The fundamental role of symmetry has to be more closely enhanced in the interplay between mathematics and physics to foster the teaching of the Nature of Science. In our presentation, we explore the positive effect of introducing the modern concept of symmetry viewed as “sameness within change”. A teaching-learning sequence (TLS) was conducted to test the challenges of an interdisciplinary approach based on symmetry and invariance in the educational context, namely at the primary school level. In the design of this sequence, solving the game of closing special cardboard boxes provides a fundamental role. The study evaluates how the specific teaching action makes the modern concept of symmetry in principle appropriate for primary school students through manipulative games. We investigate the students’ cognitive paths about symmetry during the sequence by analysing pre- and post-sequence questionnaires. The questionnaire comprises four questions with dichotomous choice, items text, narrative text, and open justification. It is structured mainly in three domains devoted to cognitive, affective, and psychomotor dimensions. The analysis is composed of a mixed method approach. The investigations incorporate qualitative data with Text Analytics and Natural Language Processing (NLP) statistics to identify and extract information from pupils’ written reflections. Our study also explores whether the emotion experienced by students plays a role in the TLS. Results show that educational activities induce the increasing knowledge and skills of students. In particular, most students interpreted the lessons as experiences rich in stimuli and insights on symmetry and mathematics in general. The findings also bring important suggestions and contents of reflection that teachers can consider for exploiting the potential learning path on symmetry and invariance.

The project is situated in the field of teaching physics, generally speaking, science education. It aims at studying the interplay between physics and mathematics, introducing an interdisciplinary approach based on the modern concept of symmetry or sameness within change (i.e., invariance). The interdisciplinary methods integrate the process skills common to discovery-based science and problem-based mathematics, typically of Nature of Science (NoS) modelling. We designed a teaching-learning sequence(TLS) and implemented it in an Italian primary school on a sample group (N = 96). Research conforms to pre-and post-test design with a control group. The resulting data were examined through a mixed method. We assess the effectiveness of the TLS by analysing the learning changes in the level of pupils’ knowledge of symmetry. The findings show that the pupils were in the regime of competence for grasping the changed view of symmetry. It also provides ideas that the concepts of symmetry and invariance will allow building the architecture of more extensive scientific knowledge. The study of transformations and invariants facilitates the acquisition of cognitive procedures fitting in many domains, modelling and generalization processes. This research contribution brings important suggestions for designs of successive steps in the learning path on symmetry.

An attempt is made to provide an interpretive framework for the findings of recent research on teaching at the primary-school level. A model of teaching/learning processes is outlined prior to an investigation of the empirical linkages between the elements of the model. Following this, the implications of the model for teaching skills are explored.

Investigations were conducted on learning problems using the sample of eighth-grade students of primary school (N=335). The respondents opted for one or more than seven offered statements related to: insufficient previous knowledge, insufficient studying, teaching contents (extensive, difficult unintelligible), textbook and teacher?s method of presenting the contents. On the basis of the results obtained, one-third of students have problems in mastering teaching contents of foreign language, physics and chemistry, and about one-fourth in mastering those of history and mathematics. All the mentioned causes of problems are present in varying degrees in some school subjects. The causes of learning problems are markedly present in a larger number of school subjects and they are related to some characteristics of teaching contents. Respondents point out, to a large extent, that teaching contents of technical education are uninteresting. In addition, students? responses indicate that it is necessary to improve the method for mastering the teaching contents in various school subjects i.e. methods applied in the teaching process. Subjective causes, as pointed out by students, are connected with some of the subjects they have characterized as the most difficult. Unintelligible textbook is stressed to the lowest extent as a cause of learning problems compared to other causes stated for the majority of school subjects.

