The Pb-Sb mineralization with dominant stibnite and plagionite and associated semseyite and zinkenite was found in an archive material collected at the Antimonitová vein, Bohutín, Březové Hory ore district (Czech Republic). Plagionite forms subhedral aggregates up to 1 mm in size. The unit-cell parameters of plagionite for monoclinic space group C2/c refined from the X-ray powder data are: a 13.4890(17), b 11.8670(14), c 19.997(2) Å, β 107.199(8)° and V 3057.9(6) Å3. Its chemical composition (average of 26 analyses, based on 30 apfu) corresponds to the empirical formula Pb5.02Sb8.15S16.82. Associated zinkenite is forming subhedral crystals up to 1 mm in size. Its empirical formula can be expressed as (Cu0.25Ag0.02Fe0.01)Σ0.28Pb9.22Sb22.19S41.31 (average of 26 analyses, based on 73 apfu). Semseyite aggregates have the empirical formula (Pb8.72Fe0.14)8.86Sb8.42S20.73 (average of 11 analyses, based on 38 apfu).

Samples of mafic intrusive rock were analyzed for their mineralogical and chemical properties. The textural relationship was studied using the petrographic microscope, elemental composition of minerals was determined using the Electron Microprobe and the whole rock chemical analysis was done using the XRF and ICP-MS. The following minerals were observed in order of abundance; pyroxene, amphibole, plagioclase, biotite, opaque minerals, quartz and chlorite, with apatite and zircon occurring as accessory mineral. Two types of pyroxenes were observed; orthopyroxene (hypersthene) and clinopyroxene. Texturally, amphiboles have inclusions of plagioclase and pyroxene. The plagioclase has undergone sericitization. The chemical composition of the pyroxene is En51.95Fs44.53Wo3.52, biotite has Fe/(Fe+Mg):0.42, Mg/(Fe+Mg):0.59, and plagioclase is Ab63.5An34.55Or1.95. Whole rock chemistry shows a chemical composition; SiO2: 45.15 %, Al2O3: 14.04 %, Fe2O3: 16.01 %, MgO: 5.65 %, CaO: 7.58 % and TiO2: 3.59 %. There is an enrichment of LREE and a depletion of HREE. Based on the minerals, mineral chemistry and the geochemistry of the studied rock, the rock is mafic and hydrous minerals formed by hydration recrystallization of pyroxene. The rock has extensively retrogressed but has not been affected by any form of deformation.

The optical examination of a rock sample in thin section is the quickest and most economical method for classifying rock type and determining which analytical route to follow.Thin sections for transmitted light are the most common, but there are also:Polished Thin Sections • Polished sections are used for classification and identification of minerals that cannot be determined in standard thin sections. They are also essential for microprobe analysis. Minute mineral grains are analyzed by bombarding them with a focused bean of electrons, which generate x-rays, characteristic of the elements within the grains. X-rays are identified and quantified to determine the chemical composition of minerals.

Abstract We studied vertical changes in the chemical composition of zircon from two contrasting Variscan granite systems. The Beauvoir system (Massif Central, France) composed of three successive intrusions (B1, B2, B3) represents typical peraluminous S-type granite extremely enriched in P, F, Li, Rb, Cs, Be, Sn, Nb, Ta, and poor in Zr, Th, REE and Y. The Cínovec system (Krušné hory Mts/Erzgebirge, Czech Republic/Germany) composed of two successive intrusions (protolithionite granite, zinnwaldite granite) is only slightly peraluminous, P-poor, F, Li, Rb, Cs, U, Th, REE, Y, Sc, Sn, W, Nb, Ta-rich granite, which may be classified as A-type. In both localities, the most fractionated intrusions are located on the top of the system. Samples from borehole GPF-1 (Beauvoir) represent an 800 m long vertical section through the entire granite stock, while CS-1 borehole (Cínovec) reached a depth of 1600 m. Chemical compositions of zircons from both granite systems show distinct vertical zonality, but their shape and elemental speciation is highly contrasting. At Beauvoir, zircon shows a remarkable increase in Hf-content from 2-4 wt. % HfO2 (~0.03 apfu Hf) in the deepest B3-unit to 15-19 wt. % HfO2 (up to 0.18 apfu Hf) in the uppermost B1-unit. The highest contents of F, P, and U were detected in the intermediate unit B2 at a depth of 400-600 m. At Cínovec, Hf shows only moderate enrichment from ca. 2 wt. % HfO2 in the deeper protolithionite granite to 5-10 wt. % HfO2 in the uppermost part of the zinnwaldite granite. High contents of Th (3-8 wt. % ThO2) are entirely bound in the uppermost section of the granite copula to a depth of 200 m, but below this level the contents only sporadically exceed 1 wt. % ThO2. Concentrations of U, Y, HREE, Sc and Bi also reach their highest values in the uppermost parts of the zinnwaldite granite, but their decrease downward is much gentler. Extreme enrichment of outer zones of zircon crystals from some granites with Hf or high contents of Th, U, REE, Y, Nb and of some other elements in zircons from other localities is not considered to be a specific phenomenon characterizing melts of A- or S-type granite, but reflects a high degree of fractionation of systems rich in Na and F.

Objective: to study the chemical composition of the surface layer of enamel in dental caries depending on the activity of carious lesions. Material and methods. The chemical composition of the surface layer of enamel in teeth samples with arrested (n = 15) and active (n = 15) caries was studied using the high resolution SEM «Mira» by the firm «Tescan» (Czech Republic) with the micro spectral analyzer «INCA Energy 350» of the firm «Oxford Instruments Analytical» (Great Britain). Results. We have revealed reliable increases in carbon, oxygen and other light elements in the surface layer of the enamel at the area of active carious lesions in comparison with intact enamel and arrested carious lesions; significant decreases in the content of calcium, phosphorus, ratio of Ca / P coefficient for the surface layer of the enamel of active carious lesions in comparison with intact enamel and arrested carious lesions. We have revealed no reliable differences in the content of C, O, Ca, P, CI in the surface layer of intact enamel and that at the area of arrested no cavity caries.

The Guatomo mine is considered as one of the classic localities of mimetite worldwide. The chemical composition of six samples of minerals of mimetite-pyromorphite series from the Guatomo mine, representing different morphologies, colours as well as various geological environments/host rocks, was studied in detail by EMPA-WDS. This study revealed that both mimetite as well as pyromorphite are present at the Guatomo mine, representing rather variable compositional series ranging from the nearly end member mimetite (sample M1 - up to 0.03 apfu of P, sample M4 - up to 0.23 apfu of P and sample M5 with up to 0.18 apfu of P), through P-enriched mimetite (with 0.38 apfu of P) and As-rich pyromorphite (with 0.82 apfu of As, sample M2) up to As-enriched pyromorphite (sample M3 with As content reaching up to 1.03 apfu and sample M6 with up to 0.80 apfu of As). Besides of Pb, As, P and Cl only negligible amounts of Ca, V and S were detected in studied samples.
