This study was conducted to investigate the ameliorative effect of lactic acid bacteria Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus acidophilus against Potassium bromate (25, 50) mg / kg toxicity  by some physiological indicators in 35 of female rats after 21 days. The animals were divided into 7 groups within each group 5 animals weighted 140 – 155 g. The results showed a significant decrease (P<0.05) in value of Red blood cells (RBC), hemoglobin (Hb), White blood cells (WBC), Lymphocyte (LYM) and Platelets (PLT), While increasing the values of Granules (GRN). Also found that the addition of Potassium bromate Potassium bromate led to increase in cholesterol, triglyceride (TG), Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and blood glucose, while decreased the values of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) for rats groups with  increasing the concentration of Potassium bromate compared with control group. The addition of two types of lactic acid bacteria L. casei and L. acidophilus  with Potassium bromate showed a positive effect to reducing the negative effect of  Potassium bromate on blood and lipid profile parameters compared with the control group and Potassium bromate group. It is concluded that the lactic acid bacteria has protective effects and reduces the effects that Potassium bromate.

The effect of oral dosing of bacterial suspension of two types of lactic acid bacteria belonging to the genus lactobacilli that locally isolate on some biochemical and physiological criteria of female rats blood were studied. Three isolates of L. bulgarious and three isolates of L. delbeakli were obtained from the laboratories at the college of educationBreeding/university of Tikrit. Bacterial suspension given as a single oral dose of 2 ml(13 x 108 cell \ ml) for seven day. The results showed no significant changes P≥0.05 in at the blood physiological variables, especially hemoglobin (Hb) , packed cell volume (PCV) ,and total number of white blood cells (WBCs) , while there were significant reduction in the blood biochemical variables, particularly the level of cholesterol, and glucose, but there was no significant effect on some liver enzymes, compared with the values and the results of a group of control animals.

The present study investigates the antidiabetic potential of polyphenol extracts purified from guava pulp, seeds and leaves using an in vivo experiment on albino rats. The polyphenols from guava pulp, seeds and leaves were extracted using methanol solvent and the sonication method while being evaluated by total phenolic contents and radical scavenging activity assay. The proximate composition of powders revealed that ash, protein and total sugars were significantly (p < 0.05) higher in leaves and seeds, while vitamin C was highest in pulp. Total phenolic and antioxidant activities were highest in pulp followed by leaves and seeds. The findings of feed intake and body gain revealed that the supplementation of polyphenols, especially from pulp, significantly (p < 0.05) increased the feed intake, which resulted in increased body weight. Moreover, total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels were significantly (p < 0.05) decreased, while the level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) was increased in groups fed with polyphenols from guava pulp compared to both (+ive and –ive) control groups. Furthermore, blood glucose and triglycerides were significantly (p < 0.05) decreased in supplemented groups compared to the control group of diabetes mice, which resulted in the inhibition of α-amylase and glucose transport. Besides this, packed cell volume (PCV), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), hemoglobin, red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs) and platelet levels were increased significantly (p < 0.05) in pulp’s extract followed by leaves and seeds compared to both control groups. Overall, the antidiabetic potential of different extracts was in the following order: pulp > leaves > seeds. The findings suggest the feasibility of adding 200–250 mg/kg.bw of polyphenol extracts of pulp as an alternative to diabetic drugs.

