The IoT systems are growing field of automation. In contrast to industrial applications, where the system is custom made for each customer or use case, the home IoT systems can be composed and used in many, sometimes dangerous and unpredictable, ways. This paper presents a system that is based on a common ontology as a unified and universal method of representing the environment including humans. Such approach allows for easy integration of heterogenous devices and declarative definition of services, tasks, and rules ensuring human safety and/or comfort.

Summary An accurate description of the microemulsion-phase behavior is critical for many industrial applications, including surfactant flooding in enhanced oil recovery (EOR). Recent phase-behavior models have assumed constant-shaped micelles, typically spherical, using net-average curvature (NAC), which is not consistent with scattering and microscopy experiments that suggest changes in shapes of the continuous and discontinuous domains. On the basis of the strong evidence of varying micellar shape, principal micellar curves were used recently to model interfacial tensions (IFTs). Huh's scaling equation (Huh 1979) also was coupled to this IFT model to generate phase-behavior estimates, but without accounting for the micellar shape. In this paper, we present a novel microemulsion-phase-behavior equation of state (EoS) that accounts for changing micellar curvatures under the assumption of a general-prolate spheroidal geometry, instead of through Huh's equation. This new EoS improves phase-behavior-modeling capabilities and eliminates the use of NAC in favor of a more-physical definition of characteristic length. Our new EoS can be used to fit and predict microemulsion-phase behavior irrespective of IFT-data availability. For the cases considered, the new EoS agrees well with experimental data for scans in both salinity and composition. The model also predicts phase-behavior data for a wide range of temperature and pressure, and it is validated against dynamic scattering experiments to show the physical significance of the approach.

The publication deals with the development of a structural model of payment schemes for ecosystem services (PES) oriented to usage of forests for water, soil and microclimate quality improvement. Proposed structural model is built on the Meta analyses base of more than 50 PES schemes worldwide. The proposed structural model has three top down levels – groups of categories, categories and attributes. There are seven groups of categories, 17 categories and more than 120 attributes. The structured information about studied PES schemes is stored in a warehouse managed by unique web platform created by the authors. An important part presented study is the developed generic use case of PES schemes with definition of seven participated actors.

The generation and design of the service architecture of an information system is complex. It depends more on the vision of the service than on the vision of the service inside an information system. An information system is indeed a system of services that can contain thousands of services. The lack of consideration of constraints imposed by the information system makes it difficult to reuse these services. Another strong constraint is that an information system service must support a business service. The proposed approach allows information system services to be generated in accordance with the business services specification and their logical architecture to be automatically designed by respecting a logical architecture pattern of the system-of-services. An information system services generation algorithm allows being consistent with the logical architecture pattern during this generation. The definition of coherence and coupling properties makes it possible to evaluate the relevancy of the system-of-services. A use case shows the value of these properties in making the logical architecture of the service system more relevant to business services.

The internet of things plays an important role of connecting numerous physical devices and automating them to create human’s life easier. By exploitation sensors, actuators and numerous software package therefore we are able to connect objects and transfer information. Today government has created priority to create cities good across the country. To create a town good, we've to try and do numerous things that may be developed exploitation net of things and good parking is one in all them. With the event of road infrastructure, there's a big increase in variety of personal vehicles which ends in hold up, directly effecting the flow of traffic, and lifetime of voters. Parking becomes a big downside within the urban areas. The analysis paper proposes a wise parking system to unravel the present parking downside at reasonable value. The projected smart Parking system consists of associate on-the-scene preparation of associate IOT module that’s custom-made monitor and signalizes the state of convenience of each single automobile car parking zone. A mobile page is to boot providing permits associate user to see the availability of automobile car parking zone and book a parking slot consequently. Towards the tip, the complete projected system shows the operative of the system in kind of a use case that proves the correctness of the projected model.

