A moving meshing algorithm with mesh adaptive size function was proposed in this paper with regard to the modeling speed and solution accuracy of electromagnetic equipment in the optimization design process. In the proposed method, a mesh size function that considers curvature, feature size, and distance gradient restrictions is constructed, which can obtain high quality meshes and avoid excessive iteration; when the finite element mesh domain is deformed, only the mesh nodes close to the moving boundary are allowed to move, and the theory of force-balance is used combined with the second-order boundary projection algorithm to perform iterative optimization of the mesh node positions. The proposed method has the advantages of keeping the original mesh structure and minimum mesh deformation as well as speed up the convergence, save time in the finite element meshing, and ensure the quality of the generated mesh. Then, the proposed method was applied to a 37 kw motor for electromagnetic analysis, and the results obtained proved the accuracy of the algorithm; finally, the effectiveness of the mesh movement algorithm in three-dimensional space was tested by moving the sphere inside the cylinder.

The analysis of the design and technological features of the tail boom (ТB) of a helicopter made of polymer composite materials (PCM) is carried out.Three structural and technological concepts are distinguished - semi-monocoque (reinforced metal structure), monocoque (three-layer structure) and mesh-type structure. The high weight and economic efficiency of mesh structures is shown, which allows them to be used in aerospace engineering. The physicomechanical characteristics of the network structures are estimated and their uniqueness is shown. The use of mesh structures can reduce the weight of the product by a factor of two or more. The stress-strain state (SSS) of the proposed tail boom design is determined. The analysis of methods for calculating the characteristics of the total SSS of conical mesh shells is carried out. The design of the tail boom is presented, the design diagram of the tail boom of the transport category rotorcraft is developed. A finite element model was created using the Siemens NX 7.5 system. The calculation of the stress-strain state (SSS) of the HC of the helicopter was carried out on the basis of the developed structural scheme using the Advanced Simulation module of the Siemens NX 7.5 system. The main zones of probable fatigue failure of tail booms are determined. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) provides a theoretical basis for design decisions.Shown is the effect of the type of technological process selected for the production of the tail boom on the strength of the HB structure. The stability of the characteristics of the PCM tail boom largely depends on the extent to which its design is suitable for the use of mechanized and automated production processes.A method for the manufacture of a helicopter tail boom from PCM by the automated winding method is proposed. A variant of computer modeling of the tail boom of a mesh structure made of PCM is shown. The automated winding technology can be recommended for implementation in the design of the composite tail boom of the Mi-2 and Mi-8 helicopters.

The milling planer bed is one of the most important foundational parts for the entire machine, sufficient stiffness is required. The posterior segment of a certain milling planer bed is regarded as the optimization object in this paper. Three-dimensional modeling method is used to calculate the exact weight of the bed and then finite element analysis is used to research the static and dynamic characteristics before and after weight-reduction. The weak link of the bed is found out and a improvement scheme is put forward ensuring lower production costs under the premise of sufficient rigidity.

The finite element analysis of large air cooling tower was carried out using ABAQUS. On the basis of strength above,8 types of the axial force are analyzed and summarized, find valuable rules, and put forward the further optimization design. So that it can satisfy the strength and stability of air cooling tower, the structure is more reasonable, reduce weight, reduce the cost.

The present paper, describes a transient translating elasto-plastic thermo-mechanical finite element model to study 2-D frictional rolling contact. Frictional two-dimensional contact is simulated by repeatedly translating a non-uniform thermo-mechanical distribution across the surface of an elasto-plastic half space. The half space is represented by a two dimensional finite element mesh with appropriate boundaries. Calculations are for an elastic-perfectly plastic material and the selected thermo-physical properties are assumed to be temperature independent. The paper presents temperature variations, stress and plastic strain distributions and deformations. Residual tensile stresses are observed. The magnitude and depth of these stresses depends on 1) the temperature gradients and 2) the magnitudes of the normal and tangential tractions.

In this paper, a finite element code especially for micro-magnetostrictive actuators was developed. Two significant characteristics of the presented finite element code are: (1) the magnetostrictive hysteresis phenomenon is effectively taken into account; (2) intrinsic geometric feature of typical thin film structures of large length to thickness ratio, which makes it very difficult to construct finite element mesh in the region of the thin film, is considered reasonably in modeling micro-magneostrictive actuators. For verification purpose, magnetostrictive thin films were fabricated and tested in the form of a cantilevered actuator. The Tb-Fe film and Sm-Fe film are sputtered on the Si and Polyimide substrates individually. The magnetic and magnetostrictive properties of the sputtered magnetostrictive films are measured. The measured magnetostrictive coefficients are compared with the numerically calculated ones.

Abstract This paper presents a finite element mesh generation algorithm (PREPAT) designed to automatically discretize two-dimensional domains. The mesh generation algorithm is a mapping scheme which creates a uniform isoparametric FE model based on a pre-partitioned domain of the component. The proposed algorithm provides a faster and more accurate tool in the pre-processing phase of a Finite Element Analysis (FEA). A primary goal of the developed mesh generator is to create a finite element model requiring only essential input from the analyst. As a result, the generator code utilizes only a sketch, based on geometric primitives, and information relating to loading/boundary conditions. These conditions represents the constraints that are propagated throughout the model and the available finite elements are uniformly mapped in the resulting sub-domains. Relative advantages and limitations of the mesh generator are discussed. Examples are presented to illustrate the accuracy, efficiency and applicability of PREPAT.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to realize the lightweight of connecting rod and meet the requirements of low energy consumption and vibration. Based on the structural design of the original connecting rod, the finite element analysis was conducted to reduce the weight and increase the natural frequencies, so as to reduce materials consumption and improve the energy efficiency of internal combustion engine. Design/methodology/approach The finite element analysis, structural optimization design and topology optimization of the connecting rod are applied. Efficient hybrid method is deployed: static and modal analysis; and structure re-design of the connecting rod based on topology optimization. Findings After the optimization of the connecting rod, the weight is reduced from 1.7907 to 1.4875 kg, with a reduction of 16.93%. The maximum equivalent stress of the optimized connecting rod is 183.97 MPa and that of the original structure is 217.18 MPa, with the reduction of 15.62%. The first, second and third natural frequencies of the optimized connecting rod are increased by 8.89%, 8.85% and 11.09%, respectively. Through the finite element analysis and based on the lightweight, the maximum equivalent stress is reduced and the low-order natural frequency is increased. Originality/value This paper presents an optimization method on the connecting rod structure. Based on the statics and modal analysis of the connecting rod and combined with the topology optimization, the size of the connecting rod is improved, and the static and dynamic characteristics of the optimized connecting rod are improved.
