The major failure mechanism of typical spherical plain bearings with self-lubrication is the wear of the woven fabric liner, which is an orthotropic composite of different elastic properties in different directions. The elastic properties of the liner are required for studying the tribological properties of the spherical plain bearings. This paper aims to develop an elastic property analysis model suitable for three commonly used fabric liners through a theoretical analysis of the elastic properties in order to obtain the parameter expression of the compliance matrix. The influence of the elastic properties on the wear depth of the spherical plain bearings is further investigated. Suggestions are made for the optimal design of the spherical plain bearings based on wear reduction.

Spherical plain bearing is a sliding bearing have a spherical contact surface,it can bear larger load and automatically adjusted to the self-alignin. TiAl-based composite material is a material that be used to lightweight spherical plain bearing. The Simulation used the finite element software Ansys for the bearing’s static analysis.The material of outer ring using normal bearing steel, one group used the TiAl-based composite materials as the material of the inner ring, Another group the inner ring material is bearing steel 9Cr18. The law of the stress and strain produced by the two groups is consistent,the deformation of the composite materials is bigger under the same load, its elasticity modulus and density is smaller compared to the ordinary bearing steel,the composite material has the advantages of high specific strength especially in the occasions have strict requirements of the bearing weight.

To meet the demand of wear-life calculation of spherical plain bearing (SPB), the wear-life models for angular contact spherical plain bearing (ACSPB) under different types of load were created based on the joint wear calculation method (JWCM). By integrating the friction wear laws of materials, specific configuration & mating characteristics of the SPB, and function requirement, the new models were more theoretical and had a good applicability and pertinence compared to the empirical models used at present.

The thermal error model of the 5-axis grinding machine tool was acquired by the homogeneous coordinate transformation, including 17 thermal error components. The thermal volumetric error real time compensation model was built by using the multiple regression analysis. The thermal error compensation control system and the temperature sensing system were developed and used as real-time compensation for the 5-axis grinding machine tool.