Purpose This paper aims to propose a set of quantitative statistical indicators for measuring the scientific relevance of research groups and researchers, based on high-impact open-access digital production repositories. Design/methodology/approach An action research (AR) methodology is proposed in which research is associated with the practice; research informs practice and practice is responsible for informing research in a cooperative way. AR is divided into five phases, beginning with the definition of the problematic scenario and an analysis of the state of the art and ending with conducting tests and publishing the results. Findings The proposed indicators were used to characterise group and individual output in a major public university in south-eastern Mexico. University campuses hosting a large number of high-impact research groups. These indicators were very useful in generating information that confirmed specific assumptions about the scientific production of the university. Research limitations/implications The data used here were retrieved from Scopus and open access national repository of Mexico. It would be possible to use other data sources to calculate these indicators. Practical implications The system used to implement the proposed indicators is independent of any particular technological tool and is based on standards for metadata description and exchange, thus facilitating the easy integration of new elements for evaluation. Social implications Many organisations evaluate researchers according to specific criteria, one of which is the prestige of journals. Although the guidelines differ between evaluation bodies, relevance is measured based on elements that can be adapted and where some have greater weight than others, including the prestige of the journal, the degree of collaboration with other researchers and individual production, etc. The proposed indicators can be used by various entities to evaluate researchers and research groups. Each country has its own organisations that are responsible for evaluation, using various criteria based on the impact of the publications. Originality/value The proposed indicators assess based on the importance of the types of publications and the degree of collaborations. However, they can be adapted to other similar scenarios.

When it comes to the evaluation of natural language systems, it is well acknowledged that there is a lack of common evaluation methodologies, making the fair comparison of such systems a difficult task. Many attempts to standardize this process have used a quality model based on the ISO/IEC 9126 standards. The authors have also used these standards for the definition of a weighted quality model for the evaluation of a medical speech translator, showing the relative importance of the system's features depending on the potential user (patient or doctor, developer). More recently, ISO/IEC 9126 has been replaced by a new series of standards, the 25000 or SQuaRE series, indicating that the model should be migrated to the new series in order to maintain compliance adherence to current standards. This chapter demonstrates how to migrate from ISO/IEC 9126 to ISO 25000 by using the authors' previous work as a use case.

On becoming a commodity, Microgrids (MGs) have started gaining ground in various sizes (e.g., nanogrids, homegrids, etc.) and forms (e.g., local energy communities) leading an exponential growth in the respective sector. From demanding deployments such as military bases and hospitals, to tertiary and residential buildings and neighborhoods, MG systems exploit renewable and conventional generation assets, combined with various storage capabilities to deliver a completely new set of business opportunities and services in the context of the Smart Grid. As such systems involve economic, environmental and technical aspects, their performance is quite difficult to evaluate, since there are not any standards that cover all of these aspects, especially during operational stages. Towards allowing an holistic definition of a MG performance, for both design and operational stages, this paper first introduces a complete set of Key Performance Indicators to measure holistically the performance of a MG’s life cycle. Following, focusing on the MG’s day-to-day operation, a data-driven assessment is proposed, based on dynamic metrics, custom made reference models, and smart meter data, in order to be able to extract its operational performance. Two different algorithmic implementations (i.e., Dynamic Time Warping and t-distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding) are used to support the methodology proposed, while real-life data are used from a small scale MG to provide the desired proof-of-concept. Both algorithms seem to correctly identify days and periods of not optimal operation, hence presenting promising results for MG performance assessment, that could lead to a MG Performance Classification scheme.

AbstractObjective:To create a system for the uniform registration and classification of complications and failures in cochlear implant surgery, and apply it to all the patients who underwent implantation in our clinic.Method:The definition of a medical complication was established, and data for all cochlear implantations performed between 1987 and 2012 were entered into a custom-made database system.Results:One or more medical complications were registered in 19.0 per cent of 1003 cochlear implantations. The incidence of ‘hard failure’ was 2.3 per cent. Findings revealed a decrease in device failures over the years; the rate of medical complications remained constant.Conclusion:Our database system, which is available free of charge, enables fast and accurate data entry. There were a relatively high number of (minor) complications in our series, but comparison with the relevant literature is difficult. This emphasises the need for a uniform definition of ‘complication’ as it relates to cochlear implant surgery, and an appropriate classification system for such complications.