One of the actions for prospective educators and educators at the elementary school level when going to carry out teaching learning activities is to create a Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP). Making and developing RPP is a pedagogical competence that must be mastered by teachers. Pedagogic competence is a competency that absolutely needs to be mastered by educators. The purpose of this research is to analyze the pedagogical ability of prospective primary school educators in making a plan for the implementation of character-grade learning. The method used in this study is with a qualitative descriptive approach with the type of field research or field study. Qualitative research is defined as a research procedure that produces descriptive data in the form of written words. The novelty of this research is at the same time analyzing the making of RPP when students learn from home due to the Covid-19 virus pandemic. The results of this research are the average pedagogical ability of prospective primary school educators in terms of developing a lesson plan (RPP) in accordance with Permendiknas No. 22 of 2016 contains good character values. However, prospective educators when developing components of learning objectives and assessment of learning outcomes are still inaccurate. Abstrak Salah satu tindakan awal bagi calon pendidik dan pendidik jenjang sekolah dasar pada saat akan melaksanakan kegiatan belajar mengajar adalah yakni membuat Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP). Mengembangkan serta membuat RPP merupakan salah satu dari kompetensi pedagogik yang harus di kuasai oleh pendidik. Kompetensi pedagogik adalah kompetensi yang mutlak perlu dikuasai pendidik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kemampuan pedagogik calon pendidik tingkat sekolah dasar dalam membuat rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran bermuatan nilai karakter. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian field research atau studi lapangan. Penelitian kualititatif dimaknai sebagai prosedur penelitian yang menghasilkan data deskriptif berupa kata-kata tertulis. Kebaruan dari penelitian ini adalah sekaligus menganalisis pembuatan RPP pada masa peserta didik belajar dari rumah akibat pandemi virus Covid-19. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah rata-rata kemampuan pedagogik calon pendidik tingkat sekolah dasar dalam hal mengembangkan rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran (RPP) sesuai dengan Permendiknas No. 22 tahun 2016  bermuatan nilai karakter sudah baik. Akan tetapi calon pendidik pada saat mengembangkan komponen tujuan pembelajaran dan penilaian hasil belajar masih ada yang kurang tepat. The development of communicative competence is one of the most distinct priorities in contemporary education system in Lithuania (Lietuvos valstybinė švietimo strategija 2013–2022 m.; Pradinio ir pagrindinio ugdymo bendrosios programos (patvirtinta LR švietimo ir mokslo ministro 2008 m. rugpjūčio 26 d. įsakymu Nr. ISAK-2423). Conception of communicative competence of primary school age students is founded on the communication and competence definitions: communication is the activity of conveying information, based on the principle of dialogue, through the exchange of thoughts, messages, experiences, as by verbal or nonverbal interaction, seeking mutual understanding and competence is the entirety of knowledge, abilities, and valuebased attitudes necessary for successful development / self-development and daily life. The objective to enhance effectiveness of the processes of the development of communicative competence induces turning back to the opportunities proposed by training through arts, specifically through drama activity. Effectively applied, drama activity methods can play importante role in transforming and supporting teaching. Following this we raised the research questions: How to specify activities in the textbooks by identifying the methods of creative activity relevant to the development of communicative competence? How in the textbooks (Lihuanian language, Nature Science and Mathematics) are proposed teaching and learning activities relevant to primary school age student‘s communicative abilities (listening, speaking and reading), and how activities are distributed under classes and object of textbooks? How drama activities are presented in the textbooks on developing students’ communicative abilities? This article covers a comparative analysis of the textbooks of the Lithuanian language, Nature science, Mathematics designed for primary school students. Quantitative research design was used and method was employed content analysis (Bitinas, 2008; Ferari et al., 2010; Kojanitz, 2009) of textbooks: Lithuanian language “Pupa”; Nature science “Gilė” and Mathematics “Riešutas” for the first-fourth grades. Total were analysed 32 textbooks. Provision made for sampling of texts, breakdown into constituent components, their categorization, encoding of text units under semantic categories, and interpretation of the contents categories. Drama activity was analysed under to semantic categories – to perform (lt. vaidinti) and to play (lt. žaisti); communicative abilities and activities were analysed under to sematic categories – reading, speaking and listening. Results of the textbooks analysis highlights the nature of the activities contained in to the textbooks and relationship with drama activities, and with development communicative abilities. It has been established in the textbooks, intended for the first through fourth grades, more attention is given to listening and speaking in first and second grades, while in third and fourth grades focus is replaced upon reading, listening and speaking. Analysis of textbooks has shown that pupils are given sufficient amount of activities that develop their communicative abilities, however, when doing analysis in terms of drama activities (semantic categories of the content), only but few drama activities have been identified. The results showed that the students’ communicative competence are most frequently developed in the class (in the textbooks) of the Lithuanian language and Natural sciences. Drama activities are used not always in a suitable manner, i.e. failing to take advantage of the opportunities provided by drama activities. Drama activities in textbooks normally are limited to reading of texts (in dialog) and, focusing upon memorization and reproduction of a text. It has been found out that textbooks also lack tasks associated with different kind of drama activities, there is shortage of learning resources fir to such activities, such as fairy tales, poems, small form folklore, etc.

