ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to evaluate the sexual function in cervical cancer survivors after radiotherapy (RT) or radical surgery (RS).MethodsThis was an observational and cross-sectional study. The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) self-reported questionnaires were distributed to 175 patients after RT (RT group) or RS (RS group) and 521 healthy women (control) between 2011 and 2012. Sexual functions were compared among these 3 groups.ResultsEligible 92 patients (46 in RT group, 46 in RS group) and 148 control subjects were included for analysis. There was a significant difference in median (range) FSFI total score of 5.5 (3.6–34.7) in the RT group, 18.9 (3.4–31.2) in the RS group, and 22.1 (2–34.2) in the control group (P < 0.001). The median FSFI total score in the RT group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.001). Six sexual domains (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, pain) were all significantly affected in the RT group, and no significant differences, except pain, were observed in the RS group as compared with the control group.ConclusionsInterventions involving counseling and rehabilitation for female sexual function should be provided in cervical cancer survivors, especially after RT.

Talks regarding sexual problems are not encouraging in Bangladesh and sufferers are in grave situation as they are not sure regarding whom to approach and how to start. It was aimed to see the presenting patterns of female sexual dysfunctions (FSD) and co-morbidities among the patients attending at different outpatient departments (OPD) at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). This descriptive cross sectional study was conducted among 173 female patients attending at gynecology, endocrinology and psychiatry OPD, BSMMU. Sample was taken by convenient sampling within the period of October 2015 to December 2016. Data were collected through face-to-face interview with Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire. The results showed that, most (95.95%) of the patients were in the reproductive age group. Majority of the patients (32.95%) were in 26-30 years age group and 24.85% were in 18-25 years age group. Majority (77.5%) belonged to home maker occupational class where 12.7% was service-holder. Fifty six percent of the respondents were found to have sexual dysfunctions and 38.15% patients had endocrinological co-morbidities, 37.57% had gynecological co- morbidities and 33.53% had psychiatric co-morbidities. Positive openness in sexual health is required for the betterment of both treatment and diagnosis of sexual disorders. Specialized service center focusing the different groups is needed to deal with sexual health in a developing country like Bangladesh. Bang J Psychiatry December 2016; 30(2): 27-31

Abstract Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) coexisting mood disorders along with a combination of aesthetic manifestations may have a detrimental effect on women's sexual function. Hence, different phenotypes of PCOS have different clinical and biochemical signs and symptoms. The aim of this study was to compare women's sexual function (SF) in different phenotypes of PCOS.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 364 women who met the Rotterdam diagnostic criteria to compare different PCOS phenotypes (A=95, B=78, C=95, and D=95). All patients were invited to fill out the female sexual function index (FSFI).Results: Significant differences were observed between the different phenotypes in terms of total score, sexual desire, arousal, lubrication, and satisfaction (P<0.001); however, no significant differences were found between them in the terms of pain (P>0.05) and orgasm (P>0.05). In addition, phenotype B had the lowest mean score of total FSFI (P<0.05).Conclusion: The results indicated that women's SF is significantly different in different PCOS phenotypes. It is concluded that in order to solve the SF problems of women with PCOS, different treatment and care measures should be considered according to the relevant phenotype.

Background: Although female sexual function can be affected by many psychological, interpersonal, and sociocultural factors, limited studies have focused on the relationships between this construct with some concepts such as women’s attitudes toward menstruation and perception from their gender role. Objective: To investigate the association between gender roles and attitude toward menstruation with sexual function among Iranian reproductive women. Materials and Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was carried out on a group of 164 Iranian women referred to the health centers of Torbat Heydariyeh, between August and December 2018. All eligible women filled the female sexual function index (FSFI), Bem Sex Role Inventory, and Menstrual Attitude Questionnaire. Results: The result showed that the total FSFI score was significantly higher in masculine and androgynous gender role groups than women with undifferentiated gender role (p = 0.014, and p = 0.012, respectively). Nevertheless, androgynous women had better sexual arousal than undifferentiated women (p = 0.013). Significant reverse correlations were observed between the perception of menstruation as a debilitating, bothersome, and predictable event with a total score of FSFI and all subscales except lubrication (p = 0.001). In contrast, there was a positive relationship between denial of any effects of menstruation with total FSFI and all its sub-scores except lubrication (p = 0.001). Conclusion: This study highlighted the role of masculinity and androgyny gender role stereotypes and menstrual attitude in the sexual function of heterosexual women. Future studies are needed to explain how these psychological contexts contribute to different aspects of women’s sexuality. Key words: Menstruation, Gender roles, Sexual behavior.

Background: In the present study, we aim to report on the sexual function of women experiencing symptoms of endometriosis, analysing the clinical and psychosocial factors that may be associated. Methods: A multicentre cross-sectional study was performed to analyse the sexual function in a sample of 196 Spanish women with endometriosis, using the Female Sexual Function Inventory. Results: The Female Sexual Function Inventory (FSFI) was validated in our endometriosis study group. The mean FSFI score for the sample was 22.5 (SD 6.6), with 20.9 and 26.9 being in the 25th and 75th percentiles, respectively. Although physical sexual pain and dyspareunia were factors that influenced the sexual function of women with endometriosis, our results show that the impairment was multifactorial. Conclusions: We found impaired sexual function in women diagnosed with endometriosis. The final model included deep endometriosis, depression, age, and unemployment as strongest predictive factors for poor (deteriorated) sexual function.
