The need for high-quality communications networks is urgent in data-based farming. A particular challenge is how to achieve reliable, cost-efficient, secure, and broadband last-mile data transfer to enable agricultural machine control. The trialed ad hoc private communications networks built and interconnected with different alternative wireless technologies, including 4G, 5G, satellite and tactical networks, provide interesting practical solutions for connectivity. A remotely controlled tractor is exemplified as a use case of machine control in the demonstrated private communication network. This paper describes the results of a comparative technology analysis and a field trial in a realistic environment. The study includes the practical implementation of video monitoring and the optimization of the control channel for remote-controlled unmanned agricultural tractors. The findings from this study verify and consolidate the requirements for network technologies and for cybersecurity enablers. They highlight insights into the suitability of different wireless technologies for smart farming and tractor scenarios and identify potential paths for future research.

AbstractThe cabin of modern aircraft is subject to increasing demands for fast reconfiguration and hence flexibility. These demands require studies for new network architectures and technologies of the electronic cabin systems, which consider also weight and cost reductions as well as safety constraints. Two major approaches are in consideration to reduce the complex and heavy wiring harness: the usage of a so called hybrid data bus technology, which enables the common usage of the same data bus for several electronic cabin systems with different safety and security requirements and the application of wireless data transfer technologies for electronic cabin systems.

In chip-multiprocessors (CMP) architecture, the L2 cache is shared by the L1 cache of each processor core, resulting in a high volume of diverse data transfer through the L1-L2 cache bus. High-performance CMP and SoC systems have a significant amount of data transfer between the on-chip L2 cache and the L3 cache of off-chip memory through the power expensive off-chip memory bus. This paper addresses the problem of the high-power consumption of the on-chip data buses, exploring a framework for memory data bus power consumption minimization approach. A comprehensive analysis of the existing bus power minimization approaches is provided based on the performance, power, and area overhead consideration. A novel approaches for reducing the power consumption for the on-chip bus is introduced. In particular, a serialization-widening (SW) of data bus with frequent value encoding (FVE), called the SWE approach, is proposed as the best power savings approach for the on-chip cache data bus. The experimental results show that the SWE approach with FVE can achieve approximately 54% power savings over the conventional bus for multicore applications using a 64-bit wide data bus in 45 nm technology.

Electron crystallography is an emerging field for structure determination as evidenced by a number of membrane proteins that have been solved to near-atomic resolution. Advances in specimen preparation and in data acquisition with a 400kV microscope by computer controlled spot scanning mean that our ability to record electron image data will outstrip our capacity to analyze it. The computed fourier transform of these images must be processed in order to provide a direct measurement of amplitudes and phases needed for 3-D reconstruction. In anticipation of this processing bottleneck, we have written a program that incorporates a menu-and mouse-driven procedure for auto-indexing and refining the reciprocal lattice parameters in the computed transform from an image of a crystal. It is linked to subsequent steps of image processing by a system of data bases and spawned child processes; data transfer between different program modules no longer requires manual data entry. The progress of the reciprocal lattice refinement is monitored visually and quantitatively. If desired, the processing is carried through the lattice distortion correction (unbending) steps automatically.

A drug information system (DARIS) has been created for handling reports on suspected drug reactions. The system is suitable for being run on desktop computers with a minimum of hardware requirements: 187 K read/write memory, flexible or hard disc drive and a thermal printer. The data base (DRUG) uses the QUERY and IMAGE programming capabilities for data entry and search. The data base to statistics link program (DBSTAT) enables data transfer from the data base into a file for statistical analysis and signalling suspected adverse drug reactions. The operational, medical and statistical aspects of the general population voluntary adverse drug reaction monitoring programme—recently initiated in the State of Kuwait—are described.

SKK Migas plans to apply end-to-end security based on Web Services Security (WS-Security) for Sistem Operasi Terpadu (SOT). However, there are no prototype or simulation results that can support the plan that has already been communicated to many parties. This paper proposes an experiment that performs PRODML data transfer using WS-Security by altering the WSDL to include encryption and digital signature. The experiment utilizes SoapUI, and successfully loaded PRODML WSDL that had been altered with WSP-Policy based on X.509 to transfer a SOAP message.