This exploratory workshop examines the role that interdisciplinary STEM and mathematics programs can have to increase the number of certified teachers prepared to teach STEM classes from an interdisciplinary approach.

STEM Education through the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013–2025 (PPPM 2013–2025) is an important agenda in the transformation of education to prepare the younger generation for the challenges of the 21st century. Over the years, STEM was carried out, but there are still some issues which contribute towards the failure in achieving a policy percentage set of 60% science and 40% literary studies in secondary schools. The target to increase the number of Science students was not achieved. Therefore, this study was conducted to produce a STEM@IDEAS module as an alternative to increase students’ interest and understanding in solving the synopsis of learning in science, technology and mathematics (STEM). The module STEM@IDEAS focuses in competition design and generating prototype products through a variety of synopsis statements. STEM practices provide students with various trainings such as application of knowledge, skills and assessment to solve synopsis. This study has five (5) STEM practice steps and a total of three (3) modules which will be applied using the STEM elements. Furthermore, the STEM@IDEAS module was tested on several groups of four secondary school students around Pasir Gudang, Johor. A questionnaire was used to evaluate if STEM@IDEAS modules are in line with STEM and its impact on students. This survey uses a Likert scale of 0 to 4 to evaluate starting from 0 (strongly disagree) up to 4 (strongly agree) for each question submitted in each section. The STEM@IDEAS module and the above study are expected to be a source of interest and an alternative way for schools to support the nation’s education policy in strengthening the education development plans towards the nation’s progress.

The article deals with the conceptual provisions of innovative pedagogical technology of teaching mathematics to primary school students «Daily 3», which considers students' interest in mathematics, developing their skills of independence, ability to work in a team and communicate by engaging in various activities. Theoretical principles of conducting mathematics independently, mathematics with a friend and mathematics writing are revealed. The generalized algorithm of conducting «Daily 3» is given and the structure of such lesson is presented. Factors that prevent the full implementation of the technology «Daily 3» in Ukrainian primary schools are analyzed. The optimal way of future primary school teachers training for realization of this technology is offered. It consists in considering within the discipline «Methods of teaching the educational field of mathematics» its elements, and while studying the discipline of free choice «Methods of teaching mathematics: technological approach» detailed disclosure of didactic and methodological foundations of mathematics independently, mathematics with a friend and mathematics in writing.

Project GREEN (Garden Resources for Environmental Education Now!) is an educational tool to assist in the teaching of environmental education at the elementary school level. Project GREEN is different from many current educational practices because its major goal is to provide an interdisciplinary approach to environmental education by infusing activities centered around a hands-on tool, “the garden.” The main goal of this project included evaluating whether students participating in Project GREEN were developing positive environmental attitudes. Three schools throughout Texas participated in the study. Approximately 200 students were evaluated; 100 participants served as the experimental group and 100 non-participants served as the control group. Students were evaluated using the Children's Environmental Response Inventory (CERI), which measures students' attitudes about nature and human dominance over nature. This questionnaire also contained a section for biographical information. Comparisons were made between the experimental and control groups, as well as between gender, age, ethnicity, and time in the garden. Results examine the relationship between the garden program and environmental attitudes for both control and experimental groups.

Research was triggered by the low level of achievement or learning outcomes to learning mathematics in primary school.It is also based on the results of observation, that there are known problems that constrained the success of learning mathematics in primary school, one of which is the low student learning outcomes and mathematics which are less attractive to students.The purpose of this research is to improve the result of primary school students learn math class II on any material multiplication by uses the method drill.Research methods that were used in this research was research methodology the act of class by comparing the increase in learning outcomes of a boy before and after applied a method of drill as many as two breeding cycles research.The research was conducted in SDN Cibeber 1 in the Kecamatan area South Cimahi, the City Cimahi. The results of this study were an increase in student mathematics learning outcomes in the multiplication material by 52.2% after the drill method was applied. Thus, it can be concluded that the drill method can help improve mathematics learning outcomes in the multiplication material of grade II SD students.
