THE STAGE OF UNDERSTANDING MALAY LANGUAGE OF THE PAKISTANI STUDENTS: THE INFLUENCE OF INTEREST, CHARACTER, MOTIVATION AND SURROUNDING FACTOR
Malay language teaching quality and efficiency are very important in ensuring the control and use of the Malay language in the context of education. There are several factors affecting the mastery of Malay as a second language. This is because, in language learning, students often face problems in understanding something that is explained by the teacher in the language being learned as a second language. Recognizing this, a study was done on the understanding mastery of Malay as a second language students. This study aims to identify the influence of interests, attitudes, motivation, and the environment on the understanding of the Malay language proficiency of students. This study uses quantitative and qualitative methods involving 6 Pakistani’s students in a secondary school in Bintulu, Sarawak. Among the methods used are using questionnaires, observations, and documentation review. The findings show effective factors such as interest, attitudes, motivation, and environmental factors are closely related in influencing the level of understanding of Malay students.
