It is a regular practice in the oil industry to modify mechanical equipment to incorporate new technologies and to optimize production. In the case of pressure vessels, it is occasionally required to cut large openings in their walls in order to have access to the interior part of the equipment for executing modifications. This cutting process produces temporary loads, which were obviously not considered in the original mechanical design. Up to now, there is not a general purpose specification for approaching the assessments of stress levels once a large opening in a vertical pressure vessel has been made. Therefore stress distributions around large openings are analyzed on a case-by-case basis without a reference scheme. This work studies the distribution of the von Mises equivalent stresses around a large opening in FCC Regenerators during internal cyclone replacement, which is a frequently required practice for this kind of equipment. A finite element parametric model was developed in ANSYS, and both numerical results and illustrating figures are presented.

As the key component to transmit power and torque, the fault diagnosis of rotating machinery is crucial to guarantee the reliable operation of mechanical equipment. Regrettably, sample class imbalance is a common phenomenon in industrial applications, which causes large cross-domain distribution discrepancies for domain adaptation (DA) and results in performance degradation for most of the existing mechanical fault diagnosis approaches. To address this issue, a novel DA approach that simultaneously reduces the cross-domain distribution difference and the geometric difference is proposed, which is defined as MRMI. This work contains three parts to improve the sample class imbalance issue: (1) A novel distance metric method (MVD) is proposed and applied to improve the performance of marginal distribution adaptation. (2) Manifold regularization is combined with instance reweighting to simultaneously explore the intrinsic manifold structure and remove irrelevant source-domain samples adaptively. (3) The ℓ2-norm regularization is applied as the data preprocessing tool to improve the model generalization performance. The gear and rolling bearing datasets with class imbalanced samples are applied to validate the reliability of MRMI. According to the fault diagnosis results, MRMI can significantly outperform competitive approaches under the condition of sample class imbalance.

The study of industrial volatile organic compound (VOC) emission inventories is essential for identifying VOC emission levels and distribution. This paper established an industrial VOC emission inventory in 2015 for Hebei Province and completed an emission projection for the period 2020–2030. The results indicated that the total emissions of industrial VOCs in 2015 were 1017.79 kt. The use of VOC products accounted for more than half of the total. In addition, the spatial distribution characteristics of the industrial VOC emissions were determined using a geographic information statistics system (GIS), which showed that the VOCs were mainly distributed the central and southern regions of Hebei. Considering the future economic development trends, population changes, related environmental laws and regulations, and pollution control technology, three scenarios were defined for forecasting the industrial VOC emissions in future years. This demonstrated that industrial VOC emissions in Hebei would amount to 1448.94 kt and 2203.66 kt in 2020 and 2030, with growth rates of 42.36% and 116.51% compared with 2015, respectively. If all industrial enterprises took the control measures, the VOC emissions could be reduced by 69% in 2030. The analysis of the scenarios found that the most effective action plan was to take the best available control technologies and clean production in key industries, including the chemical medicine, coke production, mechanical equipment manufacturing, organic chemical, packaging and printing, wood adhesive, industrial and construction dye, furniture manufacturing, transportation equipment manufacturing, and crude oil processing industries.

In allusion to the issue of rolling bearing degradation feature extraction and degradation condition clustering, a logistic chaotic map is introduced to analyze the advantages of C0 complexity and a technique based on a multidimensional degradation feature and Gath–Geva fuzzy clustering algorithmic is proposed. The multidimensional degradation feature includes C0 complexity, root mean square, and curved time parameter which is more in line with the performance degradation process. Gath–Geva fuzzy clustering is introduced to divide different conditions during the degradation process. A rolling bearing lifetime vibration signal from intelligent maintenance system bearing test center was introduced for instance analysis. The results show that C0 complexity is able to describe the degradation process and has advantages in sensitivity and calculation speed. The introduced degradation indicator curved time parameter can reflect the agglomeration character of the degradation condition at time dimension, which is more in line with the performance degradation pattern of mechanical equipment. The Gath–Geva fuzzy clustering algorithmic is able to cluster degradation condition of mechanical equipment such as bearings accurately.
