The reductive carbonylation of aryl iodides to aryl aldehydes possesses broad application prospects. We present an efficient and facile Rh-based catalytic system composed of the commercially available Rh salt RhCl3·3H2O, PPh3 as phosphine ligand, and Et3N as the base, for the synthesis of arylaldehydes via the reductive carbonylation of aryl iodides with CO and H2 under relatively mild conditions with a broad substrate range affording the products in good to excellent yields. Systematic investigations were carried out to study the experimental parameters. We explored the optimal ratio of Rh salt and PPh3 ligand, substrate scope, carbonyl source and hydrogen source, and the reaction mechanism. Particularly, a scaled-up experiment indicated that the catalytic method could find valuable applications in industrial productions. The low gas pressure, cheap ligand and low metal dosage could significantly improve the practicability in both chemical researches and industrial applications.

Hydroalkylation of unsaturated hydrocarbons with unstablized carbon nucleophiles is difficult and remains a major challenge. The disclosed examples so far mainly focused on the involvement of heteroatom and/or stabilized carbon nucleophiles as efficient reaction partners. Reported here is an unprecedented regioselective nickel-catalyzed hydroalkylation of 1,3-dienes with hydrazones, generated in situ from abundant aryl aldehydes and ketones and acted as both the sources of unstabilized carbanions and hydride. With this strategy, both terminal and sterically hindered internal dienes are hydroalkylated efficiently in a highly selective manner, thus providing a novel and reliable catalytic method to construct challenging C(sp3)-C(sp3) bonds.

With soil-rock mixture (SRM) as the object of study and compaction test as the means, the paper studies the compactability of the SRM and analyzes the compactability influencing factors and engineering properties after compaction. Studies show that the soil engineering properties of compacted SRM are greatly improved, so it is a building material with broad application prospects.

An electrophilic enantioselective catalytic method for the a-pentafluoroethylation of alkyl 1-indanone-2-carboxylates is described. Under the use of La(OTf)3 in combination with (<i>S,R</i>)-indanyl-<i>pybox</i> ligand good results in terms of yield and enantioselectivities were achieved (up to 89% <i>ee</i>). The reaction proceeds under mild conditions leading to the formation of enantioenriched quaternary centers. This methodology uses an hypervalent iodine(III)-CF2CF3 reagent and mechanistic investigations are consistent with the involvement of a radical pathway.

A combustion synthesis (SHS) process has been developed for the synthesis of Si3N4 powder under low nitrogen pressures. Si and NaN3 powders were used as the reactants, and NH4Cl powder was added as a catalytic agent. These powders were mixed and pressed into a cylindrical compact. The compact was wrapped up with an igniting agent (i.e., Ti + C), and the synthesis reaction was triggered by the combustion of the igniting agent. Addition of NH4Cl was found necessary for the combustion synthesis reaction under low nitrogen pressures (< 1.2 MPa). The product as synthesized is mostly in the form of agglomerated fine particles (0.1–1 μm in diameter) and is composed mainly of α-phase and a minor amount of β-phase. Effects of various experimental parameters (N2 pressure, NaN3, NH4Cl, and Si3N4 contents) on the product conversion and the combustion temperature were investigated. A possible reaction mechanism was proposed that explains the effects of the experimental parameters on the synthesis reaction.

Blockchain technology represented by Bitcoin and Ethereum has been deeply developed and widely used due to its broad application prospects such as digital currency and IoT. However, the security of the existing blockchain technologies built on the classical cryptography depends on the computational complexity problem. With the enhancement of the attackers’ computing power, especially the upcoming quantum computers, this kind of security is seriously threatened. Based on quantum hash, quantum SWAP test and quantum teleportation, a quantum blockchain system is proposed with quantum secure communication. In classical cryptographic theory sense, the security of this system is unconditional since it has nothing to do with the attackers’ computing power and computing resources.

Dielectric elastomer is a kind of electroactive polymer material with optimal performance. As actuator material, dielectric elastomer has shown a good prospect. Based on studying the principle of electroactive polymer, a new type of cylindrical actuator was designed. Its 3-D figure and 2-D dimension drawing was finished by UG software. The animation simulation of the actuator was studied. The simulation results verified the feasibility of design scheme. Electroactive polymer will have broad application prospects in the field of actuator.

Fe-containing compound clinoptilolite media (Fe-M), prepared with natural clinoptilolite, was applied to be the filter media of BAF, and then the treating performance of sewage by BAFs with Fe-M and ceramsite were investigated. Because Fe-M had relatively larger surface area, better pore connectivity, higher biofilm microbial biomass, and the ion-exchanging and adsorption effect, a higher ammonia nitrogen removal efficiency was obtained in BAF with Fe-M than ceramsite; and higher phosphorus removal in BAF with Fe-M was also realized by the adsorption and precipitation effect of the leaching ferric ions. Fe-M is more suitable to be used as the filter of BAF to treat sewage wastewater than ceramsite, which has a high value of broad application prospects and engineering popularization value.
