Recently, the SARS-CoV-2 induced disease COVID-19 has spread all over the world. Nearly 20% of the patients have severe or critical conditions. SARS-CoV-2 exploits ACE2 for host cell entry. ACE2 plays an essential role in the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system (RAAS), which regulates blood pressure and fluid balance. ACE2 also protects organs from inflammatory injuries and regulates intestinal functions. ACE2 can be shed by two proteases, ADAM17 and TMPRSS2. TMPRSS2-cleaved ACE2 allows SARS-CoV-2 cell entry, whereas ADAM17-cleaved ACE2 offers protection to organs. SARS-CoV-2 infection-caused ACE2 dysfunction worsens COVID-19 and could initiate multi-organ failure. Here, we will explain the role of ACE2 in the pathogenesis of severe and critical conditions of COVID-19 and discuss auspicious strategies for controlling the disease.

AbstractIntegrated coastal management (ICM) programmes are being planned, formulated and implemented in coastal States all over the world. To date, however, ICM has been seen as more in the realm of policy-makers, managers, scientists, coastal resource economists, and others, rather than in the realm of lawyers. This article reveals how law and lawyers should play an absolutely essential role at all stages of the ICM process. Ideally, ICM legal consultants will have a broad range of knowledge and experience in both international legal treaties as well as in certain fundamental national law principles, so that coastal zone policies will be designed and carried out with a critical understanding of the laws and institutions needed for the long-term success of an integrated coastal management programme.

Since December 2019, a novel beta coronavirus has spread around the world. This virus can cause severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). In this study, we reviewed proteases of SARS-CoV-2 based on related articles published in journals indexed by Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar from December 2019 to April 2020. Based on this study, we can claim that this coronavirus has about 76% genotype similarity to SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV). Also, similarities between these two viruses have been found in the mechanism of entry into host cells and pathogenicity. ACE 2, the angiotensin convertase enzyme 2, plays a role in the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone system (RAAS) and blood pressure regulation. Some mechanisms have been reported for the role of ACE 2 in the pathogenicity of SARS-CoV-2. For example, the interaction between the ACE 2 receptor and spike protein mediated by TMPRSS2, Cathepsin B/L, and other enzymes is responsible for the entry of the virus into human cells and pathogenicity. Some host cell endosomal enzymes are necessary to cleavage coronavirus spike protein and cause binding to their common receptor. So, we conclude that molecules like antibodies or small molecules like ACE 2 antagonists and soluble ACE 2 can be used as a good therapeutic candidate to prevent SARS-CoV-2.

The role of the renin-angiotensin system in drinking induced by water deprivation and caval ligation was assessed by infusion of saralasin into the lateral ventricles of rats. This technique was first validated by demonstrating its capability to specifically antagonize drinking to both systemic and central angiotensin II. However, neither the latency to drink nor the amount of water consumed following 24- or 30-h water deprivation was affected by saralasin. Furthermore, saralasin had no significant effect on the recovery of blood pressure or on the water intake following ligation of the abdominal vena cava. These observations suggest that the renin-angiotensin system alone does not play an essential role in the control of drinking following water deprivation or caval ligation in rats.

Taizé’s music comes from an ecumenical monastic order with an intense devotion to peace and justice through prayer and meditation. It was founded by Brother Roger Louis Schütz-Marsauche in 1940 in the French village of Taizé and later spread throughout the world. Now the Taizé community is also growing in Indonesia, especially in the city of Yogyakarta. The Taizé community introduced its model of worship consisting of prayer, music, and meditation. The Taizé community entered Indonesia through Ursuline nuns’ work, and some of them later chose Taizé music as their worship accompaniment. In Yogyakarta, Taizé music is being used formally in adoration worship, namely The Holy Hour Worship by the Congregational Scholastic Congregation of SCJ Yogyakarta. Simultaneously, an ecumenical community called DNTZ Yogyakarta sings Taizé music in ecumenical fellowship activities. These are voluntary activities which are performed at different places and open for public. These two models of Taizé music in Catholics and Protestants communities have become a unique phenomenon as both communities play an essential role in its development by helping each other and working together in harmony.

