Internet of things is one of the emerging technologies in the world. Through which we can generate a large network among the tiny devices to communicate with each other to develop environmental and ecological resources. Most of the smart technology devices are designed by IoT network of devices. By connecting these devices that help to interact with each other and to collect and transfer data over the internet. The IoT devices working speed and their performance have improved by introducing a device called a sensor. The idea of IoT devices with sensors that sense the data and make smart decisions in the environment. This paper makes it clear about the benefits of IoT devices over technology in the modern environment. The sensors in IoT devices are connected to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and RFID etc. to collect useful data. By connecting devices over the network, the world will become smart and thus it evolves the smart environment including smart homes, smart buildings and smart cities. It is believed that about 30 billion people in the world will use at least one IoT technology devices by the year 2020. To maintain our environment safe and secure the IoT devices play a major role in several enabling technologies. This paper is to present the applications of IoT in smart cities and the environment and a brief explanation about their uses.

The large deployment of the Internet of Things (IoT) is empowering Smart City tasks and activities everywhere throughout the world. Items utilized in day-by-day life are outfitted with IoT devices and sensors to make them interconnected and connected with the internet. Internet of Things (IoT) is a vital piece of a smart city that tremendously impact on all the city sectors, for example, governance, healthcare, mobility, pollution, and transportation. This all connected IoT devices will make the cities smart. As different smart city activities and undertakings have been propelled in recent times, we have seen the benefits as well as the risks. This paper depicts the primary challenges and weaknesses of applying IoT innovations dependent on smart city standards. Moreover, this paper points the outline of the technologies and applications of the smart cities.

From keeping track of an individual’s health, to suggesting meals from items available in an individual’s fridge, these technologies are taking a much larger role in the personal lives of their users. With this in mind, how is security being considered in the development of these technologies? Are these devices that monitor individual’s personal lives just additional vectors for potential data theft? Throughout this survey, various approaches to the development of security systems concerning IoT devices in the home will be discussed, compared, and contrasted in the hope of providing an ideal solution to the problems this technology may produce.

We are in the era of Industry 4.0 with the world going towards everything, everywhere, and anytime with “things” being enablers of technology. Our world is becoming smarter with everything (mobile phones, cars, TVs) connected to each, having unique addresses and communication mechanisms. It is foreseen that by 2025 every little thing, like pen, paper, food packages, etc., would be operated over the internet by internet of things (IoT) towards a smarter world. However, in order to enable the smart world to be sustainable, IoT should be embarking into energy efficient (green) paradigms. Since IoT is also a key enabler for smart cities, a green-aware design of smart cities could see a potential to create a green IoT ecosystem for smart cities. This ecosystem would comprise the green IoT lifecycle, the six pillars of smart cities, and focusing on the green infrastructure, green applications, and green energy. This conceptual study would motivate researchers embarking into smart city projects and keeping green concepts intact in their design and implementations.

Recent years have seen the rapid adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, where billions of physical devices are interconnected to provide data sensing, computing and actuating capabilities. IoT-based systems have been extensively deployed across various sectors, such as smart homes, smart cities, smart transport, smart logistics and so forth. Newer paradigms such as edge computing are developed to facilitate computation and data intelligence to be performed closer to IoT devices, hence reducing latency for time-sensitive tasks. However, IoT applications are increasingly being deployed in remote and difficult to reach areas for edge computing scenarios. These deployment locations make upgrading application and dealing with software failures difficult. IoT applications are also increasingly being deployed as containers which offer increased remote management ability but are more complex to configure. This paper proposes an approach for effectively managing, updating and re-configuring container-based IoT software as efficiently, scalably and reliably as possible with minimal downtime upon the detection of software failures. The approach is evaluated using docker container-based IoT application deployments in an edge computing scenario.


The future of Internet of Things (IoT) is already upon us. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the ability to provide everyday devices with a way of identification and another way for communication with each other. The spectrum of IoT application domains is very large including smart homes, smart cities, wearables, e-health, etc. Consequently, tens and even hundreds of billions of devices will be connected. Such devices will have smart capabilities to collect, analyze and even make decisions without any human interaction. Security is a supreme requirement in such circumstances, and in particular authentication is of high interest given the damage that could happen from a malicious unauthenticated device in an IoT system. While enjoying the convenience and efficiency that IoT brings to us, new threats from IoT also have emerged. There are increasing research works to ease these threats, but many problems remain open. To better understand the essential reasons of new threats and the challenges in current research, this survey first proposes the concept of “IoT features”. Then, the security and privacy effects of eight IoT new features were discussed including the threats they cause, existing solutions and challenges yet to be solved.

The evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) has augmented the necessity for Cloud, edge and fog platforms. The chief benefit of cloud-based schemes is they allow data to be collected from numerous services and sites, which is reachable from any place of the world. The organizations will be benefited by merging the cloud platform with the on-site fog networks and edge devices and as result, this will increase the utilization of the IoT devices and end users too. The network traffic will reduce as data will be distributed and this will also improve the operational efficiency. The impact of monitoring in edge and fog computing can play an important role to efficiently utilize the resources available at these layers. This paper discusses various techniques involved for monitoring for edge and fog computing and its advantages. The paper ends with a case study to demonstarte the need of monitoring in fog and edge in the healthcare system.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a scenario in which objects, animals or people are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. IoT has evolved from the convergence of wireless technologies, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and the Internet. With IoT, devices typically gather data and stream it over the Internet to a central source, where it is analyzed and processed.
