Self-adhesive resins (SARs) contain adhesives, which simplify the procedures of resin application, and primers, which provide sufficient bonding ability. In this study, mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBN) were added to a SAR to easily improve the physical properties and remineralization ability. The experimental resins comprised 1%, 3%, and 5% MBN mixed in Ortho Connect Flow (GC Corp, Tokyo, Japan). As the MBN content in the SAR increased, the microhardness increased, and a statistically significant difference was observed between the cases of 1% and 5% MBN addition. Shear bond strength increased for 1% and 3% MBN samples and decreased for 5% MBN. The addition of MBN indicated a statistically significant antibacterial effect on both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. The anti-demineralization experiment showed that the remineralization length increased with the MBN content of the sample. Through the above results, we found that SAR containing MBN has antibacterial and remineralization effects. Thus, by adding MBN to the SAR, we investigated the possibility of orthodontic resin development, wherein the strength is enhanced and the drawbacks of the conventional SAR addressed.

The present study evaluated the influence of the cement film thickness on the push-out bond strength of glass fiber posts in the cervical, medium, and apical thirds of root canal spaces. Thirty roots were randomly divided into three groups, according to the fiber post system’s drills: (G1) #2; (G2) #3; (G3) #4. The posts were cemented using a self-adhesive cement, and a small amount of powdered Rhodamine B was used as a stain. Images of both sides of each slice were obtained before and after the push-out test. To determine the cement thickness, a macro routine was developed using the software KS 400. The data were analyzed statistically using Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn’s test. G2 (14.62±5.15 MPa) showed statistically higher bond strength values than G1 (10.04±5.13 MPa) and G3 (7.68±6.14 MPa). All groups presented higher bond strength values in the apical third. The bur diameter significantly influenced the results of the shear bond strength for the push-out test. The slight increase in the cement thickness allowed an increase in the values of shear bond strength when compared to very thin or very thick cement films.

ABSTRACT Objective This study evaluated the shear bond strength (SBS) of lithium disilicate glass (LDG) ceramic bonded to a zirconia (Y-TZP), using different cementation strategies. Methods LDG ceramic cylinders were cemented to Y-TZP structure according to the following adhesive system (AS)/resin cement (RC) (n = 15): U- self-adhesive dual-cure RC; AMBAR- AS containing phosphate monomers (PM) + dual-cure RC; group SBU: PM+Silane/AS + light-cure RC; group ALLB: PM/AS + dual-cure RC. Specimens were subjected to SBS in a universal testing machine (0.5 mm/min). Data (MPa) were subjected to one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (α = 0,05). Results The groups SBU and ALLB had significantly higher SBS than those provided by the group U, in which the lowest values were observed. For the AMBAR group, intermediate SBS values were found, which did not differ significantly from the values observed in the other groups. Conclusion Regardless of resins cement, the use of adhesives containing phosphate monomers provided superior bond strength than self-adhesive cement.

To overcome the failure of adhesive bridge due to release of the adhesive bond cement between teeth and metal,preparation modification was performed with a pin hole in the teeth cingulum. This study aimed to determine the effectof thread on a pin hole to shear strength adhesion of adhesive bridge. Forty maxillary incisors were prepared at theirpalatinal surfaces 0.3 mm thick, and were divided into four treatments (threaded hole+threaded pin, threaded holes+non-threaded pin, non-threaded holes+threaded pin, non-threaded holes+non-threaded pin). Casted-plates made fromnickel chromium alloy were cemented to the palatal surface of the tooth with adhesive cement (Panavia TMF 2.0), andthen adhesion shear strength tested. The test and evaluation of the residual cement on the surface were performed inLaboratory Metallurgy, Department of Engineering ITB. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA test (p=0.05).Adhesion shear strength of plate with threaded holes+threaded pin has the highest retention. Residual cement onthreaded hole+threaded pin plates similar to threaded hole+non-threaded pin, but more than any other groups. theconclusions were, the adhesion shear strength depends on the design of pin hole. The wider surface of cementremaining on the plates, the greater adhesion shear strength.

SUMMARY Objective This in vitro study evaluated the influence of different cleansing techniques on the bond strength of self-adhesive cement to dentin. Methods and Materials A total of 33 noncarious human molars were sectioned mesiodistally and embedded in chemically cured resin with the buccal or lingual surfaces facing upward. Superficial dentin was exposed and resin disk provisional restorations were cemented to the dentin surfaces with noneugenol provisional cement and were stored in distilled water at 37°C. After seven days, the provisional restorations were removed and 13 specimens were randomly assigned to each of the five groups (n=13), according to the following cleansing treatments: G1—excavator (control); G2—0.12% chlorhexidine digluconate; G3—40% polyacrylic acid; G4—mixture of flour pumice and water; and G5—sandblasting with 50 μm aluminum oxide particles at a pressure of 87 psi. Resin composite disks (Filtek Supreme Plus, 3M ESPE Dental Products, St Paul, MN, USA) 4.7 (±0.1) mm in diameter and 3.0 (±0.5) mm in height were cemented with self-adhesive cement (RelyX Unicem, 3M ESPE), photocured, and stored in distilled water at 37°C for 24 hours. Shear bond strength testing was conducted using a universal test machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min until failure. Results Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Tukey-B rank order test. Sandblasting with aluminum oxide (11.32 ± 1.70 MPa) produced significantly higher shear bond strength values compared with any other treatment groups (p<0.05). No significant differences were found between G1-control (7.74 ± 1.72 MPa), G2-chlorhexidine (6.37 ± 1.47 MPa), and G4-pumice (7.33 ± 2.85 MPa) (p<0.05).
