Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park (TLTAR) is a marine park established under the Establishment of Marine Parks Malaysia Order 1994 of the Department of Fisheries to conserve marine resources and develop tourism. It consists of five islands, namely Manukan Island, Mamutik Island, Sapi Island, Sulug Island, and a portion of Gaya Island. The marine park has an area of 4,929 hectares, of which two-thirds are submerged. The purpose of the study is to investigate the characteristics of tourist attractions and tourism infrastructure in TLTAR, Sabah. The study involved 249 respondents, including locals who have visited TLTAR. The majority of respondents (71.5%) were male, 75.5% were under 30 years old, 68.7% were single, and over 50% had secondary education. The results of this study revealed that there were three main attractions that attracted visitors to TLTAR, which included the beauty of the beach and water surrounding it, the peaceful island environment, and recreational activities such as snorkelling, scuba diving, and picnicking. The island environment, particularly its beach, and the safety of the island, particularly perceived threats from certain parties and crimes, are also a few factors that need to be addressed in order for visitors to continue visiting TLTAR. In terms of the level of tourism infrastructures, the findings indicate that the recreational facilities, boat services, and jetty provided are better than those offered by others in Malaysia. The findings of the study are important for policymakers and marine park development planners in ensuring more sustainable tourism management and creating enjoyable and satisfaction for all visitors.

AbstractThe municipality of Bahía Solano possesses important tourist attractions. The majority of them consist of natural wonders such as whale, dolphin and bird watching. Its marine area offers diving courses, all types of fishing, surfing, other water sports etc. The enormous amount of natural wealth stands in contrast to the lack of local development and the high rate of poverty among its inhabitants. Bahía Solano has enviable tourist professions but a low level of competition. This research proposes a methodology of social innovation, elaborated by researchers, that involves nature, communities and tour operators, where a connection of surveys with the expectations and perceptions of the different entities (inhabitants, tourists, and tour operators) has been obtained.

Tourist maps are designed to direct tourists to tourist attractions in unfamiliar areas. A well-designed tourist map can provide tourists with sufficient and intuitive information about places of interest. Thus, providing up-to-date information on places of interest and selecting their representative icons are fundamental and important in automatic generation of tourist maps. In this article, approaches for determining places of interest and for determining their representative icons are introduced. In contrast to general digital tourist maps that use text, simple shapes, or three-dimensional models, we use photos that offer abundant visual features of places of interest as icons in tourist maps. The photos are automatically extracted from a repository of photos downloaded from photo-sharing communities. Tourist attractions and their corresponding image icons are determined by means of photo voting and photo quality assessment. Qualitative analyses, including a user study and experiments in several areas with numerous tourist attractions, indicated that the proposed method can generate visually pleasant and elaborate tourist maps. In addition, the analyses indicated that the map produced by our method is better than maps generated by related methods and is comparable to hand-designed tourist maps.

This article presents the results of a review of the literature on tourism from 2005 to 2009. Precisely, 1,648 articles were reviewed and classified into eight macro-lines of research. The content of the Strategy macro-line was analyzed in greater depth, as it was considered to be an "umbrella" for the other dimensions pertinent to tourism. The literature thus provided significant elements confirming the appropriateness of the strategic network perspective for research on sustainable tourism management, and it also helped identify the actors that are most critical for leading the development of a tourist destination.
