Background: Clinical instructors have a very important role in the learning process of nursing students, especially in clinical areas such as hospitals. The purpose of this study was to identify nursing students’ perceptions about effective clinical characteristics. Method: This research was conducted at the Adventist University of Indonesia with a descriptive, correlation design. The sample used was 152 nursing students taken randomly. The instrument used was the Effective Clinical Instructor Characteristics Inventory (ECICI) consisting of 40 questions, divided into three sections, namely professional competence (28 questions), relationships with students (8) questions and self-attributes (12) questions. Data collection was conducted from June to July 2019. Result: The results obtained indicate that the characteristics of effective clinical instructors are Communicate effectively; breaks down content in a down-to-earth manner; Friendly attitude; Respect student as an individual; Open-minded, objective, non-judgmental. The t-test results showed that there were differences in perceptions between male and female students with a sig value of 0.046 (<0.05). Conclusions: It is hoped that the results of this study can provide input to staff and faculty in improving or enhancing the characteristics of effective clinical instructors. It is necessary to orient the new clinical instructor about the characteristics that need to be improved. This study investigated sleep deprivation and academic performance on nursing students of University of Calabar. A self-structured instrument was administered to a sample of 109 students. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. Most, 55(50.5. %) of the respondents start depriving themselves of sleep immediately after resumption. On school days, most 53 (48.6%) respondents sleep for 1&ndash;3 hours on average; while 40(36.7%) respondents sleep for 4&ndash;6 hours on average. During weekends most, 69(63.3%) respondents sleep for 4-6 hours on average, however, during examinations, majority 73(67. %), sleep for 1&ndash;3 hours on average. 64(58.6%) take different substances to keep awake. More male 69(63.3%) respondents start depriving themselves of sleep immediately after resumption, as against 50(46%) female respondents. Male students have an average sleep of 5.02 hours during schools days; 5.07 hours during weekends, and 2.39 hours during examinations, while female students have an average sleep of 5.25 hours during schools days, 5.43 hours during weekends, and 4.77 hours during examinations. Male students have a lower mean (SD) hours of sleep of (4.16&plusmn;.35) compared to female students mean (SD) hours of (5.15&plusmn;.49). The result further showed a statistically significant relationship between sleep deprivation and academic performance, also, a statistically significant influence of sleep deprivation on academic performance of male and female nursing students. Recommendations: nursing students should be properly counseled on the importance of adequate sleep to their academic performance. They should only deprive themselves of sleep during school days and less during examination.

The sex-role orientation of 20 male and 48 female nursing students at an urban community college was assessed by the Bern Sex-role Inventory. Sex and sex-role orientation were not significantly associated, and no significant difference was found between male and female students on a geometric mean estimate of androgyny. No support was found for Bern's theory of sex-role orientation. Results are discussed in terms of sample-specific features of the subjects.

