Case study: Effect of visual and task conditions on the subjective evaluation of the sound environments inside running passenger cars

The effect of the additionally presented visual stimuli and driving task on the subjective evaluation of the sound inside running passenger car has been investigated through subjective evaluation test on the semantic differential method. The recorded video data and binaural sound data were simultaneously presented to the subjects by using the headphone and the head-mounted display. As a result of the evaluation test, the subjective impression of the interior sound greatly varied depending on the visual stimuli and the driving task. Especially in the situation that the LAeq of the interior sound is relatively low, the evaluated results are more strongly influenced by the visual stimuli and the driving task.

The difficulty in class student state recognition is how to make feature judgments based on student facial expressions and movement state. At present, some intelligent models are not accurate in class student state recognition. In order to improve the model recognition effect, this study builds a two-level state detection framework based on deep learning and HMM feature recognition algorithm, and expands it as a multi-level detection model through a reasonable state classification method. In addition, this study selects continuous HMM or deep learning to reflect the dynamic generation characteristics of fatigue, and designs random human fatigue recognition experiments to complete the collection and preprocessing of EEG data, facial video data, and subjective evaluation data of classroom students. In addition to this, this study discretizes the feature indicators and builds a student state recognition model. Finally, the performance of the algorithm proposed in this paper is analyzed through experiments. The research results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper has certain advantages over the traditional algorithm in the recognition of classroom student state features.

This paper is aimed at the problem that the subjective drivability evaluation by experienced test drivers is limited in time efficiency and is of high cost and poor repeatability. In this article, an intelligent drivability objective evaluation tool (I-DOET) for passenger cars with dual-clutch transmission (DCT) is developed and verified by real vehicle testing. First, the signal denoising method and its key parameters, which are suitable for drivability evaluation, are selected based on analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). Besides, combined with the uncertainty characteristics of subjective judgment, a mathematical model of the objective drivability evaluation FARODE (fuzzy AHP-RS based on objective drivability evaluation) is proposed by using the fuzzy comprehensive assessment (FCA) method. The AHP and rough set (RS) method are used to calculate the subjective and objective weights of the drivability evaluation, respectively, and the proportion of subjective and objective weights is determined by the principle of minimum relative information entropy. The fuzzy matrix is built by membership function of the evaluation indexes. Finally, the static gearshift condition focused on by the subjective evaluation experts is taken as a case study. The predictability score is obtained by combining the drivability quantization lever vector, comprehensive weight, and fuzzy matrix. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method is applicable for objective drivability evaluation in passenger cars with DCT.

In China, noise pollution from substations in urban areas is becoming more and more serious. An annoyance evaluation of the noise emitted by urban substations is presented. First, the subjective evaluation is conducted on the noise samples from urban substations via the semantic differential method. Subsequently, according to the typical characteristics of urban substation noise, 14 acoustical metrics are used to describe the noise samples for objective evaluation. Then the correlation analysis and regression analysis between the objective and subjective evaluation results are carried out. Finally, a regression model for urban substation noise evaluation is established. Practical application shows that the regression model can correctly predict the subjective annoyance of urban substation noise.

AbstractThe ventral part of lateral prefrontal cortex (VLPF) of the monkey receives strong visual input, mainly from inferotemporal cortex. It has been shown that VLPF neurons can show visual responses during paradigms requiring to associate arbitrary visual cues to behavioral reactions. Further studies showed that there are also VLPF neurons responding to the presentation of specific visual stimuli, such as objects and faces. However, it is largely unknown whether VLPF neurons respond and differentiate between stimuli belonging to different categories, also in absence of a specific requirement to actively categorize or to exploit these stimuli for choosing a given behavior. The first aim of the present study is to evaluate and map the responses of neurons of a large sector of VLPF to a wide set of visual stimuli when monkeys simply observe them. Recent studies showed that visual responses to objects are also present in VLPF neurons coding action execution, when they are the target of the action. Thus, the second aim of the present study is to compare the visual responses of VLPF neurons when the same objects are simply observed or when they become the target of a grasping action. Our results indicate that: (1) part of VLPF visually responsive neurons respond specifically to one stimulus or to a small set of stimuli, but there is no indication of a “passive” categorical coding; (2) VLPF neuronal visual responses to objects are often modulated by the task conditions in which the object is observed, with the strongest response when the object is target of an action. These data indicate that VLPF performs an early passive description of several types of visual stimuli, that can then be used for organizing and planning behavior. This could explain the modulation of visual response both in associative learning and in natural behavior.

For enhancing printing images quality so as to meet human visual needs, two ways of scanners clarity compensating by optical unsharp-mask and electronic second differential had been devoted based on investigating the cause of cut down on presswork definition produced by printing, the advantages of the twofold method which combine the two was also discussed in the thesis. The method of applying the technique was proposed in digital image processing. Tests had been done on standard images by the suggested method in Matlab, normal ways of USM and second differential were also used for comparing, printing proofs were made after manipulation for subjective evaluation on sharpening degree, statistic analysis on assessment data was also made, which shows that: the second differential method will bring the highest clarity on images with the side-effect of too heavy edges, USM can get relative mild margins and slightly lacking of distinct, the twofold method get preferable contour strengthen and smoothness, it can be used in printing image sharpening.

The fast evolution of technology has led to a growing demand for video data, increasing the amount of research into efficient systems to manage those materials. Making efficient use of video information requires that data be accessed in a user-friendly way. Ideally, one would like to perform video search using an intuitive tool. Most of existing browsers for the interactive search of video sequences, however, have employed a too rigid layout to arrange the results, restricting users to explore the results using list- or grid-based layouts. This paper presents a novel approach for the interactive search that displays the result set in a flexible manner. The proposed method is based on a simple and fast algorithm to build video stories and on an effective visual structure to arrange the storyboards, called Clustering Set. It is able to group together videos with similar content and to organize the result set in a well-defined tree. Results from a rigorous empirical comparison with a subjective evaluation show that such a strategy makes the navigation more coherent and engaging to users.

Effects of visual and auditory display enhancements to a pick-and-place task performed in an immersive virtual environment were evaluated to determine whether the enhancements may replace depth information provided by stereoscopic visual displays. Participants used a commercial head-mounted display, spatial trackers on the head and hand, and a control wand. Independent variables included biocular or stereo viewing, movement amplitude, target diameter, and audio or visual enhancements. Dependent variables were movement time and number of discrete movements required to complete the task. Results indicated the stereo display and the display enhancements provided no performance advantages over the biocular display for the easier task conditions. Further, visual and auditory enhancements to the biocular display were found that resulted in performance that was not different from using stereoscopic displays. Implications of the results are discussed.

The interior noise samples from four cars at different positions and different speeds were selected as the evaluation objects. The subjective evaluation test of sound quality preference was carried out with paired comparison method. Several objective psycho-acoustical parameters of these samples were calculated. By way of linear correlation and multi-dimensional regression analysis, an equation between the subjective evaluation of noise preference and the objective psycho-acoustical parameters was established. The results indicate that the vehicle interior sound quality preference under the good highway and the constant-velocity driving conditions is affected mainly by two psycho-acoustical parameters Loudness and Sharpness.
