Previous studies of Sherlock Holmes fandom have concentrated on fan letters as being exemplary of the early beginnings of the Great Game: a fantasy played by fans that acts upon the belief that Sherlock Holmes exists. Fans, while fully comprehending that it is indeed a fantasy or a game, perform fan activities such as historical and literary analysis as if Holmes were real. This paper shifts the focus away from letter writing as the central means of the expression of this ironic belief and looks at the example of collecting autographs as a means of celebration of the canon. It places the autograph in its historical context of being the meeting point between the remnants of the Romantic theory of genius, the development of pseudosciences such as the interpretation of handwriting, and the literary, cultural, and commercial landscape in which Holmes appeared.

Background Hypersexuality is one of the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. This symptom can lead to poor quality of life for the person who lives with dementia, as well as for his or her caregiver, who might be exposed to sexual assault. Aim This study aimed to highlight the experience of an older woman living and coping with a spouse who exhibits dementia-related hypersexuality. Method A narrative case-study of a single case was designed, composed of four semi-structured interviews conducted over a 10-month period. The data were analyzed through thematic, structural, and performance analysis. Findings Four phases were revealed, depicting the experience of being a partner and caregiver of a spouse with dementia-related hypersexuality: a) “I need help”: A distress call; b) “It depends how long I agree to go on with it”: Living with the ambiguous reality of dementia-related hypersexual behavior within an ongoing intimate relationship; c) “It’s as if I’m hugging someone who’s no longer alive”: The transition from the previous couplehood identity to a new couplehood identity; and d) “I am just taking care of him as if he is a child”: A compassionate couplehood identity construction. Conclusions Living with a partner with dementia-related hypersexuality is a distressing experience for the caregiver-spouse. Yet, positive memories from a long intimate relationship can lead to the creation of a compassionate identity, which supports the caregiving process, and creates a sense of acceptance and meaning making. This, in turn, enables a positive aging experience. These finding have some practical implications for supporting and intervening in such cases.

Abstract: One of aspects of Islam studied by orientalists is the Qur’an. They have written many books on the Qur’ān. One of themes of Qur’anic studies written by orientalists are about influences of Judeo-Christianity tradition in the Qur’ān. They try to prove the influences of Judeo-Christianity tradition in the Qur’ān. One of orientalists who try to prove the influences of Judeo-Christianity tradition in the Qur’ān is John Wansbrough, a Jewish orientalist. In studying the Qur’ān, Wansbrough uses literary analysis, an analysis based on the text apart from historical context. He does not believe in historical context relates to Qur’anic revelation. Whereas Qur’anic revelation relates to the events occurred in Muḥammad’s life time. By using historical approach, Fazlur Rahman proves that qur’anic revelation relates to the history so-called asbāb al-nuzūl. Rahman insists that the study of the Qur’ān done by Wansbrough does not make sense. Kata-kata kunci: analisis sastera, Yahudi-Kristen, pengaruh, sejarah, Bibel.

Wedding photography is an area of vernacular studies that receives surprisingly little scholarly attention. This thesis explores the material culture of wedding photography, with a specific focus on the analysis of the wedding album in terms of presentation and consumption by families from the 1950s to the 1980s. The main section of this thesis provides an examination of selected wedding album owners. This case study contains a collection of oral histories from seven individuals on their experiences with presenting and displaying their wedding photographs. The analysis provides qualitative research on the production, organization, and consumption of the wedding album as a popular medium for exhibiting wedding photographs. In addition, this thesis offers some social and historical context on the development of the wedding album and wedding photography.

The current historical context is characterised by a significant change in the economic and social fields that have led to the development of the economy of creativity and knowledge. This condition has laid the basis for the rise of a new social class. This radical change in the productive paradigm has started a series of modifications to urban spaces, setting in place a rooted change in the fabric of the city. The objective of this paper is to understand and interpret the nature of the changes under way and to investigate how what occurred in economic and social fields influenced the processes of urban regeneration. Starting from a theoretical background it will examine the concept of creativity applied to economics and social sciences. Secondly, by identifying the urban environment of London as a case study, it will analyze single cases that will show the root of these practices within urban spaces. The purpose of it will be verified by the possibility of building urban transformation strategies that use creativity as the tool of change.

