pp. 81-90

The article deals with a thematic analysis of religiously-marked phraseological units (RMPU) that reflect Religious World Picture (RWP), an inseparable constituent of both conceptual and linguistic world pictures. The selection of phraseological units is premised by two criterions, namely, etymological aspect and the presence of a religious component. Throughout data collection process in the focus of our interest have been only phraseological units that etymologically can be traced back to the Bible and phraseological units with religious components that bear semantic reference to religious entities. The classification embraces the notions, such as universally recognized religious values, ritually-ceremonial patterns and dogmas, supernatural conceptions, moral values reflecting personal, intellectual and social characteristics of an individual. Each group, in turn, is divided into a number of subgroupings.

This article reviews the data collection process. This process is of crucial importance because data offer empirical answers to theoretical research questions. Although the literature provides a wealth of instruction on the treatment of already collected data, far less has been written about the selection of the data. The present view focuses on this overlooked portion of research methodology. An actual illustration is used to demonstrate the factual decisions and procedures that may be used in any data collection process.

Classification and identification of synthetic flavor become routine activities in the flavor and food industry due to its application. As a modern olfactory technology, electronic nose (e-nose) has the possibility to be applied in these activities. This study aimed to evaluate an e-nose for classifying synthetic flavors. In this study, an e-nose was designed with an array of gases sensors as the main sensing component and principal component analysis (PCA) for the pattern recognition software. This research was started with preparation of the hardware, continued with preparation of sample, data collection, and analysis. There were nine samples of synthetic flavors with different aroma, namely: grapes, strawberry, mocha, pandanus, mango, jackfruit, orange, melon, and durian. The data collection process includes three stages, i.e. flushing, collecting, and purging of 2 min, 3 min, 2 min respectively. These sensor responses were then analyzed for forming aroma patterns. Four pre-treatment methods were applied for the aroma pattern formation: absolute data, normalize of absolute data, relative data, and normalize of relative data. With the PCA for evaluation, the results showed that the absolute data treatment provided the best results, indicated from the distribution of aroma patterns that were grouped according to the type of samples.

Among the multiple lines of research that have as their object the name of a person, one of the least studied is the one related to the motivations present in the selection of the first name. Certain factors influencing data collection and the inability to know the true reasons for the choice from the most accessible sources complicate these studies. In the present work, the interview and the questionnaire are explored, within the multiple sources, as fundamental ways to obtain data on the motivations and references used. As a result of previous research and the considerations raised in this article, a motivational classification of first names based on the structure - referent relationship is proposed. This classification was applied to a small corpus of names, obtaining favorable results.
