The objectives of this descriptive qualitative study were to discover: (1) the types of impoliteness strategy, (2) types of attacks, and (3) how the responses to the impolite attack in Jakarta Lawyers Club (JLC) Talk Show on TVOne. The source of data were the participants’ utterances in JLC Talk Show from the topics of Talk Show namely Badai Demokrat Menerjang Kemana–Mana, Anas Siap Digantungdi Monas, and Dibalik Bungkamnya Nazaruddin in order to find out therecurrences and the pattern of the data based on the problem of the study. The data were identified, analyzed and categorized based on Culpeper’s (1996) theory. The findings of the study shows that: 1) there were four types of impoliteness strategies appeared in JLC Talk Show, namely Bald On Record Impoliteness (37.5%), Positive Impoliteness (27.5%), Negative Impoliteness (25.0%), and Sarcasm (10%), 2) there were two types of attacks appeared in JLC Talk Show namely Attacks on Quality Face (92.5%) and Attacks on Social Identity Face (7.5%), and 3) in responding to the impolite attacks, there were three ways appeared in JLC Talk Show namely not responding (52.5%), countering defensively (32.5%), and countering offensively (15.0%). The findings shows that JLC Talk Show was a formal context of Talk Show in which its participants were educated people who mostly use a direct strategy of impoliteness (Bald On Record Impoliteness) in attacking on the other participants’ personal quality (Quality Face) but the attacks dominantly were not responded by them. Therefore, it can be concluded that in communication, everyone may convey his or her opinions, arguments, and feelings but he or she should express the good attitude to communicate. Some suggestions are directed to those who are interested in understanding impoliteness strategy as found in practice.

This study discusses about language use occurred by male and female host in Hitam Putih talk show. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study are male and female host in Hitam Putih talk show. The data are the utterances produced by male and female host in Hitam Putih talk show. This research focuses on the show broadcasted on October 2016 by taking 4 videos randomly. The objective of this study is to describe kinds of the language use uttered by male and female host in Hitam Putih talk show. The findings showed that the kinds of language use consist of 6 parts. The dominant language use uttered by male host is expletive, because male’s utterances are frequently stated in a negative connotation. On the other hand, female host utterances are found in specialized vocabulary as the most dominant because female host has more interest in talking family affairs, such as the education of children, clothes, cooking, and fashion, etc. Women also tended to talk about one thing related to the home and domestic activities. However, the representation of language use uttered by male and female are deficit, dominance and different. Keywords: Language Use, Gender, Talk Show

Abstrak: Penelitian Analisis Penggunaan Kohesi Referensi pada Naskah Drama Siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan merupakan penelitian deskriptif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan penggunaan kohesi referensi pada naskah drama siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Populasi data dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan. Objek siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan yang dipilih adalah siswa jurusan IPA dan IPS kelas XI. Teknik penentuan subjek didasarkan pada pengambilan sampel yang dilakukan secara random sampling. Adapun objek penelitian ini adalah penggunaan peranti kohesi referensi dalam naskah drama siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan. Data diperoleh dengan metode membaca dan teknik mencatat. Metode analisisnya menggunakan metode analisi deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini dapat dideskripsikan penggunaan peranti kohesi referensi pada naskah drama siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan, yaitu (1) kohesi referensi pronomina persona adalah pronomina yang dipakai untuk mengacu pada orang. Pronomina persona terdiri atas persona orang pertama tunggal dan jamak, pronomina orang kedu tunggal dan jamak, dan pronomina orang ketiga tunggal dan jamak; (2) kohesi pronomina demonstratif adalah pronomina penunjuk umum, pronomina penunjuk tempat, dan pronomina penunjuk hal ikhwal; (3) kohesi referensi komparatif adalah kohesi referensi yang menyatakan perbandingan unsur yang satu dibandingkan dengan unsur yang lain. Kohesi referensi komparatif terdiri atas kohesi referensi komparatif yang menyatakan kurang, kohesi referensi komparatif yang menyatakan sama, dan kohesi referensi komparatif yang menyatakan lebih.Kata kunci: Kohesi, referensi, naskah drama Abstract: This study Analisis Penggunaan Kohesi Referensi pada Naskah Drama Siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan is descriptive study. The aim of this study is to describe the using of reference cohesion in drama script by SMAN 2 Kandangan student. This is descriptive qualitative study. The data population is the student of SMAN 2 Kandangan. The object of this study is SMAN 2 Kandangan from Science and Social class of second grade. Subject determination technique is based on random sampling.The data are gained through reading and writing. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The object of this study is the using of reference cohesion instrument in drama script of SMAN 2 Kandangan’ students. The result shows that the using of reference cohesion instrument in drama script by the student of SMAN 2 Kandangan are (1) pronomen reference cohesion is pronomen refers to a person. Person pronomen consist of singular and plural of first person. Pronomen singular and plural of second person, and pronomen singular and plural of third person; (2) demonstrative pronomen cohesion is general instruction pronomen, place instruction pronomen, cause instruction pronomen, occurances instruction pronomen; (3) comparative reference cohesion is reference cohesion that stating comparation of one component to the other one. Comparative reference cohesion consists of comparative reference cohesion that stating inefficient, comparative reference cohesion that stating equality, and comparative reference cohesion that stating more.Key words: cohesion, reference, drama script

