Cognitive ability alone is no longer the highest standard by which companies assess college graduates. Non-cognitive ability, such as emotional intelligence (EI), is an essential skill that distinguishes the potential high-performance students. It is hypothesized that high academic performing students will also display more EI levels than students with more modest academic achievement. The present study aims to review the studies conducted across the globe to explore the impact of EI's fundamental components, namely personal and social competencies on academic performance among the college students. The current literature reviews found a growing area of research into EI's necessary competencies and its relationship with academic performance among the students. The study reveals that a high level of personal and social competencies results in increased academic performance and vice versa. Research work done by various researchers shows a positive and significant relationship exists between the EI competencies (personal and social competencies) with the academic performance of the college students. KEYWORDS: Emotional Intelligence, Academic Performance, College students, Personal competencies, Social competencies.

Indigenous innovation and industrial upgrading are the defining trends of economic development in the new era. With the formation of city clusters and the more scientific industry plant layout, the demand for talents in various cities is increasingly pressing. College students have become the major groups in the context of talent introduction policy. Major cities have initiated preferential policies to attract talents. The Scramble for Talent Campaign occurs among cities, making a considerable difference on the college graduates’ employment and entrepreneurship. Since the initiation of “Scramble for Talent” campaign, the talent flow in relevant cities has accelerated measurably. The research shows that Hukou (the household registration) is the main element that the college graduates factor into consideration when selecting places of employment, and the fund and policy support they are able to receive are the key elements to promote innovation. In the “Scramble for Talent”, such measures as relaxing restrictions on household registration policy, launching preferential loans policy and other support policies have considerably influenced on the college graduates’ employment and entrepreneurship, which helps to optimize the distribution of talent resources and improve the willingness and success rate of entrepreneurship. In order to illustrate the effect, a series of policies and the transformation and upgrading of pillar industries are required in the introduction of talents. The blind scramble for talents will not only unbalance the allocation of human resources but will also cause social problems. It will spread the “City Disease” from the first-tier cities to the second and third-tier cities. The college students and all relative administration in all regions should pay high attention to this problem during the course. Generally speaking, the “Scramble for Talent” Campaign is a special phenomenon in a special period, which positively impact the college graduates’ employment and entrepreneurship.

The beneficial effect of STF impregnation in enhancing the impact resistance of high-performance fabrics has been extensively reported in the literature. However, this research work reports that fabric structure has a decisive role in moderating the effectiveness of STF impregnation in terms of impact energy absorption. Plain woven fabrics having sett varying from 25 × 25 inch−1 to 55 × 55 inch−1 were impregnated with STF at two different padding pressures to obtain different add-ons. The impact energy absorption by STF impregnated loosely woven fabrics was found to be higher than that of their neat counterparts for both levels of add-on, while opposite trend was observed in case of tightly woven fabrics. Further, comparison of tightly woven plain, 2/2 twill, 3/1 twill and 2 × 2 matt fabrics revealed beneficial effect of STF impregnation, except for the plain woven fabric, establishing that there exists a fabric structure-STF impregnation interplay that tunes the impact resistance of woven fabrics.

Research has shown that students’ emotional intelligence (EI) can be enhanced with time intensive instructional methods other studies are inconclusive. I looked at the impact of including short EI lessons in an introductory hospitality management class. Results show that students who started with low EI increased their scores significantly; however, those with medium and high EI did not. More intensive EI lessons may be needed for those who start with higher levels of EI. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) reflections were used and the results of the current study were also compared to other similar studies to identify EI teaching methods among faculty in other disciplines. My recommendations are included for those who want to incorporate EI lessons into their classes to enhance students’ emotional and social competencies.

The paper examines the impact of resource- based capability and competitive strategy on the performance of hightech new ventures in Kerala. The resource-based capability was analyzed using the variables managerial capability, technical capability, marketing capability and input sourcing capability of the firm. Competitive strategy was measured by looking into cost strategy, quality strategy, innovation strategy, and customization strategy adopted by the firm. A descriptive research was undertaken to analyze the performance of the ventures. A survey method was administered to collect data from 83 high- tech startups in Kerala. Independent sample t-test, Multiple regression and Cluster analysis were used to arrive at a conclusion. The findings indicate that both resource- based capability and competitive strategy influences the performance of a venture. It was found that the entrepreneurs of profitable ventures exhibit better managerial capability. The results of the cluster analysis show that the entrepreneurs with high performance indicators are customer centric. The innovation strategy and marketing capability adopted by the firm has an impact on the venture performance. The findings suggest that sales, profitability and financial position can be predicted to an extend by the resourcebased capability and competitive strategy adopted by the venture. The research work can be used by emerging entrepreneurs, policymakers and incubation managers to develop a framework to improve the performance of startups.

The competition between countries is essentially the competition of innovative talents. However, China now faces multiple problems in the cultivation of innovative talents: the talents are weak in innovation ability; the high-level innovative talents are not sufficient; neither the quality or level of talents fully meet the demand of social and economic development. As a result, it is urgent for colleges to renovate the cultivation mode of innovative talents. Focusing on the cultivation of innovative talents majoring in architectural design, this paper thoroughly analyzed the extensible teaching mode for cultivating college students into innovative talents. Firstly, a questionnaire survey on relevant issues was carried out among employers and college graduates. The survey results revealed several problems with the innovative talent training in Chinese colleges, namely, the irrational curriculum design, the narrow scope of training objectives, and the lack of diverse teaching methods. Results verified, the employers are not highly satisfied with the innovative talents, especially the newly graduated ones. These problems are attributable to the weak professional development ability, poor teamwork ability, and insufficient innovation ability. To solve these problems, the authors analyzed and expounded the extensible teaching mode for the cultivation of innovative talents from four aspects: teaching content scope, teaching methods, teaching space, and appraisal. The research findings enrich the evidences of innovative talent training in Chinese colleges, providing a reference for improving the training quality of innovative talents.

This research work presents a hierarchical method able to reconstruct the time history of the impact force on a composite wing stringer-skin panel by using the structural responses measured by a set of surface bonded ultrasonic transducers. Time reversal method was used to identify the impact location by the knowledge of structural responses recorded from a set of excitation points arbitrarily chosen on the plane of the structure. Radial basis function interpolation approach was then used to calculate the transfer function at the impact point and reconstruct the impact force history. Experimental results showed the high level of accuracy of the proposed impact force reconstruction method for a number of low-velocity impact sources and energies.
