In the cultural heritage field the recording and documentation of small and medium size objects with very detailed Digital Surface Models (DSM) is readily possible by through the use of high resolution and high precision triangulation laser scanners. 3D surface recording of archaeological objects can be easily achieved in museums; however, this type of record can be quite expensive. In many cases photogrammetry can provide a viable alternative for the generation of DSMs. The photogrammetric procedure has some benefits with respect to laser survey. The research described in this paper sets out to verify the reconstruction accuracy of DSMs of some archaeological artifacts obtained by photogrammetric survey. The experimentation has been carried out on some objects preserved in the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology at University College London (UCL). DSMs produced by two photogrammetric software packages are compared with the digital 3D model obtained by a state of the art triangulation color laser scanner. Intercomparison between the generated DSM has allowed an evaluation of metric accuracy of the photogrammetric approach applied to archaeological documentation and of precision performances of the two software packages.

Terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) can provide the measurement of a large number of physical points distributed on the observed surface. A fast earthwork calculating method is proposed based on the redundant number of acquired points, which leads to a very accurate and high resolution reconstruction of the observed surfaces. This paper describes the three main steps of the method, namely the acquisition of the earthwork data based on TLS, the pre-processing of point cloud data, the earthwork calculation and accuracy evaluation based on point cloud data. Furthermore, it illustrates the performance of the proposed method with a validation experiment.

With the rapid development of earth observation, satellite navigation, mobile communication and other technologies, the order of magnitude of the spatial data we acquire and accumulate is increasing, and higher requirements are put forward for the application and storage of spatial data. Under this circumstance, a new form of spatial data organization emerged-the global discrete grid. This form of data management can be used for the efficient storage and application of large-scale global spatial data, which is a digital multi-resolution the geo-reference model that helps to establish a new model of data association and fusion. It is expected to make up for the shortcomings in the organization, processing and application of current spatial data. There are different types of grid system according to the grid division form, including global discrete grids with equal latitude and longitude, global discrete grids with variable latitude and longitude, and global discrete grids based on regular polyhedrons. However, there is no accuracy evaluation index system for remote sensing images expressed on the global discrete grid to solve this problem. This paper is dedicated to finding a suitable way to express remote sensing data on discrete grids, and establishing a suitable accuracy evaluation system for modeling remote sensing data based on hexagonal grids to evaluate modeling accuracy. The results show that this accuracy evaluation method can evaluate and analyze remote sensing data based on hexagonal grids from multiple levels, and the comprehensive similarity coefficient of the images before and after conversion is greater than 98%, which further proves that the availability hexagonal grid-based remote sensing data of remote sensing images. And among the three sampling methods, the image obtained by the nearest interpolation sampling method has the highest correlation with the original image.

Deformation is a comprehensive reflection of the structural state of a concrete dam, and research on prediction models for concrete dam deformation provides the basis for safety monitoring and early warning strategies. This paper focuses on practical problems such as multicollinearity among factors; the subjectivity of factor selection; robustness, externality, generalization, and integrity deficiencies; and the unsoundness of evaluation systems for prediction models. Based on rough set (RS) theory and a long short-term memory (LSTM) network, single-point and multipoint concrete dam deformation prediction models for health monitoring based on RS-LSTM are studied. Moreover, a new prediction model evaluation system is proposed, and the model accuracy, robustness, externality, and generalization are defined as quantitative evaluation indexes. An engineering project shows that the concrete dam deformation prediction models based on RS-LSTM can quantitatively obtain the representative factors that affect dam deformation and the importance of each factor relative to the effect. The accuracy evaluation index (AVI), robustness evaluation index (RVI), externality evaluation index (EVI), and generalization evaluation index (GVI) of the model are superior to the evaluation indexes of existing shallow neural network models and statistical models according to the new evaluation system, which can estimate the comprehensive performance of prediction models. The prediction model for concrete dam deformation based on RS-LSTM optimizes the factors that influence the model, quantitatively determines the importance of each factor, and provides high-performance, synchronous, and dynamic predictions for concrete dam behaviours; therefore, the model has strong engineering practicality.
