The article investigates analytical models for calculation of tension capacity of axially-loaded RHS end-plate joints bolted along two and four sides of the tube in order to investigate the phenomena of prying. Design of such joints is impeded by lack of rules in EN 1993-1-8 and it raises the question whether the Eurocode 3 equivalent T-stub in the tension component should contain integrated assumptions from the AISC/CIDECT/CISC design guides. This paper considers the effect of the bolt hole on the length of the plastic hinge and compares different T-stub models with various assumptions. The behaviour and collapse mechanism of joints with non-preloaded and preloaded bolts was tested during an experiment. The statistical analysis of the test results of 47 joints found in the literature in conjunction with 7 tests determined that it was preferable to use a common approach for connections bolted along two and four sides. Additionally, a limitation of a minimum flange thickness is specified. The performed research has disclosed the benefits and shortcomings of the T-stub models and justified recommendations for their improvement.

This paper studies the shear performance of the connection with the external stiffening ring between the square steel tubular column and unequal-depth steel beams. Two specimens of interior column connections were tested under low cyclic loading. The deformation characteristics and failure modes exhibited by the test phenomena can be summarized as: (1) two specimens all exhibited shear deformation in steel tube web of the panel zone and (2) weld fracture in the panel zone and plastic hinge failure at beam end were observed. Besides, load-displacement behaviors and strain distributions have been also discussed. The nonlinear finite element models were developed to verify the test results. Comparative analyses of the bearing capacity, failure mode, and load-paths between the equal-depth and unequal-depth beam models have been carried out.

The CANYVAL-C (CubeSat Astronomy by NASA and Yonsei using a virtual telescope alignment for coronagraph) is a space science demonstration mission that involves taking several images of the solar corona with two CubeSats—1U CubeSat (Timon) and 2U CubeSat (Pumbaa)—in formation flying. In this study, we developed and evaluated structural and thermal designs of the CubeSats Timon and Pumbaa through finite element analyses, considering the nonlinearity effects of the nylon wire of the deployable solar panels installed in Pumbaa. On-orbit thermal analyses were performed with an accurate analytical model for a visible camera on Timon and a micro propulsion system on Pumbaa, which has a narrow operating temperature range. Finally, the analytical models were correlated for enhancing the reliability of the numerical analysis. The test results indicated that the CubeSats are structurally safe with respect to the launch environment and can activate each component under the space thermal environment. The natural frequency of the nylon wire for the deployable solar panels was found to increase significantly as the wire was tightened strongly. The conditions of the thermal vacuum and cycling testing were implemented in the thermal analytical model, which reduced the differences between the analysis and testing.

This study aimed to determine: (1) how was the design of character building by learning mathematics, and (2) whether the character building by learning mathematics could produce better learning outcome of mathematics than conventional mathematics learning. To answer these two questions, I used Research and Development ( R & D ) which consists of a preliminary study to obtain preliminary data on student learning outcomes before being given treatments of character building by learning mathematics. The next phase is the design of the character building by learning mathematics. Further testing and revision in class and repeated until it found the best learning model. From the first problem formulation, qualitative data analysis, such as the design of character building in learning mathematics was produced. The results of the qualitative analysis shows, character building by learning mathematics was quite effectively applied to implant positive character in students. To answer the second question, statistical analysis was used. The population in this study was all students of class VII of MTsN in Buaran of Pekalongan which totaled 220. By random cluster sampling technique two classes (a class VII A and VII B) was chosen. Class VII A was as an experiment class, and class VII B was as a control class. Data were taken by the test method, experimental classroom observation, and documentation. The data was then processed with an average difference test. Results of statistical analysis obtained t = 3.33 > t table = 1.67. This meant that learning achievement of the students in the experimental class, which was implemented character education in mathematics was better than the students who were taught by conventional methods. Based on these results, it could be conclude that the character building in mathematics was better than the conventional method of learning mathematics.

In the present work, a comprehensive statistical analysis was performed to evaluate the potential application of peel of local fruits from Malang, i.e. mangosteen, honey pineapple and red dragon fruits for natural yellow coloring agents. The yellow pigments from those fruit peels were extracted through a simple maceration method using distilled water, acetone and ethanol as the solvents. The CIE color space of the extracts was measured to obtain L*, a* and b* values. The obtained data were further analyzed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) and Duncan Test to determine the most potent natural yellow coloring agent. All the extracts were appeared as mild to strong yellow liquid except for acetone extract for the peel of red dragon fruit extracts. From the CIE color space and PCA analysis, either ethanolic or acetone extracts of mangosteen appears as a strong yellow liquid and they are statistically not different. Interestingly, the MANOVA and Duncan test results are able to distinguish that the ethanolic extract of mangosteens’ peel as the best candidate for natural yellow coloring agents because of its lowest L* and also highest b* variable values.

14 models of plate-reinforced connections are analyzed by finite element software ANSYS. Failure mode, hysteretic behavior, ductility and energy dissipation capacity are comparatively studied. Results show that plastic hinge formed at the end of the reinforced plate, hysteretic cruves are full and the connections have good ductility. With the increase in length and thickness of the reinforced plate, bearing capacity increases while hysteretic behavior and ductility factor decrease. If the reinforced plate is longer than the length that design requires, brittle failure occurs in the panel zone. The recommended length of the reinforced plate is defined as 0.5-0.8 times of beam depth, the thickness of flange-plate is 1.2-1.4 times of flange thickness and the thickness of cover-plate is 0.7-1.2 times of flange thickness.

This paper presents test reliablity of Uster AFIS for impurity test by calculating the Reliable Test Time (hereinafter referred to as RTT) and CV% of test results. The CV% value of test results of impurity-related parameters in card sliver obtained in 8 experiments totally with 313 different plans were calculated. By statistical analysis method, the reliable test time of AFIS for some impurity-related parameters was estimated. It is concluded that the impurity result obtained by 10-time tests with AFIS was inaccurate. The reasons for this are that the sample weight is too small, the impurity is unevenly distributed and the impurity in card sliver may have some loss in the manually-sampling process.