RESUMOEstudo exploratório e descritivo, de abordagem quantitativa, cujo objetivo foi identificar opiniões de estudantes do Curso de Enfermagem da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco sobre os preservativos masculino e feminino. A população foi constituída por 427 estudantes de ambos os sexos e a amostra, do tipo intencional, por 88 estudantes do 1º ao 7º período do Curso, que responderam um questionário com 10 assertivas de múltiplas escolhas, após aprovação do projeto de pesquisa pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa do Centro de Ciências da Saúde, em 2003. Os dados foram organizados, analisados e apresentados em tabelas, procedendo à discussão com a literatura pertinente. Quanto aos resultados, houve predominância de estudantes do sexo feminino (92,0%) em detrimento do masculino (08,0%); em ambos os sexos, 45,4% encontravam-se na faixa entre os 17 aos 20 anos, 88,6% eram solteiros e 11,4% casados; 22,7% estavam no primeiro período do Curso, ao passo que 13,6% no sétimo. Com relação à opinião sobre os preservativos, 31,2% dos estudantes e 30,8% das estudantes opinaram em favor que o preservativo masculino diminuía o prazer sexual; 08,9% dos estudantes opinaram que era mais seguro usar dois preservativos masculinos durante as relações sexuais enquanto que nenhuma das estudantes opinou; 06,1% dos estudantes opinaram que, por medida de segurança, deveriam ser usados os preservativos masculino e feminino ao mesmo tempo durante as relações sexuais; 78,7% dos estudantes e 76,5% das estudantes opinaram contra, que os preservativos não precisavam ser usados com quem se ama. Mediante estes resultados, urge a necessidade para que sejam implantadas oficinas educativas que possam atender as necessidades de educação no exercício da sexualidade destes jovens, de maneira sistemática, ao se considerar uma proposta pedagógica interativa, que os conduzam a prevenção e promoção de saúde com mudanças de atitudes em relação aos preservativos e adesão às práticas sexuais seguras. The results had evidenced that predominated the students of the feminine sex (92,0%) in detriment of the masculine ones (08,0%); in both, 45,4% of them were between 17 and 20 years old, 88,6% were single and 11,4% married; 22,7% were in the first period of Course and 13,6% in the seventh ones. Regarding to the opinion on the condoms, from the 48 answers, 31,2% of the male students and 30,8% of the female students agreed in favor of the male condom diminishing the sexual pleasure; 06,1% of the male students answered that by security both condoms should be used at the same time whereas none of the female students thought; 78,7% of the students and 76,5% of the female students had thought against, that the condoms did not need to be used with who loves. By means of these results, urges the necessity so that educative workshops are implanted in order to supply the necessities of education in the sexuality exercise of these youngs in systematic way of considering a proposal pedagogical interactive, that the prevention and the promotion of health with changes of sexual behaviors lead them, attitudes regarding to the condoms and adhesion to practical the sexual insurances are elaborated. Por medio de estos resultados, se elabora la necesidad para implantar talleres educativos para proveer las necesidades de la educación en el ejercicio de la sexualidad de estos jóvenes de la manera sistemática de considerar una oferta interactivo pedagógico, que la prevención y la promoción de la salud con los cambios de comportamientos sexuales los conducen, de las actitudes en lo referente a los condónes y de la adherencia a práctico seguras sexuales. Background: Perception consists of personal opinion in relation to an object. In terms of aesthetics, perception normally differs from one individual to another based on several factors such as gender. When expressing emotion, a smile is the most important facial expression whose aesthetics are constructed from a number of components, including gingival display. Purpose: This study aimed to establish the comparative perceptions of the smile aesthetics of male and female dental students based on their gingival display. Methods: 36 dental students, divided equally according to gender, were enrolled in this study. Photographic images of the smile of each subject were taken from a frontal direction with a Canon EOS 700D digital camera and subsequently printed. Assessments were conducted by comparing the photographs of subjects from the perspective of smile references based on the gingival display, followed by subject scoring on the basis of smile classification. Assessments were conducted twice within a two-week period to confirm test reliability. The data collected was analyzed by means of kappa statistic and U-Mann Whitney tests. Results: The test results indicated that all subjects demonstrated a coincidence in their analysis (κ=0.84). Statistical analysis showed that a score of 0.902 (p>0.05) had been produced by a U-Mann Whitney test. Conclusion: It can be concluded that no difference exists between male and female students in the perception of smile aesthetics based on the gingival display.

The impact of metacognitive awareness on students’ performance has been examined in the present study. 900 students of grade X participated in the study.  Metacognitive awareness was measured using inventory, while performance of students was measured with the help of researcher made test in the subject of chemistry.  Results indicated that metacognitive awareness was significantly correlated with the performance of students.  The highly metacognitively aware science students performed well on the test.  Results further indicated that there was no significant difference in the metacognitive awareness of male and female students.

Background: The role of the clinical instructor is very important in clinical learning process that preparing students to become health workers who are competent in the practical environment. Effective clinical instructor is instructor who has profesional competence, interpersonal relationships, personality characteristics, and teaching skills in the process of providing guidance. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between clinical instructor characteristics and the score of pregnancy care clinical skills and analyze the most influenced characteristics of clinical instructor in the score of pregnancy care clinical skills in students of the Akademi Kebidanan Sari Mulia in Banjarmasin City.Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with 11 clinical instructors and 25 Sari Mulia Midwifery Academy students using total sampling. This study used a Nursing Effectiveness Clinical Teacher Inventory questionnaire (NCTEI) questionnaire as instrument.Results: There is a relationship between clinical instructor characteristics and the score of pregnancy care clinical skills in students, namely interpersonal relationships (p = 0.043) and personality characteristics (p = 0.024). The dominant factor associated was personality characteristics (POR = 4.4; IK 95%: 1.02-19.08) with a value of p = 0.048.Conclusion: From this study, it can be concluded that the interpersonal relationships and personality characteristics can enhance the role of clinical instructor in the clinical learning process and personality characteristics represent the clinical instructor characteristics that are most in line with the score of pregnancy care clinical skills.