This article discusses the results of archaeological and anthropological research concerning material remains of a prisoner of war camp in Czersk (Pomeranian province, Poland) (Kriegsgefangenenlager Czersk). In the first part, I sketch a broader historical context related to building and functioning of the camp in forests around Czersk between 1914–1919. After that, the role and meaning of  archaeological research on such type of archaeological sites are presented. In the third part, I focus on a very special category of the camp heritage which is called trench art. The last part of this paper is a case study where an assemblage of objects classified as trench art that was found at the camp is described and interpreted. This text aims at highlighting the value of such prisoners and camp’s heritage. Such material culture is a material memory of extraordinary prisoners’ creativity behind barbed wire. It makes one aware of how every piece of trash, rubbish was re-cycled during day-to-day life behind barbed wire.

The  purpose  of  the  research  is  to  analyze  and  improve  the  structure  of  the  composition  and constructive  means  of  costume  design  for  future  mothers  through  the  prism  of  the  historical perspective of its development. In the process of doing the work used modern methods of research: literary analysis, historiography, systematic structural, morphological analysis and classification of artistic and composition elements. On the basis of literary and visual-graphic sources, an analysis of the evolution of constructive-technological means of creating clothes for pregnant women in the European tradition of the 15th-20th centuries is carried out and systematized design solutions for certain historical periods to satisfy the ergonomic, utilitarian, hygienic functions of the respective costume,  the  creation  of  psychological  comfort,  as  well  as  the  provision  of  social,  artistic  and aesthetic  functions. Next was the structuring  of composition and constructive means of creating comfortable clothes for pregnant women. Analysis of composition decisions was carried out on the basis of both historical and modern costumes. It was investigated that the use of the principles of transformation in pregnant clothes increases the versatility of products and extends the life of the work. The scientific novelty of research lies in the fact that for the first time a system analysis of the means of shaping and artistic expressiveness in designing special clothes for pregnant women was carried out based on an analysis of the evolution of the shaping of this type of costume in a historical context. It has been determined, systematized and structured the modern constructive-composite means of the design process of promising collections of clothes for pregnant women. The practical significance of the work lies in the development of scientifically based means of shaping special clothes for pregnant women to create collections of modern women’s suits that represent special clothes for pregnant women with improved functional and aesthetic qualities.

Side scan sonar survey as one of the geophysics methods is still scarcely applied in underwater archaeological research in Indonesia. This paper describes the application of side scan sonar survey in mapping riverbed and identifying underwater archaeological remains in the “Sungai Brantas in the Perspective of Maritime Cultural Landscape” project, as well as interpreting its historical context based on survey results. This paper also explores the development of utilizing side scan sonar in underwater archaeological research in Indonesia, particularly in rivers. Data was acquisitioned by using the side scan sonar Starfish 450H and GNSS Trimble R8s positioning system. The interpretation was drawn by analysing related Dutch old maps and archives to understand the historical context of the survey findings. The result shows clay and silt sediment covering most of the riverbed and a number of objects, possibly shipwrecks, estimated as from the nineteenth century. The survey result has a medium to high accuracy. Thus, this method is able to serve as an efficient instrument for underwater archaeological research, especially in the low-visibility waters.

“Maasai Education in Cultural and Historical Context,” focuses on how ideas about “being Maasai” and “being educated,” beginning in the colonial period and extending into the formation of the postcolonial state, are dynamic. Schoolgirls, mothers, and teachers see education as a powerful antidote to historically produced ethnic otherness, marginalization, and endemic economic insecurity. Schoolgirls, mothers, and teachers explained that as “the world has changed,” so have Maasai attitudes about education. This chapter historicizes and therefore politicizes contemporary Maasai attitudes about education in the case-study communities, within and against still salient ideas in the Kenyan social imaginary about Maasai as people who “hate” education, by showing how Maasai have come to see themselves as people who “love” education for all children, including girls.
