ABSTRACT1-Phenyl-3-naphthyl-5-((dimethylamino)phenyl)-2-pyrazoline with different diameters of 40 - 190 nm were prepared by the reprecipitation method and polymerized with poly(methyl methacrylate-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) using cationic surfactants for full color electronic paper, which is expected to substitute for the future display. The electronic ink particles of pyrazoline organic nanoparticles polymerized by poly(methylmethacrylate-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) were prepared and monodispersed successfully in aqueous alcohol medium. The size of mono-dispersed electronic ink particles is from 160 to 550 nm. The ink particle size was found to decrease with increasing concentration of the surfactant. The effect of surfactant was significant. The appropriate additions of surfactants result in an increase in electrophoretic mobility. The electrophoretic mobility of the resulting electronic inks was −7.5 to −3.6 × 10−5 cm2/ V·s in the presence of surfactants.

Abstract A simple, specific, and accurate proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopic method is presented for detection and assay of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate dimer as a contaminant of methyl methacrylate monomer. In addition to minimizing exposure of the analyst to the irritant and toxic methacrylic acid esters, the proposed method requires no sample preparation. Quantitations are based on integrals for signals of methylene protons of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate at 4.37 ppm and methyl protons of methyl methacrylate at 3.70 ppm. Analysis of 10 synthetic mixtures of the monomer with 1–11% of dimer yielded a dimer recovery of 100.5 ± 2.05% (mean ± standard deviation). Correspondence (correlation coefficient, r=0.9999) between the amount of dimer added and the amount found was excellent. The proposed method measures as little as 1% of dimer.

Physical crosslinking and chemical crosslinking were used to further improve the mechanical properties and stability of the gel. A temperature/pH dual sensitive and double-crosslinked gel was prepared by the stereo-complex of HEMA-PLLA20 and HEMA-PDLA20 as a physical crosslinking agent, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as a chemical crosslinking agent, and azodiisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator for free radical polymerization. This paper focused on the performance comparison of chemical crosslinked gel, a physical crosslinked gel, and a dual crosslinked gel. The water absorption, temperature, and pH sensitivity of the three hydrogels were studied by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and swelling performance research. We used a thermal analysis system (TGA) and dynamic viscoelastic spectrometer to study thermal properties and mechanical properties of these gels. Lastly, the in vitro drug release behavior of double-crosslinked hydrogel loaded with doxorubicin under different conditions was studied. The results show that the double-crosslinked and temperature/pH dual responsive hydrogels has great mechanical properties and good stability.
