353), interaction between factors did not affected the values (p = 0.338). Tukey test did not show differences between the groups. Adhesive failure between cement and dentin was predominantly. Conclusion The fiber post surface treatment appears have no influence on bond strength between fiber post and root dentin. Clinical significance The tested fiber posts surface treatment appears do not influence the fiber post bond behavior. How to cite this article Druck CC, Bergoli CD, Pereira GKR, Valandro LF. OBJECTIVE: To compare the bond strength of two dual-cure resin cements to Ni-Cr alloy test specimens (TS), with and without surface treatment. METHODS: RelyX ARC and Panavia Fluoro Cements were tested. Eighty nickel alloy TS were cast, measuring 10mmx7mmx2.5mm, forming a total of 40 pairs. Four groups of TS were obtained.Twenty pairs were treated by airborne abrasion with 50µm aluminum oxide particles and 20did not undergo treatment.The TS were cleaned usingultrasound. The parts were cemented according to manufacturers' instructions. A shear bond strength test was performed until bond failure occurred. RESULTS: Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed there was a statistical difference (p>0.05) between thegroups. Visual analysis of optical microscopy images showed a mixed fracture pattern with adhesive predominance for RelyX ARC, and mixed with cohesive predominance for Panavia F. The sandblasted groups obtained better bonding, with Panavia F attaining higher bond-strength values than RelyX ARC. CONCLUSION: The Ni-Cr alloy/Panavia F on a treated surface behaved better in terms of bonding.

The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the adhesion strength of two new fiber post systems (FiberSite™ Post and Cytec™ Blanco Post) cemented with two different adhesive resin cements (Panavia™ SA and Maxcem™ Elite). Root canals of sixty extracted human mandibular premolars were prepared using ProTaper Universal™ rotary files (Dentsply Sirona Endodontics, York, PA, USA). The root canals were irrigated with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) during instrumentation. After root canal preparation, the canals were irrigated with 2 mL of 17% EDTA (1 min), followed by 2 mL of 5.25% (5 min) NaOCI, and 2 mL saline. The root canals were dried with paper points and divided randomly into two study groups (n = 30) according to the type of post system: Group 1, FiberSite™ Post (MegaDental, Partanna, Italy); and group 2, Cytec™ Blanco Post (Hahnenkratt, Königsbach-Stein, Germany), with one of the two adhesive resin cements: Subgroup A, Panavia™ SA Cement Plus Automix (Kuraray, Osaka, Japan); subgroup B, Maxcem™ Elite (Kerr, Orange, CA, USA). Following thermocycling, the adhesion strength was evaluated using the push-out adhesion (bond) strength test. Fractographic analysis was performed using stereomicroscope. The data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance (p = 0.05). The adhesion strength values of both the posts were significantly higher when cemented with subgroup B (Maxcem™ Elite). The highest adhesion strength value was demonstrated by group 1B (FiberSite™ post cemented with Maxcem™ Elite cement). The type of post did not have a significant impact on the bond strength values for either cement material.