Bmal1 is an obligatory core clock gene that is ubiquitously expressed but has been demonstrated to have tissue specific functions. However, the vascular smooth muscle specific function of bmal1 is unknown. We generated a smooth muscle specific bmal1 knockout mouse model (SM-bmal1-ko) and investigated the role of bmal1 in vascular smooth muscle contraction and blood pressure regulation. Isometric contractions were measured in isolated right renal artery and 2 nd order branch of mesenteric artery helical strips. Blood pressure was monitored in conscious free-moving mice using radiotelemetry. We demonstrated that bmal1 was selectively deleted in smooth muscle enriched tissues like mesenteric arteries. Moreover, the diurnal variations of bmal1 target genes per1/2 were abolished in mesenteric arteries. The isometric contractions in response to alpha1 agonist phenylephrine and to 5-HT were significantly diminished in vascular helical strips isolated from SM-bmal1-ko mice compared to that from control flox mice. The contractile diurnal variations detected in the renal arteries isolated from control flox mice were significantly diminished in samples isolated from SM-bmal1-ko mice. Moreover, in vivo , the diurnal variations in the instantaneous pressor responses to intravenous phenylephrine injection were significantly diminished in SM-bmal1-ko mice compared to control flox mice. Twenty four hour mean arterial blood pressure was significantly decreased under 12:12 light:dark, constant light or constant dark conditions. Importantly, the amplitude of blood pressure diurnal variations was significantly diminished in SM-bmal1-ko mice. Importantly, neither the level nor the diurnal variations of locomotor activity was affected by bmal1 deletion. This indicates that the central SCN clock function is not affected in the SM-bmal1-ko mice and the blood pressure alterations in SM-bmal1-ko mice is not a consequence of changed locomotor activity. Taken together, our results demonstrate an essential role of bmal1 in the diurnal variations of vascular smooth muscle contraction and blood pressure.

Members of the tetraspanin family have been identified as essential cellular membrane proteins in infectious diseases by nearly all types of pathogens. The present review highlights recently published data on the role of tetraspanin CD151, CD81, and CD63 and their interaction partners in host cell entry by human cytomegalo- and human papillomaviruses. Moreover, we discuss a model for tetraspanin assembly into trafficking platforms at the plasma membrane. These platforms might persist during intracellular viral trafficking.

Objective: Nowadays, many countries all over the world are involved with COVID-19 and the number of new cases and deaths are on a rise. The role of emergency medicine and physician-led triage is important in this period. We report some near missed cases in our academic center related to this pandemic. Case Presentation: We report 5 cases that missed triage or received delayed diagnosis because of COVID-19 suspicion. Some cases are life threatening. Conclusion: Although COVID-19 is the main health concern these days, other critical conditions should be considered. Stabilizing patients before transferring them between hospitals should be the essential goal of emergency department whether the patient is Corona virus infected or not. And before any intervention, the safety of healthcare workers must be ensured.

Hypertension or increased blood pressure is a degenerative disease with a high prevalence, as well as the biggest cause of premature death in the world. Meanwhile, coffee is a popular and most consumed beverage around the world. Coffee can harm some people with certain health problems including hypertension due to its caffeine content. Decaffeinated coffee is known to be an alternative for people with hypertension with reduced caffeine content up to 97%. However, studies on the role of decaffeinated coffee in reducing the risk of hypertension are still varied indicating that a systematic review is needed. Hence, this study summarizes the evidence related to the role of decaffeinated coffee in reducing the risk of hypertension by using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The inclusion criteria for scientific journals were determined based on Participants, Intervention, Control, and Outcome (PICO). The search using boolean operation resulted in 13 research articles for data extraction. The result revealed that decaffeinated coffee could decrease or did not give any effect on blood pressure or another biological hypertension marker compared to regular coffee.
