The purpose of the study was to ascertain the motivational techniques employed by teachers in secondary schools for teaching and learning of account in Awka education zone of Anambra State. It was a descriptive research guided by two research questions and two null hypotheses. The public and private secondary schools in the area were studied. All the 99 teachers of account in the area formed the population. There was no sampling. A researcher-developed questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. Four experts, all in Nnamdi Azikiwe University validated the instrument. The reliability of the study was established through pilot test in Onitsha education zone of Anambra State. The reliability coefficient of section 1 is 0.87 and that of section2 is 0.84 respectively. The direct approach was employed in the data collection. Out of the 99 copies of the instrument distributed, 96 copies were retrieved and correctly filled. They were subjected to data analysis. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using t-test. Findings of the study indicated that teachers in secondary school employed both positive negative reinforcement techniques for teaching and learning of account. Based on this, it was recommended that teachers should also motivate their students through appreciation when they perform well (for instance, a teacher can say, ‘high five’ to a wellbehaved student)

AbstractThe study investigated the availability and utilization of ICT resources in the teaching of Computer Education among Secondary School Teachers in Anambra State. Two research questions guided the study. The population consisted of 450 computer teachers teaching computer education in the schools. From the population, 300 computer teachers were sampled and used for the study. The instrument for data collection was a self-developed 40 – item questionnaire. It was validated by experts and the reliability co-efficient stood at 0.79. The data collected were analysed using frequencies and percentages. The findings revealed that many of the ICT resources needed for the teaching of computer education are not available. It was also revealed that majority of the resources needed for the teaching of computer education are not being used by the teachers. In view of the findings, recommendations were made.

The purpose of this study was to investigate principals’ infrastructural resources managerial practices for the implementation of entrepreneurship studies in public and private secondary school in Anambra State. One research question and one null hypothesis guided the study. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study which was conducted in public and private secondary school in Anambra State. The population for this study is 16,727 respondents while the sample size for this study is 1,332 respondents drawn from public and private secondary schools in Anambra state using simple random sampling technique balloting with replacement. A researcher-developed instrument was the instrument for data collection. The validity and reliability of the instrument were determined. The Cronbach reliability co-efficient of 0.82 was obtained for the instrument. The researcher assisted by six research assistants who are teachers in the state administered the instrument. Mean scores were used to answer the research question while t- test was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. Findings indicated that principals and teachers in public and private secondary schools do not differ significantly in their mean ratings on infrastructural resources managerial practices for the implementation of entrepreneurship studies in Anambra State

The purpose of this study is to analyse the environmental supportive administrative services provided by principals for effective classroom management in public and private secondary schools in Anambra State. One research question and one null hypothesis guided the study. It was a descriptive study conducted in Anambra state covering the six education zones in the state. A total of 15,990 respondents constituted the population for the study. A sample of 852 teachers was used. The instrument for data collection is a structured questionnaire developed by the researchers. The questionnaire was duly validated by experts who are lecturers. The reliability of the instrument was also established. Cronbach alpha statistic was used to determine reliability which gave the reliability coefficient of 0.81. The instrument was administered on the respondents directly by the researchers who assisted by six research assistants. Out of 852 copies of the questionnaire distributed, 850 copies were correctly filled, retrieved and subjected to statistical analysis. The data were analyzed using mean ratings to answer the research question and t- test to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. Findings indicated that, in public secondary schools, adequate workshops are not provided as part of environmental supportive administrative services for effective classroom management. Accordingly, it was among others recommended that government should organize workshops for secondary schools on environmental supportive administrative services.

The purpose of this study was to ascertain principals’ learning resources managerial practices for the implementation of entrepreneurship studies in public and private secondary school in Anambra State. One research question and one hypothesis guided the study. This study was conducted in public and private secondary school in Anambra State. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. The population for this study is 16,727 respondents made up of 481 principals and 9,697 teachers from the 481 private secondary schools and 256 principals and 6,293 teachers from the 256 public secondary schools in Anambra state. The sample size for this study is 1,332 respondents drawn from public and private secondary schools in Anambra state. The multi-stage sampling technique was utilized to arrive at the sample size. The first stage involved randomly drawing three education zones out of the six education zones in Anambra state. Accordingly, Aguata, Awka, and Nnewi zones were drawn using simple random sampling technique balloting with replacement. The second stage involved the use of proportionate stratified sampling technique to draw 74 secondary schools from the three education zones, consisting of 26 public and 48 private secondary schools. Each zone was regarded as a stratum. From each stratum, 10% of principals and teachers were sampled from the public and private secondary schools in the stratum. Researcher-developed instrument was the instrument for data collection. The validity of the instrument was determined using three lecturers. The reliability of the questionnaire was determined using respondents from Enugu State

