Various solid state or ‘meltless’ recycling techniques have recently been developed for light metal scrap in form of chips. Main objective of all approaches is to bypass the need for remelting in order to reduce the overall required energy, and to avoid the material losses that occur during this step. Within this paper, the use of Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) is proposed as a novel solid state recycling/welding technique for sheet metal scrap. Aluminium 5182 alloy scrap, derived from sheet metal, was successfully consolidated into a fully dense billet via SPS. The use of pulsed electric current heating, in temperatures well below the alloy melting point, combined with mechanical pressure, enchased the densification process resulting into a void-less material. The recycled SPS sample was fully densified and microstructural investigation has been performed in order to confirm effective oxide film breakage. The results illustrate the effectiveness of SPS in aluminium scrap consolidation, also in form of sheet scrap, providing additional means in solid state recycling. The involved mechanisms that contribute to oxide film fracture and scrap consolidation in SPS are being discussed. Keywords: Aluminium, recycling, spark plasma sintering (SPS)

Abstract 850.0 ALUMINUM Alloy can be considered the general purpose light metal bearing alloy. Its good thermal conductivity keeps operating temperatures low. It has high ductility. In many applications it has been found to be superior to steel backed bearings. 852.0 ALUMINUM Alloy has higher mechanical properties making it suitable for heavier load and higher temperature applications. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and shear strength. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as heat treating and machining. Filing Code: Al-290. Producer or source: Federated Bronze Products Inc..

Steamed Hoof Powder (SHP), size < 53μ, was observed to have high adsorption capacity for Hg(II) with >95% removal from a solution containing 100 mg/L of Hg(II) with only 0.1% (W/V) concentration of SHP. The SHP has good settling properties and gives clear and odour free effluent. Studies indicate that pH values between 2 and 10 have no effect on the adsorption of Hg(II) on SHP. Light metal ions like Na+, K+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ up to concentrations of 500 mg/L and heavy metals like Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Co2+, Pb2+, Ni2+, Mn2+, Cr3+, Cr6+, Fe2+ and Fe3+ up to concentrations of 100 mg/L do not interfere with the adsorption process. Anions like sulphate, acetate and phosphate up to concentrations of 200 mg/L do not interfere. Chloride interferes in the adsorption process when Hg(II) concentration is above 9.7 mg/L. The adsorption equilibrium was established within two hours. Studies indicate that adsorption occurs on the surface sites of the adsorbent.

Magnetic pulse welding is a high-speed welding technology, which is suitable for welding light metal materials. In the magnetic pulse welding system, the field shaper can increase the service life of the coil and contribute to concentrating the magnetic field in the welding area. Therefore, optimizing the structure of the field shaper can effectively improve the efficiency of the system. This paper analyzed the influence of cross-sectional shape and inner angle of the field shaper on the ability of concentrating magnetic field via COMSOL software. The structural strength of various field shapers was also analyzed in ABAQUS. Simulation results show that the inner edge of the field shaper directly affects the deformation and welding effect of the tube. So, a new shape of field shaper was proposed and the experimental results prove that the new field shaper has better performance than the conventional field shaper.
