This chapter refers to small family businesses in Greece and examines the impact of their marketing strategy during an economic crisis period. The research took place in the broad area of Athens between December 2011 and March 2012. Data were collected to form a database of Greek independent private family companies (n=380) using personal interviews (structured questionnaire) with owners/managers of first- and second-generation family businesses. The chapter shows how small family businesses indicate marketing strategy using Carson's model. Limitations of expertise outline the marketing background, which can be described as “self-assisted.” The research offers a verification of a previous model so that problems that arise from companies not putting into practice any marketing concepts can be examined. The significance of the chapter is that there have not formerly been any reviews made about Carson's model in Greece during the economic crisis period emphasizing family businesses.

The article discusses the construction of complex models consisting of a structural-functional model, information model and semantic data model, which is the basis for the design of soft-ware that implements the method of calculating the dynamic standard. Dynamic specification of linear and non-linear form is intended for financial and economic analysis of the performance of the enterprise. Dynamic standard to some extent reduces the impact on the results of financial and economic analysis of the experience and skills of the analyst conducting this analysis.

Small business owners use a variety of bootstrap financing methods to acquire the needed resources necessary to survive and eventually grow their businesses. One such method is to lease equipment and/or machinery. Leasing is a viable alternative to bank financing and for small businesses, leasing is a flexible strategy to preserve cash. In this study, we analyze the impact of asset specificity and growth opportunities on leasing decisions of a large cohort of startup businesses. To test our hypotheses, we use a unique dataset provided by the Kauffman Foundation. 1 Our longitudinal analyses show that startups with unique/specific assets have a lower propensity to lease whereas startups with high growth opportunities are more likely to lease their assets. We also argue that the owners’ demographic and socioeconomic characteristics are likely to impact their individual risk-taking behavior. Thus, factors such as owners’ experience, education, age, gender, and race are likely to impact the decision to lease assets. Our results show that owners’ characteristics do have a significant impact on these decisions. The findings reveal that female and older entrepreneurs as well as highly educated owners are less likely to lease. Our work advances prior research on the determinants of leasing in large, publicly traded firms and provides additional insights on entrepreneurial bootstrapping.

Based on the results of the analysis of the ratio of the financial statements can be seen from liquidity ratio in 2010 can already be said to be liquid and in 2011 occurred very significant increase in this ratio that makes the company's liquidity to be too high. Judging from the solvency ratio, in 2010 the company could not be said solvable because the value of this ratio is still quite high. However, in 2011 this ratio decreased significantly which shows that the company can already be said to be solvable. From the ratio of the activity, in 2010 and 2011 the ratio of corporate activity can already be said to be good. Despite the decrease from 2010 to 2011 on some of these ratios, but the overall ratio of activity of the company is good enough. Judging from the ratio of profitability, in 2010 and 2011 the profitability of the company can not be said to be good because it is still very low and no significant change from the year 2010 to the year 2011 for this ratio. The overall financial performance of PT Mekar Karya Pratama from year 2010 to year 2011 can be said to be good, although there are some things that must be considered and they should be repaired as liquidity is too high which causes the idle funds and the impact on the profitability is low. This paper examines the abnormal returns in merger withdrawals in Australia, especially distinguishing the market response between private and public targets. We also study the determinants of those abnormal returns, including the method of payment and the impact of financial crisis periods. Using the event study method, we document that in the Australian context, the announced withdrawal of mergers involving private targets creates significantly negative valuation effects in comparison with the valuation effects in withdrawal of mergers involving public targets. We also find that a financial crisis period strongly affects abnormal returns of merger withdrawals. However, the method of payment does not have any impact on the abnormal returns.
