Phosphole-fused π-conjugated acenes have been attracting interest because of the attractive features of the phosphole moiety, such as fluorescence and chemically modifiable properties. Herein, 6-phenyl-6H-benzo[f]naphtho[2,3-b]phosphoindole was prepared by reacting dichlorophenylphosphine with a dilithium intermediate derived from 3,3′-dibromo-2,2′-binaphthyl. Various derivatives, such as a phospholium salt and a borane–phosphole complex with functional groups on the phosphorus atom were synthesized using the obtained phosphole as a common starting material. Single-crystal X-ray analysis of the parent benzo[f]naphtho[2,3-b]phosphoindole revealed that the pentacyclic ring is almost planar. Fluorescence spectroscopy data showed that the phosphole derivatives, such as phosphine oxide and the phospholium salt and borane complex exhibited photoluminescence in chloroform.

Abstract The two enantiopure chiral organic ligands 2-[(S)-4-isopropyl-2-oxazolyl]quinoline (L1) and 2-[(S)-4-benzyl-2-oxazolyl]quinoline (L2) react with different silver salts to give rise to three new silver complexes [Ag(L1)2](SbF6) (1), [Ag(L1)(CH3CN)](ClO4) (2), and [Ag(L2)(NO3)] (3), which have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, elemental and thermogravimetric analyses. Complexes 1–3 all display discrete mononuclear structures. The nonlinear optical properties of 1–3 were investigated.

AbstractThe tridentate N-donor ligand 2,6-di(2-oxazolyl)pyridine (L) reacts with AgClO4 and AgPF6 to yield two new complexes, {[Ag5(L)5](ClO4)5}n (1) and {[Ag5(L)5](PF6)5}n (2), which have been characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffractions, IR spectroscopy, and elemental and thermogravimetric analyses. Complexes 1 and 2 are isotypic, displaying helical chain structures. The fluorescence properties of 1 and 2 were investigated.

The reduction of magnesium phthalocyanine (MgPc) with 2.2 equivalents of potassium graphite in 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME) gives [K2(DME)4]PcMg(OH)(1) in 67% yield. Compound 1 was structurally characterized using single crystal X-ray crystallography and was found to be a monomeric, heterometallic complex consisting of a μ3-OH ligand that bridges a [MgIIPc3-]- anion to two potassium cations solvated by four DME molecules. An absorption spectrum of 1 confirms the Pc ligand is singly reduced and has a 3–charge. The solid-state structure of 1 does not indicate breaking of the aromaticity of the Pc ligand. Compound 1 is only the second Pc3- complex and the first reduced MgPc to be isolated and structurally characterized.

The room-temperature single-crystal X-ray structural characterization of the title compound (tpyH2)2[Tb(OH2)8]Cl7.~2⅓H2O is recorded. Crystals are triclinic, Pī , a 17.063(5), b 16.243(3), c 7.878(3) Ǻ, α 84.78(2), β 84.39(3), γ 87.81(2)°, Z = 2 formula units; 3167 'observed' diffractometer reflections were refined by full-matrix least-squares procedures to a residual of 0.057. Notable features of interest of the compound are the 'chelation' of chloride ions by the terpyridinium cations , and the existence of a free [Tb(OH2)8]2+ cation in the presence of an abundance of chloride ions.

Abstract Crystals of K2Pt(CN)4Br2, K2Pt(CN)4I2 and K2Pt(CN)4Cl2 ·2H2O were grown, and their crystal structures have been determined from single crystal data. The structure of K2Pt(CN)4Cl2 has been determined and refined from X-ray powder data. All compounds crystallize monoclinicly (P21/c; Z = 2), and K2Pt(CN)4X2 with X = Cl, Br, I are isostructural. K2Pt(CN)4Cl2: a = 708.48(2); b = 903.28(3); c = 853.13(3) pm; β = 106.370(2)°; Rp = 0.064 (N(hkl) = 423). K2Pt(CN)4Br2: a = 716.0(1); b = 899.1(1); c = 867.9(1) pm; β = 106.85(1)°; R(F)N′ = 0.026 (N’(hkl) = 3757). K2Pt(CN)4I2: a = 724.8(1); b = 914.5(1); c = 892.1(1) pm; β = 107.56(1)°; R(F)N′ = 0.025 (N’(hkl) = 2197). K2Pt(CN)4Cl2 ·2H2O: a = 763.76(4); b = 1143.05(6); c = 789.06(4) pm; β = 105.18(1)°; R(F)N′ = 0.021 (N’(hkl) = 2281). Raman and infrared spectroscopy data are reported.

Two dechlorinated products (B) and (D), formed in the reaction between endrin (C12H8Cl6O) and vanadium(II) for the purpose of confirmation of identity, are shown by single-crystal X-ray structure determination to be isomers of the title compound, C12H9Cl5O. Crystals of both are monoclinic, P21/c. For isomer (B), a 7.432(8), b 12.76(1), c 14.55(2) , β 108.32(9), Z=4; R was 0.038 for 2594 observed reflections. For isomer (D), a 9.037(4), b 12.004(4), c 14.436(6) , β 124.91(2)°, Z= 4; R was 0.041 for 1826 reflections. The geometries of the two isomers are compared.
