The aim of this paper is to investigate the resistance to flexure of traditional and modern dental acrylic prosthetic bases. The practical utility of the laboratory studies carried out in this research is to apply the physical properties of plastic in medical technology, for improved clinical practice. The clinical utility of this research on prosthetic acrylic bases resistance is reflected in the quality of life of patients, the quality of mastication and durability of the prosthesis. Material and methods: experimental research, using a mechanical test machine. The results were analysed through quantitative methodes. Statistical correlations were made in the final experimental part. In conclusion, the values obtained in our experiments are comparable with those found in scientific literature. This fact enables us to recommend the use of the injection molding technique in clinical practice in our country, as well as the abandonment of the traditional manual stuffingpressing process.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify and evaluate the evidence found in the international scientific literature on the application of the Palliative Outcome Scale (POS) in clinical practice and research in Palliative Care (PC). Method: integrative literature review, through the search of publications in journals indexed in PubMed / MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO and CINAHL databases, between the years 1999 and 2014. Results: the final sample consisted of 11 articles. In the data analysis, the articles were classified into 2 units of analysis (studies using the POS as a resource in research and studies using the POS in clinical practice), in which the information was presented in the form of sub-themes related to publications of the selected studies, highlighting the synthesis of the results. Conclusion: POS emerged as an important tool for measuring outcomes to assess the quality of life of patients and families, of the quality of care provided and the PC service organization. The international scientific literature on the application of POS proved to be relevant to the advancement and consolidation of the field of knowledge related to PC.

The developments in the construction of buildings, roads, and bridges commonly use concrete as the main material due to its strength and hardiness. However, the quality of the concrete may decrease due to some factors namely the age of the concrete, temperature, pressure, tension, etc. Thus, it is important to monitor its condition to find out any small damage such as cracks. Utilizing optical fiber power loss, a sensor capable of detecting cracks on a concrete can be made. This research uses multimode fiber optic planted inside the concrete. Sensor variation model being planted is in the form of wave. The lightweight concrete is designed using plastic aggregate. A specific tool capable of responding the change of the laser power coming through the fiber optic using phototransistor is also made in this research. The concrete is tested using two testing equipment at a time namely pressure testing that uses UTM (Universal Test Machine) to assess mechanical loading. Testing out the concrete using designed result tool is done by shooting laser on one side of the optical fiber and read the output power. During the test, the concrete is loaded continually and gradually increases using the UTM. The source of the light is laser, 850 nm of length. The result of the experiment and tool testing show that when the quality of the concrete decreases, laser power output through optical fiber increases.

The article presents the classification of samples for comparative research, the study of which will contribute to the correct choice of a tactical method of obtaining them. The material also contains an analysis of the scientific literature related to the classification and systematization of the category in question; alternative grounds for dividing into groups are proposed. Classifying comparative samples, the author focuses on certain problems that practitioners face. Namely: the possibility of obtaining samples for a comparative research before the initiation of a criminal case, the validity of the use of coercion to obtain them, as well as the possibility of using comparative material obtained in the framework of operational search activities for expert studies. In preparing the article, general scientific methods of empirical knowledge (comparison, description), general logical methods of analysis, synthesis, generalization, classification, as well as methods of system-structural analysis were used. The purpose of the study of the problems of obtaining samples is to provide a systematic classification of this category in order to improve the quality of crime investigation. The conclusions made in the article on issues related to obtaining comparative samples at the stage of pre-investigation check and the possibility of using samples obtained during operational search activities are logically presented in the proposed classification.

Considerable advances have been made in the family management of schizophrenia but there remains a major challenge for the psychiatric services to integrate these innovations into clinical practice. A number of important issues need to be considered in developing routine clinical services: the problem of engaging families in a therapeutic programme; the utility of the concept of ‘expressed emotion’; and procedures for clinical practice. The latter include the needs of low-EE families; maintaining quality of intervention in a clinical context; responding to the multiplicity of needs of the patient and family; and integrating family interventions with ongoing rehabilitation practice. A model of service provision is described.

Annotation. The purpose of the work is to analyze the scientific literature regarding the constitutional markers of urticaria and their prognostic significance. The analysis of modern scientific literature in the scientometric databases PubMed and MEDLINE is carried out. A review of the literature indicates that significant progress has been made in understanding the etiopathogenesis of urticaria in recent decades, with some clinical and anamnestic signs suggestive of adverse outcomes. However, identifying patients with the highest risk of complications remains an unresolved issue. In connection with the development and implementation in clinical practice of methods of genetic typing, much attention is paid to the search for genetic predictors of adverse course of this dermatosis. To date, phenotypic marker profiles that have been little modified over a lifetime and available for visualization in everyday clinical practice have not been properly considered in assessing the risk of urticaria. Modern anthropocentric approach to solving the problem of risk prediction in urticaria opens up the prospect of taking into account constitutional (personality-typological, somato-typological) and genetic factors that are the basis of psychobiological reactivity of the individual, determining individual variability of pathogenesis and clinical manifestations, patterns severity and frequency of complications.

BACKGROUND: Remotely guided ultrasound (US) examinations carried out by nonmedical personnel (novices) have been shown to produce clinically useful examinations, at least in small pilot studies. Comparison of the quality of such exams to those carried out by trained medical professionals is lacking in the literature. This study compared the objective quality and clinical utility of cardiac and pulmonary US examinations carried out by novices and trained physicians.METHODS: Cardiac and pulmonary US examinations were carried out by novices under remote guidance by an US expert and independently by US trained physicians. Exams were blindly evaluated by US experts for both a task-based objective score as well as a subjective assessment of clinical utility.RESULTS: Participating in the study were 16 novices and 9 physicians. Novices took longer to complete the US exams (median 641.5 s vs. 256 s). For the objective component, novices scored higher in exams evaluating for pneumothorax (100% vs. 87.5%). For the subjective component, novices more often obtained clinically useful exams in the assessment of cardiac regional wall motion abnormalities (56.3% vs. 11.1%). No other comparisons yielded statistically significant differences between the two groups. Both groups had generally higher scores for pulmonary examinations compared to cardiac. There was variability in the quality of exams carried out by novices depending on their expert guide.CONCLUSION: Remotely guided novices are able to carry out cardiac and pulmonary US examinations with similar, if not better, technical proficiency and clinical utility as US trained physicians, though they take longer to do so.Dufurrena Q, Ullah KI, Taub E, Leszczuk C, Ahmad S. In recent years, outstanding progress has been made in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiomyopathies. Genetics is emerging as a primary point in the diagnosis and management of these diseases. However, molecular genetic analyses are not yet included in routine clinical practice, mainly because of their elevated costs and execution time. A patient-based and patient-oriented clinical approach, coupled with new imaging techniques such as cardiac magnetic resonance, can be of great help in selecting patients for molecular genetic analysis and is crucial for a better characterisation of these diseases. This article will specifically address clinical, magnetic resonance and genetic aspects of the diagnosis and management of cardiomyopathies.
