Even though recent studies designate that sustainability should be integrated in project management, this integration remains a complex issue. Hence, there is a need to develop a new approach that would assess the organizational sustainability and reveal to what extent sustainable project management practices are effective. The aim of this research is to propose a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis-based method to assess the integration of the sustainability philosophy in large-scale organizations via the utilization of sustainable project management-related indicators. By utilising the proposed approach to compare internal organizational structures, the researchers aim to reveal the sustainability integration level within different business units, in order to allow organizations to make decisions toward sustainable practices. The indicators used in the proposed model are related to key aspects of organizations and they measure how the departments’ staff utilize sustainable project management processes in their construction projects. The case study was conducted in a market-leading design, engineering, and project management consultancy organization. Evaluating organizational sustainability can help organizations target their efforts in certain areas (enhancing sustainable outcomes). It can also facilitate data collection, analysis, and future projections.

Start-ups are only in the initial life cycle phases, which exposes them to many specific challenges and increases threats of business cessation. Because of their youth, the do not yet have formal organizational structures and operating rules. This also applies to the area of project management. In this chapter, the authors deal with the success of start-ups' projects and the characteristics of their project management culture. Although the success of projects and project management culture is relatively often discussed in the literature, it is generally done in the context of large companies, not start-ups. The research has shown that projects represent a large part of the start-ups' businesses, and that there is a significant high awareness of the importance of project preparation and the definition of objectives, as well as a caution in defining the roles and organization. In these companies we can notice quite a coherence with the principles of learning organizations, especially the importance of learning from experiences and transferring knowledge among the participants in the project.

In the field of engineering and construction, unqualified construction quality, time delays, cost more than expected phenomena to occur. Because of these characteristics such as its large-scale construction projects, long cycle, the production of single and complex, there is greater risk than the production of general products, the risk increases the difficulty of construction project management, operating costs and the possibility of potential losses, therefore, risk management emerged and become an increasingly important integral part of project management. In this paper, fuzzy analytic hierarchy be used to construction project risk assessment, and to order the sort of each risk in order to prevent significant risks. On an actual project - the new stadium construction in Weifang City risk management case study, the reduction of risk of project failure is expected, but also the project is hoped for other industries to provide some reference for risk management.

Construction projects require a significant amount of money and other resources in order to carry them out in an effective way. Cost control is a critical step in ensuring the success of the project and increasing its value. Nowadays, the large-scale application of BIM technology has ushered a technical change in the development of construction projects, which has greatly increased the level and efficiency of project management. Due to BIM technology, the construction engineering quality is significantly improved which really helped in obtaining the social and economic benefits. However, the BIM technology in our country is started relatively late and the technical force is not strong enough; then correspondingly, we must deal with many problems in the process of developing and using BIM technology based projects. In view of the fact and to address this issue, this paper establishes a three-dimensional architectural model based on the relevant information and data of the construction project using the BIM technology. The proposed model optimizes the clustering of construction project information data and adaptively configures the whole life cycle process of the construction projects. In addition, the performance of the proposed system has been compared and tested with the other systems as well which shows how good the proposed system is, as compared to the other systems. Further, the proposed model makes the artificial intelligence efficiency of the project management better. The simulation results show that the model not only has good access and query capabilities but also greatly improves the intelligence level of the project management.

At varying paces, governments are aggressively pursuing e-government strategies with the expressed objective of capturing the efficiency that ICTs can provide. However, more often than not these strategies are being implemented within the existing organizational structures and practices of governments, which can, by their nature, thwart rather than advance the objectives. This chapter examines some key aspects of organizational change required by governments to make their e-government strategies successful. The change imperative entails a hard look at many of the structures, processes, cultural issues and management practices prevailing within the public sector. This chapter identifies government success factors for several organizational entities involved in e-government and assesses the implications for organizational change on government structures, work practices and culture.

Organizations working towards standardization have defined universal standards for Best Management Practices (BMPs) for renewable energy (RE) projects. However, these universal standards are better suitedto large-scale than small-scale projects such as community renewable energy (CRE) projects. Methods used by CRE projects to achieve BMP status remain to be determined. This paper aims to present various aspects of BMPs for small-scale CRE projects by emphasizing practices that are unrestricted, simple, andadaptable to the surrounding environment, and that will eventually lead to sustainability in the commu-nity. The case study involves RE projects at the ‘Sathya Sai School Thailand,’ an education-based com-munity which has a community-like organizational management. The community implements CRE pro-jects for educational-awareness program and to serve their energy needs, starting with micro scale in the community which then will impact on the reduction of climate change crisis at global level. The methodologies used for initial assessment of the involvement of residents and stakeholders, attitude of residents towards CRE project management, and attitudes towards the benefits of CRE project management included (1) field research (i.e., field observations and key-person interviews) and (2) a preference questionnaire. The results identify strengths and weaknesses of CRE project management, and are used to evaluate whether CRE project management constitutes a BMPs by using ‘The scale and sustainability score sheet’ tool. Moreover, recommendations for CRE projects to achieve BMPs status for sustainable community RE are generated from synthesis of sustainability ratings of CRE project management and integration of BMPs theory with the gaps and weaknesses of CRE project management. In conclusion, solutions focus on ‘actual problem-based solving approach’, understanding CRE project management problems and sustained practices by community residents are at the core of BMPs. Experiences can be shared by exchanging RE knowledge among academic and professional networks, and this exchange may improve the suitability of REs in relation to dynamic changes in environmental conditions.

Modern technologies have a large-scale impact on the transformation of functions, tools and methods of management as well as managers' competencies, updating the question of what will management be like in the near future. The article presents an overview of the main management development trends, outlining the emerging management development paradigm in today’s digital age. The paper analyses the works of the leading foreign and Russian researchers in the field of management, as well as those selected by the keywords. In total, more than 100 publications aimed at identifying and theoretical understanding of management development trends in the digital economy were reviewed. It is shown that the concept of management in the digital era develops dynamically, but the contours of the emerging paradigm provoke professional discourse and experiments. The diversity of researchers' views on the future of management is systematized from the perspectives of organizational business models and strategic priorities of the companies, which seems to be the key aspects of management, ensuring a holistic perception of the business and showing the direction of its transformation in response to environmental challenges. Based on these findings, new requirements for the competencies of modern managers are given. It is also shown that well-known consulting companies introduce new complex indicators of effective companies’ management systems. The identified trends of the modern management development as well as the new competencies of managers, which could be of interest to the researchers and management practitioners, require further analysis, as technologies and management practices evolve.

Purpose Hard project management practices, based on strict planning and control, are traditionally applied in construction projects, although research frequently promotes the importance of teams for various project outcomes. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to examine the importance of hard project management and team motivation for process performance in construction projects. A hypothesis tested is that hard project management can impair process performance if team motivation is not promoted. Design/methodology/approach The paper presents and empirically tests a structural equation model, with and without a mediating link between hard project management and process performance, based on data from a survey of 2,175 respondents, representing contractors and clients involved in 109 Swedish construction projects. Findings The results confirm that hard project management is best conveyed through teams to enhance process performance. “Path analysis,” using the model with the mediating link, confirms that neglecting team motivation can significantly impair process performance. Research limitations/implications The data set provides unusually high representation of views of contractors and clients involved in diverse Swedish construction projects. Thus, the results have likely relevance in other project-based industries and/or national settings, but this possibility requires further investigation. Originality/value The findings show that team motivation is a key process performance factor; hard project management may indeed be important, but its effects will be enhanced by (and partially mediated through) team motivation. Thus, the findings have important theoretical and practical implications for the development of project management practices.