The use of personal digital assistants (PDAs), hand-held devices and/or IPod Touches, is becoming widespread in the health care field. Many medical and nursing schools require their students to purchase a PDA prior to the beginning of their classes. PDA’s can carry information directly to the patient’s beside for instant retrieval of information. What does this mean to nursing students and clinical instructors? It means that up-to-date information is available to the student and clinical instructor in seconds, as opposed to searching for a reference book only to find it is outdated and 10 to 15 minutes of valuable time lost. This study identified associate degree nursing students’ use and application in the clinical using PDAs. Results of this study indicated that associate degree nursing students are very satisfied with the use of PDAs in the clinical setting. This study was funded by the Ohio University Regional Faculty Research Fund.

Abstract Background Clinical instructors have an important role in advancing nursing students to achieve the program objectives. Nursing student perceptions about the characteristics of an effective clinical instructors may help programs improve clinical instruction. As such, the purpose of this study was to understand the characteristics perceived by students to define an effective clinical instructor. Methods In this qualitative descriptive study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students. The sample was purposefully selected. MAXQDA software was used for the content analysis. The codes were organized into subcategories and consolidated into categories. Results Data saturation was reached with twelve participants, including seven women and five men, between 21 and 36 years of age. General and special characteristics were the two main categories that emerged from the data. These categories were defined by nine subcategories including internal motivation, professional acceptability, clinical competency, teaching skill, clinical experience, values, being a faculty member, appropriate appearance, and communication skills. Conclusions Effective clinical instructors have a specific characteristics identified by student. The most important characteristics of effective clinical instructors were related to communication and teaching skills, internal motivation, and professional appearance. More research is necessary to determine the relationship between the characteristics, instructor competency, and student learning outcomes.

This study aims to compare EuroFit test results of 11-17-year-old males and females in Kosovo. 742 students were included in the study. 347 females and 395 males were determined by random selection from the schools in urban and rural areas of all regions. Kosovo's general population rate (52% male 48% female) was considered when determining the proportion of male and female students. Anthropometric characteristics including height, weight, and Body Mass Index (BMI) of students and the motoric characteristics including the values obtained from the tests such as flamingo balance, plate tapping, sit and reach, standing broad jump, handgrip strength, sit-ups (30 sec), bent arm hang, 10x5m shuttle run and 20 m endurance were compared. As a result, there was no statistically significant difference between the anthropometric characteristics of male and female students in adolescence; however, it was observed that as the age increased, males became heavier and taller than females (p<0.05). In general, while there was no statistically significant difference between males and females in flamingo balance, plate tapping and sit and reach tests (p> 0.05), males were determined to be more successful than females in standing broad jump test, handgrip strength test, sit-ups (30 sec) and 20 m endurance tests (p<0.05). It is observed that students in Kosovo are more successful than the other countries regarding motoric tests such as the anthropometric characteristics, which are thought to be more related to genetics, and speed/agility of arms and legs. On the other hand, they are unsuccessful in comparison with other countries with regard to flexibility and endurance in tests which are thought to be influenced by factors such as lifestyle, nutrition, and training.

Introduction Clinical supervision is a crucial aspect of developing nursing students' knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes. The characteristics of clinical instructors have a significant role in the progress and transition of students into their future professional roles. Objective The study aimed to examine the behaviors of effective clinical instructors as perceived by nursing students and faculty members in the UAE. Methods The study followed a cross-sectional quantitative research design to explore nursing students' and faculty members' perceptions of clinical instructors' effective behaviors that facilitate students' clinical practice. Data were collected from a convenience sample of 147 nursing students and 17 faculty members who completed an online version of the study survey at four nursing programs in the UAE. Results Students rated personality ( M = 4.96, SD = 1.91) and teaching ability ( M = 4.94, SD = 1.96) as the highest behaviors for effective clinical instructor. They perceived effective clinical instructor to be organized ( M = 5.19, SD = 1.88), shows self-confidence ( M = 5.16, SD = 1.84), able to answer questions ( M = 5.16, SD = 1.90), emphasizes what is crucial to learn ( M = 5.11, SD = 1.81), and takes responsibility for his/her actions ( M = 5.11, SD = 1.90). While faculty members perceived effective clinical instructor to encourage a climate of mutual respect ( M = 5.56, SD = 1.27), be approachable ( M = 5.47, SD = 1.32), demonstrates clinical skill and judgment ( M = 5.53, SD = 1.46), takes responsibility for his/her actions ( M = 5.53, SD = 1.37), and be a good role model ( M = 5.47, SD = 1.32). Conclusion Understanding clinical instructors' effective behaviors and supporting them during students' clinical experiences inspire a productive teaching-learning environment that is crucial to improve students' motivation, expand their learning opportunities and improve their hands-on skills.