<p><em>This research discuss religion and moral development of students of kindergarten in TK A nDasari Budi Krapyak Yogyakarta. This research is descriptive qualitative. The data is acquired from interview, observation, and another data collecting which is support this research. The result of this research is (1) Religion and moral development development which are not achieved by student of kindergarten in class A1 TK Masyitoh nDasari Budi Yogykarta, they are: only knowing religion and God trough song, they do not accustom to have worshipping activities, they have not understood what is good attitude, they have not been able to defferentiate between good attitude and bad attitude, and they have not know much about religious ritual but they have not known Islamic day celebrations; and they not known about the other religions. (2) They need to be given knowledge about children education and increasing affection and togetherness.</em></p><p><strong><em> </em>Abstrak</strong></p><p>Penelitian ini membahas tentang perkembangan agama dan moral pada anak usia dini di TK A <em>nDasari Budi</em> Krapyak Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif deskriptif. Data diperoleh dari wawancara, observasi, dan pengumpulan data-data yang mendukung penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Perkembangan agama dan moral yang tidak tercapai pada AUD di kelas TK A1 Masyitoh <em>nDasari Budi</em> Yogyakarta diantaranya mengetahui agama dan Tuhanya lewat menyanyi, tidak membiasakan diri beribadah, belum memahami perilaku mulia, belum dapat membedakan perilaku yang baik dan buruk, dan sedikit sekali mengenal ritual kegamaan dan belum mengenal hari besar Islam; serta belum mengetahui agama orang lain. (2) perlu pengetahuan pemberikan tentang pendidikan anak dan meningkatkan kasih sayang serta kebersamaan dengan anak-anak.</p>

This article is a descriptive qualitative study. The aims of this study are to identify types of satirical expression and identify the translation techniques used to translate the satirical expression found in serial television subtitle entitled ‘Bridgerton’. The utterance contains satirical expression found in 5 episodes of the serial television used as data in this research—the data obtained through content analysis. There are four types of satirical expression analyzed in this research; irony, satire, cynicism and sarcasm. Furthermore, the result suggests that there are 66 data of satire, 49 data of cynicism, 29 data of sarcasm, and 27 data of irony. On the other hand, there are 13 translation techniques applied in translating the utterance of satirical expression. The most dominant technique used is reduction (29) followed by discursive creation (23), established equivalent (23), literal translation (22), compensation (21), linguistic compression (20), transposition (14), modulation (8), linguistic amplification (4), borrowing (3), particularization (2), adaptation (1), dan substitution (1). The use of reduction technique is to shorten the subtitles that appear on the screen.

<p>The movement of humanities solidarity that is widely voiced is the women's movement specifically to wear the hijab (hijab) as a form of solidarity with Muslims. women take a role that is based on the awareness of the importance of togetherness wearing headscarves as a symbol of strength to reject any rhetoric of hatred on any basis, be it identity, religion, race, and ethnicity. This paper describes the veiled women's movement as a form of humanitarian solidarity in the aftermath of the New Zealand tragedy. A descriptive qualitative study of library research was conducted using the Durkheiminism approach. This study produces findings that the hijab has a symbol of religious meaning that is closely related to solidarity and social identity. The veil becomes a symbol of social solidarity as well as resistance to abuse. The hijab movement was born as a collective act to revive the spirit of togetherness among religious followers in combating various acts of radicalism and terrorism.</p>

The study aims to explain the implementation of cultural filter through the House’s dimensions (2015), as well as to explain the achievement of functional equivalence of children comic Chicken Little: The Sky is Falling. This study belongs to descriptive qualitative study. The research was conducted by analyzing the dimensions of directness versus indirectness, orientation towards other versus orientation towards self, orientation towards addressees versus orientation towards content, implicitness versus explicitness, verbal routines versus ad-hoc formulation. The findings reveal that there are 190 cultural filters found within the comic. There are 111 from orientation towards addressees versus orientation towards content, implicitness versus explicitness are 31, directness versus indirectness are 30, verbal routines versus ad-hoc formulation are 15, and the last is 3 from orientation towards other versus orientation towards self. On the other hand, out of 190, 15 sentences are identified as non-equivalence. In accordance with the result, the translator successfully applies cultural filter in order to reduce the cultural gap between SL and TL. Besides, the findings also suggest that cultural filter supports the achievement of functional equivalence of the translation.

