Purpose – In this work, a reflexive experiential learning process is collected, which relates concepts the strategic management and learning the game of chess in a flipped classroom and blending learning process for the 2017/18 and 2018/19 courses. Research methodology – The method followed has been the initial approach of the learning curves and the time series of the analysis of learning patterns in the game of chess. Also, for the study of the relationship between the game of chess and its analogy with strategic management, we used a questionnaire, and we apply cluster and network analysis. Findings – The main results reveal the existence of different learning patterns (linear, quadratic, random walk), associated with the various skills of the students. Likewise, different learning groups have been identified concerning the times and learning levels by activities. The underlying idea is the motivation that the game of chess exerts on students to foster greater understanding. Research limitations – The limitations are related to the size of the classroom and the different initial levels of chess knowledge, which have been a real challenge to carry out this work. Finally, the combination of activities, between chess and strategic management knowledge is complicated to handle, requiring large doses of planning. These limitations are perhaps challenging to solve, although possible help could be associated with more teachers being involved in the process. Practical implications – The simultaneous learning of chess with the consequent increase of cognitive skills and Strategic Management concepts could intensify the motivation of the student and generate a virtuous circle that drives both areas. Originality/Value – This new experience in Spain contributes to filling a perhaps significant gap in the literature. In parallel, the practice of chess in the classroom has corroborated a level of commitment and motivation of students in the knowledge of the concepts of strategic management. The results achieved could suggest the incorporation of chess practice as a motivating factor in management subjects.

We have created a network that allocates a new computational unit whenever an unusual pattern is presented to the network. This network forms compact representations, yet learns easily and rapidly. The network can be used at any time in the learning process and the learning patterns do not have to be repeated. The units in this network respond to only a local region of the space of input values. The network learns by allocating new units and adjusting the parameters of existing units. If the network performs poorly on a presented pattern, then a new unit is allocated that corrects the response to the presented pattern. If the network performs well on a presented pattern, then the network parameters are updated using standard LMS gradient descent. We have obtained good results with our resource-allocating network (RAN). For predicting the Mackey-Glass chaotic time series, RAN learns much faster than do those using backpropagation networks and uses a comparable number of synapses.

Abstract Background Developing students’ generic capabilities is a major goal of university education as it can help to equip students with life-long learning skills and promote holistic personal development. However, traditional didactic teaching has not been very successful in achieving this aim. Kember and Leung’s Teaching and Learning Model suggests an interactive learning environment has a strong impact on developing students’ generic capabilities. Metacognitive awareness is also known to be related to generic capability development. This study aimed to assess changes on the development of generic capabilities and metacognitive awareness after the introduction of active learning strategy among nursing students. Methods This study adopted a quasi-experimental single group, matched pre- and posttest design. It was conducted in a school of nursing at a university in Hong Kong. Active learning approaches included the flipped classroom (an emphasis on pre-reading) and enhanced lectures (the breaking down of a long lecture into several mini-lectures and supplemented by interactive learning activities) were introduced in a foundational nursing course. The Capabilities Subscale of the Student Engagement Questionnaire and the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory were administered to two hundred students at the start (T0) and at the end of the course (T1). A paired t-test was performed to examine the changes in general capabilities and metacognitive awareness between T0 and T1. Results A total of 139 paired pre- and post-study responses (69.5 %) were received. Significant improvements were observed in the critical thinking (p < 0.001), creative thinking (p = 0.03), problem-solving (p < 0.001) and communication skills (p = 0.04) with the implementation of active learning. Significant changes were also observed in knowledge of cognition (p < 0.001) and regulation of cognition (p < 0.001) in the metacognitive awareness scales. Conclusions Active learning is a novel and effective teaching approach that can be applied in the nursing education field. It has great potential to enhance students’ development of generic capabilities and metacognitive awareness.

