Tetrazolium-5-aminides have been prepared by the tert-butylation of 5-aminotetrazole and its N-methyl derivatives by the t-BuOH/HClO4 system followed by the treatment of the tetrazolium salts by alkali. The mesoionic compounds have been found to show a higher reactivity of the exocyclic N atom in comparison with 5-aminotetrazoles. The compounds reacted with 1,2-dibromoethane and 5-(methylsulfonyl)-1-phenyl-1H-tetrazole with substitution of bromine and methylsulfonyl groups giving the corresponding tetrazolium salts or conjugate aminides. The obtained mesoionic tetrazoles have been characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, NMR, and UV–vis spectroscopy, TGA/DSC analysis and for 1,3-di-tert-butyltetrazolium-5-aminide, its N,N’-ethylene-bridged bis-derivative and (1,3-di-tert-butyl-1H-tetrazol-3-ium-5-yl)(1-phenyl-1H-tetrazol-5-yl)amide by single crystal X-ray analysis. The structural and spectral features of the tetrazolium-5-aminides are discussed by using quantum-chemical calculations.

The reaction of P3N3Cl6 (1) with heptamethyldisilazane in the molar ratio 1:1 leads to the formation of 2,4,4,6,6-pentachloro-N-methyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)cyclotriphosphazen-2-amine, P3N3Cl5{N(CH3)[Si(CH3)3]} (2). Compound 2 was characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopically. Molecular and crystal structures of 2 were determined by X-ray diffraction. 2 is monoclinic, space group P21/n. Experimental data were compared with results of DFT calculations.

Three new copper(II) complexes, [Cu(LH)2]Br2 (1), [Cu(LH)2]NCS2 (2), and [Cu(LH)2](NO3)2 (3), where LH is the zwitterionic form of 2-bromo-6-((2-(isopropylamino)ethylimino)methyl)phenol (HL), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The structures of the complexes were further confirmed by single crystal X-ray structure determination. All compounds are mononuclear copper(II) complexes. The Cu atoms in the complexes are coordinated by two imino N and two phenolate O atoms from two LH ligands, forming square planar coordination. The compounds were assayed for their antimicrobial activities.

Two novel pinene-type ligands have been synthesized and their tautomeric and self-associating behavior studied in solution and in the solid state. The first ligand, an acetylated derivative of 5,6-pinene-bipyridine, displays keto-enol tautomerism in solution. This tautomeric equilibrium was studied by NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopy in various solvents, and the results were compared with the ones obtained through DFT calculations. The second ligand was obtained by an unusual oxidation of the phenanthroline unit of a pinene-phenanthroline derivative. This compound exists as a single tautomer in solution and aggregates both in solution (as observed by NMR) and in the solid state through H-bonding as observed by X-ray structure determination and confirmed by DFT studies.

The first two complexes of dioxovanadium(V) with salicylaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (SALTSC), of the coordination formulas [VO2(SALTSC-H)]?H2O (1) and NH4[VO2(SALTSC-2H] (2), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, conductometric measurements, IR and UV-vis spectroscopy and X-ray analysis. The complexes were obtained in the reaction of an aqueous ammoniacal solution of NH4VO3 and SALTSC. The results of the characterization showed that SALTSC was coordinated in the usual ONS tridentate mode as monoanion in complex 1 and dianion in complex 2. In both complexes, the vanadium atom is in a deformed square-pyramidal environment and is slightly shifted towards the apical oxo-ligand (? 0.52 ?).

A novel transition metal polyoxotungstate, [Cu(H2O)6][{Cu(H2O)2}2{Cu(H2O)4H4W12O42}] · 12H2O (1), has been synthesized in aqueous solution and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR and UV/vis spectroscopy, and TG analysis. The paradodecatungstate anions [H2W12O42]10− are linked by CuO6 octahedra, forming a three-dimensional (3D) structure. The magnetic susceptibility of compound 1 in the temperature range 2 - 300 K shows the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions within the uniform Cu2・ ・ ・Cu3 chains
