AbstractThe paper develops the metaphorical concept of the “concertina” career to describe ways in which academic staff, across a diversifying workforce, modulate their interactions with institutional career frameworks, which tend to be unilinear and to be characterised by detailed progression criteria and milestones. In doing this, they are guided by Internal career scripts, providing an additional dimension to the dichotomy of boundaried and boundaryless careers found in the literature. Drawing on a longitudinal study between 2017 and 2020, of forty-nine mid-career academic staff across eight UK universities, consideration is given to individuals’ spatial movements, for instance, between academic activities, and professional and personal commitments; and the manipulation of timescales to accelerate or decelerate career progress in relation to opportunities and constraints. The study shows ways in which the spatial parameters of a career are being stretched in order to accommodate new forms of academic work supplementing disciplinary activity, such as online learning, employability initiatives and public engagement, as well as work-life considerations. In addition, individuals are adapting timescales to accommodate professional activities such as health practice or community outreach, as well as personal commitments such as caring responsibilities. Thus, in the concertina career, individuals expand and contract activity, as well as extending and compressing timescales. As a result, it is concluded that institutional career models do not entirely reflect the reality of career-making by individuals, which is likely to involve detours (therefore a spatial dimension) and a disruption of assumed timelines (therefore a temporal dimension).

The current situation of COVID 19 not only involves global health crisis but also economic and social crises. It has brought about a change in the system of education by conducting all academic activities online. Acc. to ILO, a world of universal distance education (as nearly 94% of learners have faced school closures) is created. Online education is a new concept for most Indians, creates room for incivility. Incivility is defined as a lack of manners, courteousness, and respect which deteriorates the decorum leading to disturbance in teaching and learning of the class. This study is focused on incivility in online teaching and learning. A total of 130 college students from around the country were asked to fill an open-ended online questionnaire to know their views on incivility in the online classroom. The overall thematic analysis resulted in the identification of three themes i.e. reported incidents, possible causes, and measures to reduce incivility in the online classrooms. In the time of pandemic where almost all the dissemination of education is done online to minimize the effect of the pandemic on the education system, incivility is a stumbling block. Therefore, it is important to bring incivility in online education in limelight as tackling incivility is the need of the hour.

AimsChanges in the severity of tics in Tourette's syndrome (TS), as seen with variations in the intensity or frequency of tics, can be moderated by a variety of independent factors such as external or internal stimuli. Identifying such moderators has important clinical implications as it can aid clinicians in adjusting interventions. Hence, based on our previous review of tic-severity moderators, we developed a clinical inventory of moderating variables for motor and vocal tics for inclusion in the new version of the Queen Square Proforma for Tourette's Syndrome to aid initial assessments in the National Tourette Syndrome Service's Outpatient Clinic for Adults.MethodA review of tic-severity moderators was previously carried out by the authors to investigate the kinds of moderators and their worsening, improving or neutral effects on tic severity. Based on this a semantic thematic analysis of the identified moderators was carried out and themes were developed based on appropriate and relevant MeSH terms in order to create the categories and items of the clinical inventory.ResultSeventy-three different tic severity moderators were identified, the most common being exercise, sleep, peer victimisation, psychosocial stress, watching TV, academic activities and distraction. Twenty-nine themes emerged from the thematic analysis which were then used to update the clinical inventory of tic severity moderators. The review also highlighted the subjectivity of these moderators’ effects on tic severity as some moderators were tic-worsening in some individuals and tic-improving or neutral in others, which is contrary to the current dichotomous understanding.ConclusionThe updated clinical inventory of tic severity moderators invites researchers and clinicians to be more aware of the existence, variability and subjective effects of these tic severity moderators in individuals with TS, as these have been previously looked in a dichotomous way. By better identifying tic-severity moderators and their worsening, improving or neutral effects on tic severity this clinician rated inventory will have potentially important, direct implications for the management and treatment of tics.

The relevance of research. In modern educational conditions, it is important for applicants to independently regulate academic activities and find solutions to overcome unforeseen negative situations. The purpose of the study is to reveal the correlation between indicators of ways to overcome negative situations and academic self-regulation. Research methods - The experimental research was carried out on the basis of the H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University and the Ukrainian Engineering Pedagogics Academy. The study involved applicants for education in the area 05 Social and Behavioral Sciences of 1, 3 and 5 courses in the number of 244 persons (187 girls and 57 boys). As a diagnostic material we used the questionnaire "Ways to overcome negative situations" and the adaptation questionnaire of academic self-regulation R.M. Ryan and D.R. Connell. Mathematical and statistical methods were applied in data processing. Results. In a pilot study, it was found that the main ways of overcoming negative situations by subjects of educational and professional activities are self-accusations, problem analysis and self-esteem increase. Academic self-regulation is characterized mainly by external and introjective regulation. Conclusions. According to the results of the study of methods to overcome negative situations, it was found that students more often choose coping strategies of self-blame, problem analysis and search for guilty. During their educational and professional activities, students rely on the emotional sphere, which they direct towards themselves or others. At the same time, while analyzing the problem, students try to retire, seek information, find a solution. Academic self-regulation is characterized by external and introjected regulation. All data indicate that subjects of educational and professional activities are capable of self-organizing activities with the help of constructive coping strategies using the development of emotional intelligence for psychological well-being.

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of teaching the discipline "Descriptive geometry" in the conditions of distance learning, it examines the application of information technologies in the educational process in geometric and graphic disciplines. Increasing the speed of information processes, reducing the number of hours for mastering the discipline. the conditions of distance learning set new tasks for teachers and dictate their requirements for teaching graphic disciplines and the use of teaching experience in a new reality; there is a need to introduce and develop new forms of education without losing the quality of education. Geometric-graphic disciplines occupy one of the important places in technical education, the complexity of the study of which lies in the development of a graphical representation of phenomena, objects and processes by methods of constructive geometric modeling. The knowledge and skills acquired by students contribute to the development of spatial, imaginative and rational thinking, which is necessary for future professional activities. Descriptive geometry is a discipline that is not easy to master on your own without a conscious understanding of the logic and sequence of geometric constructions, without deep knowledge of theoretical foundations and constant, repeated implementation of practical tasks. The acquisition of practical skills in mastering the methods of discipline has become more difficult in the current epidemiological situation. In modern conditions of distance learning, the use of the Simplex geometric modeling system made it possible to develop and propose a new concept of geometric-graphic interaction, which significantly reduced the time for completing and checking educational tasks in real time. The proposed technology reveals the deep informational essence of the studied discipline "Descriptive Geometry" and becomes a powerful research tool for students. The integration of traditional teaching methods in the graphic preparation of students with computer and communication facilities increases the possibilities of communication and improves the quality of teaching.

The education community, accustomed to the face-to-face education system, had to switch to the distance education system with the COVID-19 pandemic. It was inevitable for educators who had not experienced distance education to prepare themselves in a short time and to complete the process with the least damage. Of course, there were many negativities during distance education and the whole world gained certain experiences during this time. In this study, the problems experienced by the academic staff using distance education applications, their approaches to distance education, how much they have improved themselves in other possible problems in the future, and what they expect from distance education have been examined. Thematic analysis was used as a research design; articles, theses, books, reports of official institutions and organizations were examined; and the concepts that emerged during distance education applications were divided according to categories by using descriptive and thematic analysis.
