Traditional Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods have now become outdated; therefore, most researchers are focusing on more robust hybrid MCDM models that combine two or more MCDM techniques to address decision-making problems. The authors attempted to create two novel hybrid MCDM systems in this paper by integrating Additive Ratio ASsessment (ARAS) with Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and Complex PRoportional ASsessment (COPRAS). To demonstrate the ability and effectiveness of these two hybrid models i.e., TOPSIS-ARAS and COPRAS-ARAS were applied to solve a real-time robot selection problem with 12 alternative robots and five selection criteria, while evaluating the parametric importance using the CRiteria Importance Through Inter criteria Correlation (CRITIC) objective weighting estimation tool. The rankings of the robot alternatives gained from these two hybrid models were also compared to the obtained results from eight other solo MCDM tools. Although the rankings by the applied methods slightly differ from each other, the final outcomes from all of the adopted techniques are consistent enough to suggest that robot 12 is the best choice followed by robot 11, and robot 4 is the worst one among these 12 alternatives. Spearman Correlation Coefficient (SCC) also reveals that the proposed rankings derived from various methods have a strong ranking relationship with one another. Finally, sensitivity analysis was performed to investigate the effects of weight variation and to validate the robustness of the implemented MCDM approaches.

Purpose – Robot selection is one of the critical decision-making tasks frequently performed by various industries in order to choose the best suited robot for specific industrial purposes. In recent marketplace, the number of robot manufacturers has increased remarkably offering a wide range of models and specifications; thus, robot selection has become indeed confusing as well as complicated task. Selection of an appropriate robot is a sensitive process; it may result massive letdown, if not chosen properly. Therefore, for unravel the selection problem; the purpose of this paper is to explore the preference ranking organization method for enrichment evaluation (PROMETHEE) II method. Design/methodology/approach – Apart from a large variety of robotic systems, existence of various multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) tools and techniques may create confusion to the decision makers’ in regards of application feasibility as well as superiority in performance to work under different decision-making situations. In this context, the PROMETHEE II method has been found as an efficient decision-making tool which provides complete ranking order of all available alternatives prudently, thus avoiding errors in decision making. Findings – In this context, the present paper highlights application potential of aforesaid PROMETHEE II method in relation to robot selection problem subjected to a set of quantitative (objective) evaluation data collected from the available literature resources. Advantages and disadvantages of PROMETHEE II method have also been reported in comparison to other existing MCDM approaches. Originality/value – The study bears significant managerial implications. Proper evaluation and selection of appropriate candidate robot would be helpful for the industries in order to improve product quality as well as to increase productivity. Proper utilization of resources could be ensured. Functioning would be accurate with reduced timespan. As a consequence, company can increase its profit margin in long run.

Material selection problem becomes an important issue in the material science field. It is important for design for mechanical, electrical, thermal, chemical et al. There are several influencing factors in the material selection process, and thus material selection problem is a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. Relative entropy measure can depict the closeness of the two systems, and then this paper will use it to develop an improved TOPSIS method for the material selection problem. Finally, a practical example is given to demonstrate that the proposed method is effective and feasible.

The problem of a warehouse location selecting which has a significant impact on logistics costs is an important decision problem based on the best choice of alternatives under multiple conflicting criteria. Multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods are used as a solution approach for the decision problems including several criteria. In this study, a new stochastic multi-criteria decision-making approach has been developed to solve the warehouse location selection problem (WLSP) in the stochastic environment which contains uncertain situations. In the proposed approach, the SAHP (Stochastic Analytic Hierarchy Process) method was used to calculate the weight of criteria, and the alternatives were ranked and evaluated by fuzzy MOORA (Multi-Objective Optimization by Ratio Analysis). The proposed approach is applied to warehouse selection problem of a supermarket chain located in Turkey. The results of the research indicated that A2 is the best alternative. It can be said that the proposed method can be applied to the real life problems because it found a suitable solution to the problem.

The procedure for choosing the organization managing the apartment building is regulated in detail by legislation. However, the law, formally conforming to market principles, leaves the owners of residential premises in the house without any reasonable selection criteria. The wrong choice of a management company is fraught not only with economic losses, but also with safe living. At the same time, the ratings proposed for state accounting or statistics cannot be applied by owners to select the best candidate, since they have other goals. The limited applicability of these ratings and criteria systems has been argued in the article, and also well-grounded approaches and a new system of criteria necessary to resolve the selection problem have been proposed.

Nowadays companies should respond and satisfy the customer needs effectively and quickly to establish a position in the competitive market. One of the ways of achieving these goals is the outsourcing their some manufacturing operations to contract manufacturers. Outsourcing manufacturing operation to contract manufacturers decreases the operational cost, increases the profit and provides the flexibility of production capability. So the selecting a contract manufacturer for a company is an important problem that must be dealt very carefully. This selection is influenced by quantitative and qualitative criteria and it is handled as Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) problem. In this paper, CRITIC (CRiteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation) and MAUT (Multi Attribute Utility Theory) methods are applied to the contract manufacturer selection problem. The weights of the contract manufacturer selection criteria are derived from CRITIC method whereas the complete ranking of the contract manufacturer alternatives are obtained by using MAUT. Finally the results are discussed.
