Two species of axiid shrimp are reported from sublittoral to upper bathyal waters around the Ogasawara Islands, Japan. The first, Bouvieraxius keiensis Sakai, 1992, is recorded from Japanese waters for the first time, although it is known widely from the southwestern Pacific to western Indian Ocean. Taxonomic problems of this taxon are pointed out. The second, Manaxius aurantiaca n. sp., is described based on a single female specimen from the Kaikata Seamount (at a depth of 299–335 m). It has rounded pleura of the pleomeres 2–5, and is notable in the lack of spines on the upper margin of the cheliped palms. In this regard, the new species closely resembles M. iro Poore, 2020. Differentiating characters between M. aurantiaca n. sp. and M. iro are discussed.

Molecular phylogenetic analyses, morphological observations, and nomenclatural studies were carried out to investigate the taxonomic status of Portulaca boninensis, endemic species from the Bonin (Ogasawara) Islands (Japan). The results addressed controversy between the widely naturalized P. boninensis and P. pilosa, indicating that they are phylogenetically and morphologically distinct. Furthermore, P. boninensis was showed to be conspecific to P. psammotropha which is until now recorded in southern China, Taiwan, and the northern Philippines, but not in the Ryukyus. The name of P. psammotropha was lectotypified on a specimen preserved at K. Based on phylogeography, P. psammotropha likely migrated to the Oceanic Bonin Islands oversea by sea-current dispersal or by exo- and/or end ozoochory through migratory birds without passing through Ryukyus.

Abstract New taxonomic and distributional data are provided for three eastern Asian species of Calamagrostis (Poaceae, Agrostidinae) in Vietnam: C. abnormis (Hook. f.) Shukla, C. extremiorientalis (Tzvel.) Prob. and C. tripilifera Hook. f. The new national record of C. extremiorientalis is reported here for Vietnam, where it was previously misidentified as C. elatior (Griseb.) A. Camus or Deyeuxia petelotii Hitchc. (= C. abnormis). The presence of C. tripilifera and C. abnormis in Vietnam is confirmed. Additional new provincial records of C. extremiorientalis from Japan’s Bonin Islands (also known as the Ogasawara Islands) and C. tripilifera from Daba Mountains in the northern Chongqing Municipality (Central China) are reported here. A key for identification of Calamagrostis species in Vietnam, nomenclatural data and information about geographical, altitudinal and habitat distributions are provided. Maps showing their complete distribution in eastern Asia are presented.
