AbstractObjective: To examine the service utilisation of a newly opened psychiatric day centre. We wished to determine if different diagnostic groups had different perspectives of the day centre, and to see if the drop-out rate differed among clients with neurotic or psychotic disorders.Method: Demographic and diagnostic data was gathered for all clients referred in the first year of operation of the day centre. Those who defaulted from attendance were visited at home and asked to detail reasons for non-attendance. Those who continued to attend 16 months after the centre opened completed a satisfaction survey.Results: The drop-out rate was high for both clients with neurotic and psychotic disorders. Clients who continued to attend were very positive about the day centre. Both client groups saw the benefits of attendance in social rather than therapeutic terms.Conclusions: Consumer opinion may have a valuable part to play in overall measure,measurement of service quality, particularly if it includes the opinion of those who no longer use that service.

There are indications that more alcoholics are being placed in nursing homes than ever before. To determine in what ways these patients differ from others going to nursing homes, all alcoholics (72) placed from hospital to nursing homes were studied prior to placement and followed 6 months in 35 homes. Seventy-one nonalco-holics placed during the same period were randomly selected for comparison. Hospital disability ratings from physicians, evaluations from social workers, and diagnostic data from records indicated no significant differences in levels of disability or impairment. Alcoholics were less likely to be currently married and had less income. Although they were younger, they had a significantly higher number of diagnoses than other nursing home patients (P< .01); however, with the exception of cirrhosis and brain syndrome, they had fewer serious illnesses such as cancer and diabetes. Outcome after 6 months showed 28 percent left the nursing home, 45 percent were still in the home, 10 percent were hospitalized, and 16 percent had expired. These outcomes were not significantly different from other nursing home patients. Results indicate alcoholics are as much in need of nursing home services as other patients, even though they differ along social and specific illness patterns *

Bastawade & Borkar in 2008 made a passing reference to the presence of a single uropygid species in Goa, though without much primary diagnostic data on the collected specimen of four females.  The present study puts in place a definitive record of the uropygid, Labochirus tauricornis Pocock, (1900) in the state of Goa, and addresses an important gap in our understanding of its occurrence, morphology, and ecology. Besides documenting the species of this cryptozoic, nocturnal arachnid predator commonly known as ‘Vinegaroon’ on account of their vinegary allomone spray; the present study also describes the gross morphology , morphometry and micro-morphology of non-ambulatory sub-raptorial pedipalps which are of taxonomic-diagnostic value, elucidated using scanning electron microscopy, in addition to routine stereomicroscopy. The paper also examines in detail, sexual dimorphism and morphometry of this uropygid species.

Gas turbine aero engines and their ground based derivatives can benefit greatly from the enhanced condition and diagnostic data available from internal vibration transducers. This paper discusses transducer selection, illustrates typical transducer locations and mounting, and describes some of the rotor malfunctions that can be diagnosed from the vibrations data.