The goal of this study to investigate the effects of Nigella sativa (Ns) oil on reproductive values, some hematological parameters serum biochemical characteristics, some sexual hormones concentration and histological changes of treated and normal male reproductive organs. The experiment (1) dealt with 20 males and 20 female rats at 21 days of age, 10 rats of each sex were giving orally Ns oil at the rate of 1ml/kg/day for 30 days and the others left as a control group. Insignificant changes were occurred in hematological parameters except the white blood cells (WBCs), were significantly increased in treated groups (P<0.05). The treated groups showed significant increases in total protein and significant decreases in total cholesterol liver enzymes markedly increased in treated rats Significant increases in the levels of LH, FSH and testosterone for males and LH, FSH, estrogen and progesterone for females were recorded. The experiment (2) dealt with effects of Ns oil on 20 adult males and 20 adult female rats that were given same dose of Ns oil for 30 days. There were significant increase in litter size and weight of rats born in treated groups. The experiment (3) dealt with the effects of Ns oil on castrated males fifteen adult rats were divided equally into 3 groups, two groups were castrated while, the third group was left as a control group; one castrated group was treated with same dose of Ns oil for 30 days, there were significant increases in serum testosterone concentration and weight of accessory glands in treated group. Histological changes in the accessory glands of treated groups were evident.In conclusion, the administration of 1ml/kg/day of Ns oil stimulated the secretion of sexual hormones that led to improve protein synthesis of hepatic enzymes, white blood cells count and decrease the serum cholesterol concentration in blood

Traditionally pirdot leaves are used to treat various diseases. The purpose of this study was to determine determine the potential for acute toxicity of ethanolic extract of pirdot leaf (Saurauia vulcani Korth.) with value LD50 and hematological Parameters in rats. The acute toxicity of ethanolic extract of pirdot leaf was evaluated by OECD guidelines. The number of animals used in this research were 15 female rats. The control group was given Na CMC 0.5%, the treatment groups were given ethanolic extract of pirdot leaves with doses 2000 and 5000 mg/kg bw. The results showed that ethanolic extract of pirdot leaves with doses of 2000 and 5000 mg/kg bw did not show any toxicity signs. There was no mortality was observe. The ethanolic extract of pirdot leaves did not cause any changes in hematological parameters, these include red blood cells (RBC), hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), platelet, white blood cells (WBC), neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils levels as compared to normal control (P>0.05). It was estimated that LD50 of ethanolic extract of pirdot leaves was higher than 5000 mg/kg bw and the extract were practically non-toxic. The ethanolic extract of pirdot leaves did not cause any toxic effect on hematological parameters.

Hardening of cheese is one of major issues that degrade the quality of Home Meal Replacement (HMR) foods containing cheese such as Cheese-ddukbokki rice cake (CD, stir-fried rice cakes with shredded cheese). The quality of cheese, such as pH, proteolytic, and flavor properties, depends on various lactic acid bacteria (LAB) used in cheese fermentation. The hardening of cheese is also caused by LAB. In this study, various LAB strains were isolated from CD samples that showed rapid hardening. The correlation of LAB with the hardening of cheese was investigated. Seven of the CD samples with different manufacturing dates were collected and tested for hardening properties of cheese. Among them, strong-hardening of cheese was confirmed for two samples and weak-hardening was confirmed for one sample. All LAB in two strong-hardening samples and 40% of LAB in one weak-hardening sample were identified as Latilactobacillus curvatus. On the other hand, most LAB in normal cheese samples were identified as Leuconostoc mesenteroides and Lactobacillus casei. We prepared cheese samples in which L. curvatus (LC-CD) and L. mesenteroides (LM-CD) were most dominant, respectively. Each CD made of the prepared cheese was subjected to quality test for 50 days at 10 °C. Hardening of cheese with LC-CD dominant appeared at 30 days. However, hardening of cheese with LM-CD dominant did not appear until 50 days. The pH of the LC-CD was 5.18 ± 0.04 at 30 days, lower than that of LM-CD. The proteolytic activity of LC-CD sample was 2993.67 ± 246.17 units/g, higher than that of LM-CD sample (1421.67 ± 174.5 units/g). These results indicate that high acid production and high protease activity of L. curvatus might have caused hardening of cheese.