Sociolinguistics is the study of language variation and use in society. Interference is the event of the use of language elements of one into the other language elements that occur in the speakers themselves. This research uses descriptive qualitative method because to describe the actual realityin order to obtainan accurateand objective. Qualitative descriptive methods were used to analyzethe elements ofa word orphrase that incorporated elements of other languages with the analysis and description of the formulation of the problem is the answer. Data collection techniques using observation techniques, the determination ofthe object of research, the selection of short stories.Based on the analysis of the data in this study can be found that there are six forms of interference morphology, namely (1) the prefix nasal N-sound, (2) the addition of the suffix, (3) the exchange prefix, (4) exchange suffixes, (5) exchange konfiks, (6) removal affixes. While the syntactic interference only on the words and phrases in a sentence. The results of the study it can be concluded that the interference morphology more common than syntactic interference.

The objectives of the research were to describe the types of speech acts used in televised political debates of governor candidates of North Sumatera, to derive the dominant type of speech acts used in televised political debates of governor candidates of North Sumatera and to elaborate the way of five governor candidates of North Sumatera use speech acts in televised political debates. This research was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative research. The findings show that there were only four types of speech acts used in televised political debates, Debat Pemilukada Sumatera Utara and Uji Publik Cagub dan Cawagub Sumatera Utara, they were assertives, directives, commissives and expressives. The dominant type of speech acts used in both televised political debates was assertives, with 82 utterances or 51.6% in Debat Pemilukada Sumatera Utara and 36 utterances or 41.37% in Uji Publik Cagub dan Cawagub Sumatera Utara. The way of governor candidates of North Sumatera used speech acts in televised political debates is in direct speech acts, they spoke straight to the point and clearly in order to make the other candidates and audiences understand their utterances.   Keywords: Governor Candidate; Political Debate; Speech Acts

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji perbandingan kepercayaan masyarakat Talagadi Majalengka dan masyarakat Nagoya di Jepang. Kepercayaan yang dimaksud dalampenelitian ini adalah kepercayaan yang berhubungan dengan tabu atau pamali dankepercayaan yang berhubungan dengan keberuntungan pada kedua masyarakat tersebut.Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut digunakan metode deskripstif kualitatif. Dalam memupudata digunakan metode lapangan karena peneliti terjun langsung ke masyarakat. Disamping itu, digunakan pula metode survey melalui penyebaran daftar kuesioner. Hasilpenelitian menunjukkan bahwa bentuk kepercayaan yang berhubungan dengan tabu ataupamali pada masyarakat Talaga dan Nagoya meliputi kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh manusia.Adapun kepercayaan yang berhubungan dengan keberuntungan pada kedua masyarakattersebut berkaitan dengan binatang, benda, dan kegiatan manusia. Sampai saat ini baikmasyarakat Talaga maupun Nagoya masih memegang teguh kepercayaan tersebut.Kata kunci: kepercayaan, Talaga, Nagoya, deskriptif kualitatif, komparasi budaya.AbstractThe aim of this research is to review the comparison of belief between the society ofTalaga in Majalengka and the society of Nagoya in Japan. The intended belief on this study isthe one related with a taboo or pamali, and the belief correlated to luck on both societies. Inachieving the goal, this research uses a descriptive qualitative method. To get the data, thewriter uses a field method that he (/she) directly involves with the people. On the other hand,the writer also uses a survey method by distributing questioners. The result shows that the beliefcorrelated with the taboo or pamali of Talaga and Nagoya societies covers the activities doneby human. Also with the belief related to luck of both societies corresponds to animals, things,and human’s activities. Until now, either Talaga society or Nagoya’s still keeps those beliefs.Keyword: belief, Talaga, Nagoya, descriptive qualitative, cultural comparison.

This study is aimed at describing lecturers’ strategies to internalize Islamic values and students’ response toward the strategies. This a descriptive-qualitative study. The participants were 40 students of English education program and 3 English lecturers. All participants were given questionnaire and 3 students and 3 lecturers were interviewed. The data showed that all lecturers did internalize the Islamic values such as aqidah, worship, and moral values in the English learning preparation, process, and evaluation. However, students requested that the lecturers should consistently became the role model, performed positive habit, and gave best learning service so that the impact of internalizing Islamic values would be significantly and positively received.
