Coupling of ‘t Hooft’s determinant term is investigated in the framework of the three-flavor linear sigma model as a function of the chiral condensate. Using perturbation theory around the minimum point of the effective action, we calculate the renormalization group flow of the first field-dependent correction to the coupling of the conventional UA(1) breaking determinant term. It is found that, at low temperatures, mesonic fluctuations make the anomaly increase when the chiral condensate decreases. As an application, we analyze the effect at the zero temperature nuclear liquid–gas transition.

The ten nonleptonic weak decays K→2π, K→ 3π, KL→2γ, KS→2γ, KL→π02γ, are predicted for a chiral pole model based on the linear sigma model theory which automatically satisfies the partial conservation of axial current (PCAC) hypothesis. These predictions, agreeing with data to the 5% level and containing no or at most one free parameter, are compared with the results of chiral perturbation theory (ChPT). The latter ChPT approach to one-loop level is known to contain at least four free parameters and then predicts a KL→π0γγ rate which is 60% shy of the experimental value.

AbstractIn this paper, we consider two-flavor QCD at zero temperature and finite isospin chemical potential $$\mu _I$$ μ I using a model-independent analysis within chiral perturbation theory at next-to-leading order. We calculate the effective potential, the chiral condensate and the pion condensate in the pion-condensed phase at both zero and nonzero pionic source. We compare our finite pionic source results for the chiral condensate and the pion condensate with recent (2+1)-flavor lattice QCD results. Agreement with lattice results generally improves as one goes from leading order to next-to-leading order.

We show that the β-function of N = 2 superconformal models perturbed by a slightly relevant chiral superfield does not have non-trivial IR fixed points to all orders in perturbation theory.
