Sarcoidosis is an idiopathic disease, characterized by non-caseating granulomas in multiple organs/tissues. Cutaneous involvement occurs in approximately one-quarter of patients with a wide variety of presenting morphologies. This case report describes a case of photodistributed sarcoidosis, a rare cutaneous variant, with systemic involvement. A 42-year-old man presented with a history of a pruritic, rash with photoexacerbated annular plaques along with arthralgias and bone pain. Compared to previous reports of photodistributed sarcoidosis, our case presented with annular plaques rather than papules, and there was no prior exposure to ionizing radiation. He was treated successfully with prednisone and hydroxychloroquine. It is important to include sarcoidosis in the differential of photodistributed dermatoses.

Social distance and social link are important in the relationships between teachers and pupils. This question deserves to be examined with a sociological eye. The aim of this book chapter is to clarify the meaning of the terms (“social distance” and “social link”) and to analyze the influences of the social distance reconfigurations on the behavior of the first towards the second. Based on interviews with secondary school teachers, this chapter aims to show how do the influences of social distance reconfigurations change or not their oral language practices.

The main intention of this text is to present three inter-connected projections of the current global crisis of the postmodern capitalism: discursive, sociological and cultural/political. Discursive projection is considering the crisis of the postmodern capitalism through the perspective of the discursive paradigmatic restructuring (social link), sociological projection is giving interpretation of the postmodern social economy paradigm (society of knowledge), whilst the cultural/political projection is discussing the postmodern ideological forms of everyday life (cultural capitalism). In the last instance, all three are raising a question: Is there any good alternative?

The elaboration of a new concept of the pathogenesis of a familiar but idiopathic disease is always exciting, one way or another. Sometimes, as in the penicillin story, the scientific brotherhood marvels at how the obvious could have escaped it so long. Alternatively, if the new concept is not instantly palatable to all interested parties, the community may be split into adherents and doubters, with strong views on either side. The heat generated by such fission can be an important catalyst of scientific progress: the doubters are upset sufficiently to inspire them to try to disprove the validity of the proposal, while the believers hasten to prove and extend the new concept. This dual process invariably generates new knowledge.
