Sustainability and innovation are strongly connected in terms of productivity and finding innovative solutions for the short and the long terms. The purpose of this article is to analyze ICT models for in-novation and sustainable development processes in the energy management sector and to identify possible solutions (Lebanese case). Using the comparative analysis method, the article will illustrate the difference between using ICT models in innovation and sustainability in energy management and the previous models used for energy production and management focusing on the results after im-plementation.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to assess the effectiveness of the Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB) strategy and its role of industrial productivity in China. Design/methodology/approach To identify the causal effect of this strategy on industrial sustainable development, the authors first use the slacks-based measure model to calculate industries’ total-factor productivity (TFP) considered with CO2 emissions as undesirable output on the provincial level. Then, the authors use the PSM-DID method to identify the difference of TFPs between provinces and industries before and after the implementation of SREB strategy. Findings However, the authors find that there is no difference or even a relative decrease in TFPs of industries in target provinces after the implementation of the strategy, which reveals that the SREB strategy does not play a positive role of the industries’ sustainable development in years of 2014 and 2015. Originality/value The value of this result is to identify the short-term impact of SREB strategy and to seek for probable causes and appropriate solutions.

AbstractThe growth of populations of Triatoma infestans (Klug) depends on temperature and blood-intake. Experiments are described which demonstrated the density-dependent relationship between population size, blood intake and population growth at different temperatures. The number of bugs feeding and their mean blood intake was lower at high bug densities than at low ones, both with restrained chickens and with unrestrained mice as hosts. When blood intake was restricted, the development times of all nymphal stages were increased, and female fecundity was decreased. Previous work showed also that reduced blood intake led to an increased tendency for adult flight. It is thought that at high bug density the three factors, increased development times, decreased fecundity and increased flight, operate to restore the population to a stable density without promoting an increase in mortality. The mechanism linking population density to nutritional status seemed to depend on host irritability, which interrupted the bugs' feeding. Bugs which passed a certain threshold meal size would not resume feeding if interrupted, even though their blood intake was well below normal. The difference between the minimal threshold meal and a normal meal is thought to provide the nutritional elasticity within which the development processes are regulated. It is suggested that this mechanism is characteristic of K-strategists, whereas r–strategists such as mosquitoes tend to continue attacking, even if interrupted, until they achieve a normal meal.

The financial situation and incomes of Simbirsk residents of the second half of the 19th — early 20th centuries are considered. The relevance of the study is due to the fact that understanding urban everyday life is impossible without an idea of the income that the citizens had. It is noted that in the period under review, class division is gradually turn to the division of society in the capitalist way, differentiation by income is confirmed, which is reflected in the mentality and administrative management. The difference between the population of Simbirsk and other Volga cities is shown: the share of the nobility among the urban population was twice as high as in neighboring cities, and the share of the peasantry was half that in Samara and four times less than in Saratov. A review of statistical information on the income of various classes and categories of employment is carried out. Particular attention is paid to the development of entrepreneurship and merchants and income in this area. It is noted that in Simbirsk, the development of entrepreneurship was slower than the average Russian values. The results of a comparative analysis of the standard of living and material situation of citizens living in Simbirsk with the indicators of other cities are presented. It is stated that for the sustainable development of capitalist relations, the introduction of financial organizations and entrepreneurship from the outside was necessary in Simbirsk.

The target of this thesis was the investigation of the role of the Greek intellectuals, who having adopted the man ideas of the ecological (or green) theory, critisized the Greek post - war model of development. Regarding the methodology we used the approach of discourse analysis of the texts that had been selected from a wide bibliography as well as the comparative analysis approach of the ideas which rise up in this work. In addition to this the biographical method was used.As a conclusion greek intellectuals built up a public discussion of high quality, through which they presented a strong criticism on the Greek development model and they supported as an alternative the sustainable development model, for which they suggested the implementation of certain environmental policies. At last, they suceeded in influencing the opinion makers, the wider public opinion and the civil society whose pressure on the Greek state resulted in the adoption of sustainable policies

Nanotechnology is considered as a tool for solving problems and providing comfort in the livelihood of human beings, also possess challenges and treats if not used carefully. nanotechnology if used properly can support to realize the 17 Sustainable Development Goals(SDG) to be realized by 2030. Nanotechnology, being multidisciplinary frontier technologyuseful for innovative solutions in primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary industry sectorshas shown slow progress due to its potential risks due to predicted nanotoxicity. To counterthis but to use nanotechnology solutions in societal progress, green and eco-friendlynanotechnology solutions play a major role in realizing sustainable development goals andeliminates the threat of the technification of development processes. This paper discusses theconcept, current research outcome, and the industrial prospects of achieving global SDG andmuch more using green and eco-friendly nanotechnology in 21st century.

The role of local and central public administrations in promoting sustainable development and building up a better future for society is essential. In order to fulfill this mission, employees in public administration sector must engage in long life learning processes, for the purpose of developing skills such as: anticipation, interdisciplinarity, diversity of perspectives, working with incomplete or complex information, participation in sustainable development processes, cooperation, individual decision-making capacities, empathy, solidarity, and self-motivation. The Education for Sustainable Development as a component of lifelong learning is, in this light, of utmost importance. In this spirit, this paper investigates what is the Romanian public sector employees’ perception of long life learning as an essential premise of Education for Sustainable Development, by analysing on the one hand the degree of digital maturity of public institutions in Romania, and on the other hand the interest of employees in such institutions to engage in Education for Sustainable Development function of the following disjunct behavioural/emotional states: Disappointment, Conflicts, Satisfaction/Contentment, Doubt, Exhaustion, Attachment.

Abstract With five years gone since the adoption of the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development, the global community is moving far too slowly toward achieving its 2030 objectives for older persons. Achieving proper rights and wellbeing for older persons requires strategic and concerted action. The WHO Decade of Healthy Ageing initiative is one useful step toward defining the diverse physical, psychological, social and healthcare needs of older persons. But government leadership remains weak, and the nonprofit sector plays the key role spearheading advocacy efforts toward the SDG motto of “leave no one behind.” The urgent needs of older persons – whether fighting ageism, upholding the rights of people living with dementia, or promoting lifelong learning and contributions to society - can best be met by societies that “reframe aging” and craft creative and innovative solutions. This presentation showcases NGOs that are leading the way in cultivating such transformative solutions.
