Thirty-nine species of sawfly (Symphyta) are recorded for the first time in Bulgaria. Most of these were collected during early spring of 2018, in the south-east of the country (Burgas and Varna Provinces). Empriaaridicola Macek & Prous, sp. nov. is described as new to science from specimens collected in several central, east and south European countries. Lectotypes are designated for Poecilosomaparvula Konow, 1892, Empriapravei Dovnar-Zapolskij, 1925 and E.pseudoklugi Dovnar-Zapolskij, 1929. Empriapravei and Sciapteryxbyzantina Benson, 1968 are at present only known in Europe from the coastal zone of the Black Sea. The new Bulgarian records of Hoplocampacantoti Chevin, 1986 and Neomessasteusloffi (Konow, 1892) represent large extensions in their recorded ranges, previously comprising respectively only northern France, and north-eastern Germany. Possible host plant associations are noted for several species, based on observations of adults.

Twelve species in eight genera of Japanese Scathophagidae are reviewed. Of them, three species, namely Acerocnema incisa sp. nov., Gimnomera torikurai sp. nov., and Megaphthalmoides vittatus sp. nov., are described as new to science. The first two species were swept from communities of Corydalis flowers blooming in early spring. Six species in six genera are recorded from Japan for the first time: Chaetosa punctipes (Meigen), Cleigastra tibiella (Zetterstedt), Megaphthalma pallida (Fallén), Megaphthalmoides unilineatus (Zetterstedt), Microprosopa haemorrhoidalis (Meigen), and Spaziphora tomkovichi Ozerov. The genera Gimnomera, Chaetosa and Spaziphora are new records, and now a total of 13 genera are known to occur in Japan. A key to the Japanese genera is also provided, as well as keys to species of of Acerocnema and Megaphthalmoides.

Euastrum lacustre is reported for Russia for the first time. This alcaliphilic species was found in the periphyton and plankton of three lakes in the Kursk Region (European Russia). A description of morphology, including the relief of cell wall, and habitats where this taxon is found are represented. LM and SEM microphotographs are provided. Morphological differences of E. lacustre from similar species are discussed. New species for region, namely Closterium aciculare, Cosmarium formosulum, C. granatum, C. pseudoinsigne, C. reniforme and Staurastrum pingue, are found in the samples together with E. lacustre.

The oribatid mite subgenus Scheloribates (Topobates) Grandjean, 1958, is recorded from the Neotropical region for the first time. A new species of this subgenus is described from the leaf litter collected in Cayo Agua Island, Panama. Scheloribates (Topobates) panamaensis sp. nov. differs from its related species by the very large body size and presence of a strong ventrodistal process on the leg femora II–IV.
