Kata Kunci : Demam Berdarah, Maya Index, pelatihan, pengendalian vektor   ABSTRACT Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) caused by Dengue virus could cause death. The most appropriate prevention of Dengue is eradication of mosquito nests (PSN). This study aims to determine the effect of Dengue vector control training on elementary students towards Maya Index in Majalengka. Method: This study used quasi-experimental design (pretest-posttest control group design). A total of 4 schools were selected as intervention groups and 4 other schools as controls. The subjects were students in grades IV-VI consisting of 171 students in the intervention group and 163 in the control group. The instrument used was periodic larva monitoring form. Results: The number of houses with a high Maya Index category in the intervention group decreased from 27.5% to 9.4%. There was a decrease in the high BRI category in the intervention group from 20.5% to 1.8%. In the control group, there was no decrease in the high BRI category (22.1%), on the contrary, there was a decrease in the low category from 34.4% to 3.7%. There was no decrease in HRI rates both of intervention or control groups. Conclusion: Dengue Fever vector control training could decrease the value of BRI and Maya Index, but does not affect the value of HRI. The absence of changes in HRI  indicate that environmental hygiene and sanitation are factors that influence the probability of dengue fever occurrence. Keywords: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, Maya Index, training, vector control

BACKGROUND Dengue fever is a major public health problem in Kerala. Vector control measures practiced at household level is the most cost-effective way of controlling dengue. This study aims to assess environmental measures of vector control practised among households of suspected or confirmed dengue patients in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. METHODS A cross sectional study was done among households of patients diagnosed with dengue fever and reported in Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) in Thiruvananthapuram district from June to December 2018. Investigators interviewed the household members and made direct observations to collect data on vector control practices using a structured questionnaire. RESULTS A total of 108 houses were surveyed. Potential breeding habitats were found in 58 (53.7 %) houses. Aedes larva was found in containers from four (3.7 %) houses. Dry day observance was not regular with only 5 (4.6 %) houses practicing it weekly. Waste management practiced was proper in 47 (43.5 %) houses. Community level pre monsoon preparedness for epidemics was done in the vicinity of 53 (49.1 %) houses and it was found to be a protective factor against presence of breeding habitats in and around houses (p = 0.013). Low education (p = 0.012) and low occupational status (p = 0.017) were found to be significant risk factors. CONCLUSIONS Even during an epidemic, with occurrence of infections in the family, only half of the households are practising adequate vector control methods. Community level interventions and targeted information education campaign will help improve practice of environmental methods of vector control in dengue. Background: Dengue fever in Tigo baleh Bukittinggi community is one of the infectious diseases resulting in serious health problems. Understanding the factors associated with the disease is necessity. Objective: To determine the relationships of the implementation of 3M plus program and the existence of Aedes aegypti larvae towards the number of dengue fever cases in the public health center of Tigo Baleh Bukittinggi, West Sumatera, Indonesia. Methods: This was a case control study conducted between January and December 2016 in the Public Health Center of Tigo Baleh Bukittinggi. There were 78 samples recruited by total sampling, with 39 were assigned in the case and control group. House index (HI) and Container index (CI) were used to measure the presence of Aedes aegypti larvae. The implementation of 3M plus program was measured using questionnaire developed by the researcher. Chi Square was performed for data analysis. Result: Findings showed that house index value was 43.6% and container index was 17.9%. The presence of larvae at home contributes to 24 (61.5%) cases of DHF in the case group and 10 (25.6%) cases in the control group. Poor implementation of the program contributes to 27 (69.2%) cases in the case group and 17 (43.6%) in the control group. Chi square test showed p 0.040 (0.05) for the 3M plus implementation and p 0.03 (0.05) for the presence of Aedes aegypti. Conclusion: There were significant associations between the implementation of 3m plus program and the existence of Aedes aegypti larvae towards the number of dengue fever cases in the public health center of Tigo Baleh Bukittinggi, West Sumatera, Indonesia. It is suggested that the community should do more efforts to prevent the occurrence of DHF through mosquito nest eradication, such as the implementation of 3M Plus and sanitation efforts, and pay attention to any places that potentially become a breeding ground for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
