The Polyclad fauna of the northwest Tunisian coasts is still unexplored. This is the first investigation of Polyclad flatworms collected by scuba diving in Tunisian waters. Three species belonging to three different families and three different genera are reported and re-described. Echinoplana celerrima (Haswell, 1907) was found to feed on the ascidian Ciona intestinalis (Linnaeus, 1767) at 20 m of depth and Thysanozoon brocchii (Risso, 1818) was observed to eat on sponges Dysidea tupha (Martens, 1824) at 16 m of depth. Prosthiostomum siphunculus (Delle Chiaje) was found creeping on stones at 29 m of depth. Some anatomical data of living specimen of P. siphunculus and fixed specimens of T. brocchii were provided for the first time.

All 41 species of Dolichopodidae in 22 genera (excluding one species each in the subfamilies Microphorinae and Parathalassinae) known to occur on the Maltese Islands are reviewed, with 31 of these being recorded for the first time. Habitat preferences and flight periods of the species recorded are tabulated and discussed.

Two populations of Brachythemis impartita (Karsch, 1890) are here reported in peninsular Italy. The species was found for the first time in 2015 in Calabria in the area of the Angitola artificial lake (Maierato and Monterosso Calabro municipalities) not far from the Tyrrhenian coast. In 2016 the species was also observed in southern Apulia, along the banks of two artificial lagoons in the municipality of Ugento. Information are provided that confirm the habitat preferences of the species and a northward expansion.

Abstract The Stomatopoda of Korea have, in general, been poorly studied, with eight species recorded to date. A recent study of stomatopods collected by SCUBA diving and commercial fishing trawlers from Korean waters, however, resulted in the discovery of first records of six species from the study area. Among them, four belong to the superfamily Squilloidea Latreille, 1802 [Levisquilla inermis (Manning, 1965), Levisquilla jurichi (Makarov, 1979), Anchisquilla fasciata (De Haan, 1844), and Cloridopsis scorpio (Latreille, 1828)], and two belong to the Lysiosquilloidea Giesbrecht, 1910, one each in Tetrasquillidae Manning & Camp, 1993 [Acaenosquilla latifrons (De Haan, 1844)] and Nannosquillidae Manning, 1980 [Acanthosquilla multifasciata (Wood-Mason, 1895)]. Thus, fourteen species of Stomatopoda are now known from Korea. The superfamily Lysiosquilloidea is reported for the first time from Korean waters. A key to the species of Korean mantis shrimps is provided.

In this study, morphological and anatomical data (including fruit micromorphological characters) of the genus Fuernrohria were studied and compared with the related genera Grammosciadium, Caropodium and Vinogradovia. The morphological description of Fuernrohria setifolia, which is the only known species in the genus, is expanded. Photos of inflorescences, infructescences and leaves of the species taken from the wild are provided. Leaf segment and mericarps are illustrated, and also the distribution area of the genus is mapped. Anatomical features of root, stem, leaf sheath, leaf segment and fruit are presented with photographs of cross sections for each of them. Vegetative anatomical characteristics of the species and micromorphological description of fruit are given and exhibited for the first time in the present study. The results show that two important diagnostic characters for Fuernrohria are determined for the first time as “shape and size of commissural vittae in mericarps” and “number of vascular bundles in leaf cross section”.

All larval instars of the tiger beetle species Cosmodela aurulenta aurulenta (Fabricius, 1801) which is the type species of the genus Cosmodela Rivalier, 1961 are described and illustrated here for the first time, based on material from Bali Island (Indonesia). A brief review of habitat preferences and ecology for adults and larvae of Cosmodela aurulenta are provided. Differences between C. aurulenta and C. batesi (Fleutiaux, 1893) and allied Palaearctic genera of the subtribe Cicindelina are discussed. The preliminary key of known larvae of relevant genera and subgenera of the Oriental Region is given.

Recent progresses of knowledge on Riccia diversity in Cape Verde islands are briefly surveyed. The occurrence of two remarkable Riccia species in this archipelago is examined, and their overall distribution is presented.                Riccia atropurpurea Sim and R. congoana Steph. are noteworthy liverwort species, here reported for the first time for Cape Verde islands, from specimens collected in Fogo island. Main diagnosing characters and those of related taxa, habitat preferences, illustrations, scanning electron micrographs and updated ranges of the species are presented.

Abstract Stipa glareosa P. A. Smirn. (sect. Smirnovia Tzvel.) is reported for the first time from the Republic of Buryatia (Russia). Its stations are located at the northern limit of its general distribution range. The taxonomy, distribution and habitat preferences of the species are given, along with its population size at each new locality.

The lichen genus Lepraria in Poland, comprising 17 species, is reviewed: for each taxon, remarks on the chemistry, distribution and habitat preferences are provided. Distribution maps are also presented, together with a key for determination of the Polish species. Lepraria diffusa var. chrysodetoides is reduced to a synonym of L. diffusa s. str., a new chemotype with a new substance is reported for L. neglecta, and rangiformic acid is reported for the first time for chemotype III of L. caesioalba. Lepraria borealis is reported for the first time from Africa (Canary Islands) and L. nigrocincta from Nepal.

Combining morphological and molecular data in an integrative approach, three new mayfly species of Epeorus (Caucasiron) are described. These include Epeorus (Caucasiron) alborzicus Hrivniak & Sroka, sp. nov. and Epeorus (Caucasiron) shargi Hrivniak & Sroka, sp. nov. from northern Iran, and Epeorus (Caucasiron) zagrosicus Hrivniak & Sroka, sp. nov. from central Iran. They are unambiguously delimited using both distance-based and likelihood-based approaches in the analyses of barcode COI sequences. Each new species is compared with other species of the subgenus and morphological diagnostic characters are provided. Based on extensive sampling of streams throughout the country, the distribution and habitat preferences of all Caucasiron species in Iran are assessed. Altogether, there are now six species recorded, among them also E. (C.) nigripilosus Sinitshenkova, 1976 is reported for the first time in Iran. Five species are distributed in the Alborz Mts. in northern Iran, one species was found in the Zagros Mts. in central Iran.

The current knowledge of pseudoscorpions in Estonia is summarized, based on specimens preserved in various Estonian collections and new material collected from 1993 to 2015. Altogether 474 studied specimens belonged to 14 species, including nine species recorded from Estonia for the first time. Supplemented by Apocheiridium rossicum, listed by literature data only, the number of known Estonian pseudoscorpions is now set at 15. The findings of Mesochelifer ressli are the northernmost known for the species. Some ecological and phenological observations were made on the most common species, along with notes on the habitat preferences of other species and the use of different trapping methods. The composition of the known Estonian fauna is compared with the published records from the neighbouring countries, revealing a highest similarity to the Finnish fauna.The possible occurrence of other species in Estonia and the latitudinal species diversity gradient in the Eastern Baltic region are shortly discussed.
