It is well known that the level at which the performances in the sports competitions have come lately is also due to the improvement of the specific techniques by: studying the most intimate / hidden aspects of the running technique that provide insight into the level of influence of the muscle chains involved in each phase of the movement; knowledge of the biomechanical details that can improve the technique of the general run and the departures from the start. It is assumed that participation in high-performance competitions is possible by restructuring the training efforts during the annual training cycle, using increased proportionate efforts in the mixed and anaerobic area as well as the approach as a separate indicator of the compensatory effort, and in this restructuring an essential role could be played by the technical aspect of long runs. When we discuss the technique of athletics, we must consider two aspects which, depending on how well they are improved, influence the final result. This is the sample technique and the treadmill technique.

Market trends indicate the distance running event industry is facing a running recession. Since 2013, consumer demand has declined annually while supply increased. The current research provides insight into why running as a recreational activity is declining and implications for organized events’ utility. Based on seven years of participants’ postevent surveys from a long-distance running event, the value placed on hedonic, symbolic, and lifestyle features of running (i.e., running involvement) is gradually declining, which corresponds to a decline in annual event participation. Results are based on analyses of both a time series of cross-sections (N = 23,790) and a panel of multiyear respondents (n = 461). Also, there are gender differences in the rates at which running involvement declined. These results shed light onto a sociopsychographic explanation for the declining levels of running event participation and general interest in running.

Summary The purpose of the study was to identify and analyze the occurrence of cathartic states in a sample of long-distance runners. Data collected via questionnaires were used to evaluate quantitative variables complemented by heuristics while aiming at qualitatively categorize the areas of cathartic states in the context of philosophical and spiritual aspects of long-distance running. The study findings objectify philosophical and spiritual aspects affecting personalities of long-distance runners. The study findings have shown that catharsis represents a relevant philosophical and spiritual aspect affecting long-distance running. We assume that authentic experience of catharsis and its effects motivates runners to perform regular physical activity. The analysis of philosophical and spiritual aspects of long-distance running has revealed a multi-spectral holistic relevance based on the transfer affecting a specific way of life, spectrum of values, ethical personality traits, and also the quality of long-distance runners’ lives.