The study investigated organizational culture as correlate of teachers’ job performance and attitude to work in secondary schools in Anambra State, Nigeria. Five research questions guided the study and six null hypotheses were tested. The study adopted correlational survey research design. The population of the study comprised all the 6396 teachers in public secondary schools in the state. Out of the population, a sample size of 1279 teachers was drawn through proportionate stratified random sampling techniques. Data was collected using three different questionnaires developed by the researchers. The questionnaires include school organizational culture questionnaire (SOCQ), Teachers’ job performance questionnaire (TJPQ) and Teachers’ attitude to work questionnaire (TAWQ). The instruments were validated by three experts from Faculty of Education Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. Cronbach Alpha method was used to determine the reliability of the instruments which yielded a reliability coefficient of .959, .957 and 0.701 respectively. The reliability indices were considered high enough and thus the instruments were deemed reliable. Data collection was done by the researchers with the help of ten research assistants. Aggregate score was used to answer research questions 1 to 3 while Pearson r was used to answer research questions 4 and 5 and critical probability table of Pearson r was used to take decision on the six null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed among others that: teachers rated their school organizational culture to be good; teachers’ job performance is good and teachers have positive attitude to their work. Also, it was found that there is no significant relationship between school organization culture and teachers’ job performance; and no significant relationship between school organizational culture and teachers’ attitude to work. Based on the findings it was recommended that: School management and management of Anambra State post primary school service Commission should ensure improvement in secondary school culture in order that all the teachers would rate their school culture to be good without some rating it to be poor. It was also recommended that in- service training be organized for secondary school teachers through seminars, workshops and advance learning in order to ensure that all of the teachers have good job performance and positive attitude to work. The study investigated the influence of group counselling programmes on the vocational choice of secondary school students in Jalingo Education Zone, Taraba state, Nigeria. The design of the study was descriptive survey. The population consist of 3,485 Students from 41   secondary schools in Jalingo education zone. The sample size of the study was 480 respondents from 12 public secondary schools in Jalingo education zone. The researcher’s self-developed questionnaire formed the instruments for data collection, validated by three experts from the department of educational foundations in Taraba State University.  A Cronbach Alpha reliability of co-efficient method was employed to ensure the reliability of the instrument at 0.768. Three research questions and three null hypotheses were used to guide the study. Descriptive statistic of mean score was used to answer the research questions. Chi square (Χ2) inferential statistics was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. A checklist of 53 different vocations and 21-items questionnaire in four Likert point scale with demographic variables of the respondents was used for data collection.   The study recommends that government should give group counselling priority, train more professional counsellors; counsellors and principals should give students adequate attention and should create more awareness and provide accurate information to students on group counselling to facilitate their vocational choice irrespective of their age and gender.

This study sought to determine teachers level of awareness and usage of non-violent strategies/interventions for the maintenance of discipline in secondary schools in Anambra State, Nigeria. Corporal punishment has become an unwritten sine qua non for the maintenance of school discipline - often the first thought that comes to the minds of teachers in treating acts of indiscipline and deviance. From the Nnewi Education Zone, comprising four local government areas (LGAs), 200 teachers were selected for descriptive survey out of 996 teachers. Stratified random sampling was used such that the schools were stratified into co-educational and single-sex schools, and from each randomly selected school, 10 teachers were selected. Two research questions and four null hypotheses guided this study, and questionnaire was used to collect data. The mean was used to answer the research questions and t-test for the hypothesis at the 0.05 level of significance. The study recommended in-service training for teachers in educational psychology, particularly behaviour modification methods, parental input and interest in school discipline as well as the cessation of corporal punishment among others.

<p>This study investigated emotional intelligence and self-efficacy as predictors of psychological adjustment among secondary school adolescents in Awka Education Zone, Anambra State. Three research questions guided the study and three null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study was 4,421 senior secondary two (SS2) students from 61 secondary schools in Awka Education Zone. The Sample size of the study comprises 485 SS2 obtained using simple random sampling technique. Three sets of questionnaire titled “Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (EIQ), “Self Efficacy Questionnaire (SEQ) and “Psychological Adjustment Questionnaire (PAQ)” were used for data collection. The data obtained were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The results of the study showed among others that emotional intelligence and self efficacy of students significantly predict their psychological adjustment. It was also revealed that there were positive relationship existing between adolescents’ emotional intelligence, self efficacy and their psychological adjustment. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others, that parents and teachers should devote more time and put best efforts to empower their children and students to build good self-efficacy for promoting their psychological adjustment.</p><p> </p><p><strong> Article visualizations:</strong></p><p><img src="/-counters-/edu_01/0791/a.php" alt="Hit counter" /></p>

The main purpose of the study was to determine the principals’ application of students’ satisfaction and leadership principles of total quality management for secondary school improvement in Anambra State. Two research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The descriptive research design was adopted for the study. The study was carried out in Anambra State. The population of the study comprised 6664 principals and teachers (258 principals and 6406 teachers) from the 258 public secondary schools in the six education zones of the State. The sample of this study was 1999 respondents made up of 77 principals and 1922 teachers in secondary schools in Anambra State. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data. The instrument was validated by three experts in the Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The questionnaire reliability was ascertained through a pilot test. The data collected were analyzed with Cronbach Alpha and coefficient values of 0.75 and 0.77 for the two clusters with an overall reliability co-efficient value of 0.76 for the instrument. The data collected from the respondents were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as arithmetic mean and standard deviation and inferential statistics specifically the t-test. Findings revealed that principals applied students’ satisfaction and leadership principles to a moderate extent.

The area of this study is Anambra state and the descriptive survey research design was used. There are six education zones namely Aguata, Awka, Nnewi, Ogidi, Onitsha, and Otuocha education zones. The population for this study comprised 15,990 respondents made up of 6,293 teachers in the 256 public secondary schools and 9,697 teachers in the 481 registered private secondary schools in Anambra state. The sample size for this study is 852 teachers. The instrument for data collection is a structured questionnaire developed by the researchers. The questionnaire was subjected to face validation using three experts who are lecturers. The reliability of the instrument was established using 100 teachers (50 in private secondary schools and 50 in public secondary schools) in 20 secondary schools in Enugu state. Cronbach alpha method was used to determine reliability of the items because the instrument is homogeneously structured. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was 0.74. The instrument was administered on the respondents directly by the researchers with the help of eight research assistants who are teachers in the various schools sampled. All the 852 copies of the questionnaire were correctly filled and retrieved. They were collated and subjected to statistical analysis. Data collected were analyzed using mean ratings to answer the research questions and t- test to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.
