Abstract This chapter describes the procedures, characteristics, and applications for static hardness test methods. It addresses test methods that are state of the art, commonly used, or that may find increased use due to certain advantages. The methods addressed are Rockwell hardness testing (ISO 6508 and ASTM E 18), Vickers hardness testing (ISO 6507, ASTM E92, and ASTM E384), Brinell hardness testing (ISO 6506 and ASTM E10), and Knoop hardness testing (ISO 4545 and ASTM E284). The chapter also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of these test methods.

Abstract The local post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) process test of 9Cr-3W-3Co small-diameter pipe welded joints was carried out using rope-type resistance heaters with different parameters, and the Brinell hardness test and microstructure observation were carried out on the welded joints after heat treatment. The results show that when the heating width was 200mm, the constant temperature was 790°C-800°C, and the constant temperature time was 2 hours, the Brinell hardness of the weld was in the range of 246HBW-265HBW, which had good performance. After tempering at 760°C-800°C, the welds all showed a clear tempered lath martensite.

There is not much plastic welding currently done and not much research has been done on plastic welding. The purpose of this study was to study the use of welding variations used to join the thermoset polymer material. The thermoset polymer materials used are acrylic, melamine and bakelit with the test sample measuring 80mm in length, 30mm in width and 3mm in thickness. Variations in welding are used using hot gas welding, electric soldering and gas torches. The test method is carried out after welding to determine the porosity of the weld using a penetrant liquid. Hardness testing was also carried out. The best welding results are shown on acrylic material using electric solder, showing that the amount of porosity is the least, and has the highest hardness test.