The paper considers the questions of substantiation of relevance of educational robotics implementation in the learning process of Ukrainian schools. The current state of development of robotics as an applied field and as an educational trend is analyzed to solve the research problems. The analysis of the global trends in the development of robotics as an applied field has shown that robotics is one of the most intensively developing fields of science and technology. This leads to the conclusion that there is a need to train relevant specialists and to update the curriculum in school and university education according to the daily requirements. Therefore, the issue of robotics implementation into the learning process of secondary and higher education institutions as an obligatory component of training of future specialists in robotics and future robotics teachers is of particular importance. The analysis of the robotics development as an educational trend has shown that educational robotics is one of the most perspective and popular trends in STEM education. In addition, it is determined that learning via robotics provides students with the opportunity to solve real life problems that require knowledge of STEM subjects. Based on previous research, the author also clarifies the concept of educational robotics, substantiates the aim and main tasks of its implementation into the educational process of educational institutions, which, as a consequence, leads to the importance of solving the issue of training future robotics teachers. The paper also presents and analyzes the results of the conducted research among educators and scientists on determining the state of teaching of robotics in Ukrainian schools. Based on the obtained results, we can conclude that there is a need to implement of the educational robotics into the learning process of secondary education institutions as a compulsory component of the school curriculum. In particular, possible ways of implementation of the educational robotics in Ukrainian schools are defined.

This study discusses the accessibility of university education in the four public universities in Yogyakarta; Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI), University of Gajah Mada (UGM),Yogyakarta State University (UNY), and State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga. Upto now, the disability groups have not got an equal access and the opportunity in a higher education. There are only a few students with disabilities that are accepted in Universities in Indonesia, because of physical limitations that would interfere the teaching-learning process in their classrooms. The research findings showed that the education systems in the UGM, Yogyakarta State University, and the ISI have a system of “integration”, while at UIN has led to the inclusion system, that is “accommodative” and has the ability to service for persons with disabilities.

The strategic management of human resources in the public sector constitutes a contemporary challenge for the sustainability of government programs. Strategies related to personnel management reform are recommended by a number of practitioners, researchers, and specialized international organizations, with the aim of governments adopt them to better manage their employees as a means of ensuring positive results. The recommendations propose the use of strategic approaches in human resources management based on the modernization of their policies, inspired by the New Public Management concepts that advocate a more efficient administration based on the practices applied by private companies. However, questions remain about the applicability of these recommendations, as well as how the strategic management of people, a mechanism designed primarily for private companies, will be implemented in the public area. The essay was based on a literature and documentary review and emphasizes the public service context in Mozambique.

Technology is a means of accomplishing a task mainly by using technical processes, methods, or knowledge. The importance of technology in connection with any type of development is widely recognized, especially having considering nowadays’ worldwide Covid-19 context. The passage from standardized to digitalized teaching-learning process hasn’t been easy. Information technology and educational technology are now extensively being used in schools and refer to a wide multitude of teaching-and-learning–related software and hardware used during the lessons. Learning becomes effective when the students are actively engaged, are collaborating with one another, are in charge of their learning process, become critical thinkers and creative problem-solvers. Scientific thinking appears when thinking about the content of science and the set of reasoning processes that permeate the field of science: induction, deduction, experimental design, causal reasoning, concept formation, hypothesis testing, and so on, are combined. Simultaneously, teachers continue their lifelong learning process online, design digital lessons, gamify lessons, obtain real time results, are part of the staffroom at school and also part of a larger, more diverse, virtual staffroom. In conclusion, the goal of using technology inside and outside the classroom is perceived as a way to individualize education and to develop students’ competences and cognitive skills.

Once Dr. Bob Kizlik had said that learning, regardless of how it is defined, is ultimately the responsibility of the learner, not the teacher. Today problem based learning with appropriate use of ICTs has emerged to achieve the objectives of learning in a more effective manner since teaching-learning process has also become learner-centered now. We are moving towards the new techniques of quality teaching by using digital pedagogy, a new way of engaging students with the curriculum. One such instructional strategy of teaching is a flipped class room- a type of blended learning that reverses the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, often online, outside of the classroom. Present paper focuses on the significance of using digital pedagogy & flipped classroom in teaching-learning process, which changes homework activities into the classroom thereby, promotes sustainable learning since this is relevant and responsive to students’ needs. This paper describes the efforts of teachers in building High Order Thinking (HOT) Learners through Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL). Education has always been the focus of various elements. Because the fate of a nation in the future depends heavily on the contribution of education. In the current learning process there are several gaps related to students' thinking assumptions. The majority of teachers understand his role as a disseminator rather than a student center; so the focus of education in schools is more on the factual knowledge. This then affects the student achievement scoring system more based on tests that are tested for low-level cognitive skills only. The existence of the Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL) learning model is expected to be a bridge to build High Order Thinking (HOT) learners who can ultimately make learners able to achieve High Order Thinking (HOT).