This study aimed to evaluate the growth, survival rate, and resistance to acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) of white leg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) by using Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus fermentum, and Pediococcus pentosaceus mixed with feed, and at the same time supplying CNP in a ratio of 15:1:0.1 to the water. As a result, the treatments that shrimp were fed with feed containing lactic acid bacteria (LAB), especially L. plantarum, have increased shrimp growth, total hemocyte cells, granulocyte cells, and hyaline cells significantly (p < 0.05) in comparison to the control group. The supply of CNP to the water has promoted the intensity of V. parahaemolyticus effects on shrimp health and significantly decreased total hemocyte cells, granulocyte cells, and hyaline cells by 30–50% in the period after three days of the challenge, except in L. plantarum treatment, which had only a 20% decrease compared to other treatments. In CNP supplying treatments, the AHPND infected rate and mortality of shrimp were higher than those in other treatments. In summary, the supply of CNP had significantly reduced the shrimp’s immune response and promoted the susceptibility of shrimp to AHPND in both cases of use with and without LAB-containing diets.

Vitamin B2, also known as riboflavin, is essential for maintaining human health. The purpose of this study was to isolate novel lactic acid bacteria that overproduce vitamin B2 and to validate their potential as probiotics. In this study, Lactobacillus plantarum HY7715 (HY7715) was selected among lactic acid bacteria isolated from Kimchi. HY7715 showed a very high riboflavin-producing ability compared to the control strain due to the high expression of ribA, ribB, ribC, ribH, and ribG genes. HY7715 produced 34.5 ± 2.41 mg/L of riboflavin for 24 h without consuming riboflavin in the medium under optimal growth conditions. It was able to produce riboflavin in an in vitro model of the intestinal environment. In addition, when riboflavin deficiency was induced in mice through nutritional restriction, higher levels of riboflavin were detected in plasma and urine in the HY7715 administration group than in the control group. HY7715 showed high survival rate in simulated gastrointestinal conditions and had antibiotic resistance below the cutoff MIC value suggested by the European Food Safety Authority; moreover, it did not cause hemolysis. In conclusion, HY7715 could be considered a beneficial probiotic strain for human and animal applications, suggesting that it could be a new alternative to address riboflavin deficiency.

WhenL. caseiC 2 andL. caseiC 5 were grown in milk in whichStr. cremoris924 had been previously grown, 94 and 64%, respectively, of the citrate was utilized after 7 days at 30°C.Cheeses were made using a citrate-fermenting and a non-citrate-fermenting starter and citrate concentrations of the milks, wheys and curds were determined during cheese-making. WithStr. cremoris924, citrate was preferentially retained in the curd at pressing, the concentration in the curd moisture being 2·9 times that in the whey. With the mixed starterStr. cremoris924/Str. diacetilactis1007, the curd at pressing and from the press contained only 27 and 5%, respectively, of the citrate present in theStr. cremoriscurd at these times.Cheeses were made usingStr. cremoris924, combinations ofStr. cremoris/Str. diacetilactis1007, or with δ-gluconic acid lactone instead of starter, with and without the addition ofL. caseiC 5, in order to examine the ability of the latter organism to produce ‘blowing’ in the sense of distension of the Cryovac wrapping of film-wrapped cheeses.L. caseiC 5 neither accelerated the decrease in cheese citrate nor produced blowing of the film-wrapping. Abstract Objectives Several studies have established the ethnobotanical benefits of Pupalia lappacea (PL) in laboratory animals without extensive toxicological evaluation of its safety profiles. Thus, an extensive toxicological investigation of sub-chronic oral administration of the hydroethanol leaf extract of P. lappacea in rodents was carried out in this study. Methods Different groups of rats were treated orally with the extract (10, 50 and 250 mg/kg) daily for 90 consecutive days. The control group received distilled water (10 mL/kg). After 90 days, some rats were left for additional 30 days without treatment for reversibility study. Blood and organs samples were collected for different evaluations at the end of study periods. Results The extract decreased the bodyweights, feeding and water intakes in female rats. PL increased the weights of the liver and kidney in male rats. PL increased the red blood cell (RBC), packed cell volume (PCV), hemoglobin (Hb), triglycerides (TRIG), cholesterol and high density lipoprotein (HDL) contents in rats. PL (250 mg/kg) significantly reduced the sperm motility and serum testosterone level. Cyto-architectural distortions of the testes, liver and spleen were visible. Conclusions The findings showed that P. lappacea is relatively safe at lower doses but cautions should be taken at higher dose.
