The article deals with dendritic structures resulting from self-organization processes in aqueous solutions of albumin proteins. The methods for obtaining the structures and experimental results are presented. It is shown that dendrites are fractal structures that are symmetric under certain conditions of their formation and can have different characteristics depending on the isothermal dehydration of liquid samples. The fractal dimension of the structures in films of the albumin protein solution has been calculated. Dependences of the fractal dimension on the concentrations of salts and protein in the initial solutions and also on the dehydration temperature have been revealed. It has been shown that as the protein concentration in the solution grows, the salt concentration for the initiation of the dendritic structure formation increases. It has been found that the temperature dependences of the fractal dimension of the structures become smoother with increasing protein concentration in solutions. The relationship between geometric characteristics of dendrites and self-organization parameters during drying is discussed.

The color of a therapeutic monoclonal antibody solution is a critical quality attribute. Consistency of color is typically assessed at time of release and during stability studies against preset criteria for late stage clinical and commercial products. A therapeutic protein solution’s color may be determined by visual inspection or by more quantitative methods as per the different geographical area compendia. The nature and intensity of the color of a therapeutic protein solution is typically determined relative to calibrated standards. This review covers the analytical methodologies used for determining the color of a protein solution and presents an overview of protein variants and impurities known to contribute to colored recombinant therapeutic protein solutions.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, the study aims to investigate the relationship between the altmetric indicators from ResearchGate (RG) and the bibliometric indicators from the Scopus database. Second, the study seeks to examine the relationship amongst the RG altmetric indicators themselves. RG is a rich source of altmetric indicators such as Citations, RGScore, Impact Points, Profile Views, Publication Views, etc. Design/methodology/approach – For establishing whether RG metrics showed the same results as the established sources of metrics, Pearson’s correlation coefficients were calculated between the metrics provided by RG and the metrics obtained from Scopus. Pearson’s correlation coefficients were also calculated for the metrics provided by RG. The data were collected by visiting the profile pages of all the members who had an account in RG under the Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh (India). Findings – The study showed that most of the RG metrics showed strong positive correlation with the Scopus metrics, except for RGScore (RG) and Citations (Scopus), which showed moderate positive correlation. It was also found that the RG metrics showed moderate to strong positive correlation amongst each other. Research limitations/implications – The limitation of this study is that more and more scientists and researchers may join RG in the future, therefore the data may change. The study focuses on the members who had an account in RG under the Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh (India). Perhaps further studies can be conducted by increasing the sample size and by taking a different sample size having different characteristics. Originality/value – Being an emerging field, not much has been conducted in the area of altmetrics. Very few studies have been conducted on the reach of academic social networks like RG and their validity as sources of altmetric indicators like RGScore, Impact Points, etc. The findings offer insights to the question whether RG can be used as an alternative to traditional sources of bibliometric indicators, especially with reference to a rapidly developing country such as India.

Various deposits of CdO grains were observed on the surface of N 100 silicon crystals heated at 580 °C and 620 °C for 1 hour in an evaporation-deposition device, respectively. The ball-shaped crystals, and regular-prism-shaped crystals were found on top of bush-like long crystals. Two types of CdO self-organization aggregates were also observed, that is, regular circular-shaped dense aggregate and long-chainshaped aggregate. The self-organization aggregates were composed of numerous submicron CdO grains. The relationship between self-organization aggregates and surface defects of virgin N 100 silicon crystal was investigated. The results showed that the CdO self-organization aggregates were related to surface defects of the virgin N 100 silicon crystal, and a defect induced aggregation (DIA) model is suggested.

We review in this paper the first results obtained in an attempt at understanding quantum space-time based on a new extension of the principle of relativity and on the geometrical concept of fractals. We present methods for dealing with the nondifferentiability and the infinities of fractals, as a first step towards the definition and intrinsic description of a fractal space. After having recalled that the Heisenberg relations imply a transition of spatial coordinates of a particle to fractal dimension 2 about the de Broglie length λ = ħ/p, it is suggested that a similar transition occurs for temporal coordinates about the de Broglie time τ = ħ/E. We then investigate the hypothesis that the microstructure of space-time is of fractal nature, and that the observed properties of the quantum world at a given resolution result from the smoothing of curvilinear coordinates of such a spacetime projected into classical spacetime. Along this road, we successively study the link of fractal dimension 2 to spin, we give first hints on the expected behavior of families of fractal geodesics, and we exhibit a general class of fractal structures which is assumed to yield a lowest order description of the quantum vacuum. The links between the new approach and both special and general relativity are touched upon. We finally suggest that the anomalous peaks recently observed in the spectra of positrons from supercritical heavy ion collisions may be understood in this context.

The microstructure of reservoir rocks plays an important role in oil and gas accumulation and production. We examine a universal method to evaluate these properties of rocks, such as pore tortuosity, matrix porosity, and connectivity, and we respectively construct a 2D numerical reconstruction rock model with different microstructure parameters by the Monte Carlo method and the quartet structure generation set method. We further study the heterogeneity (characterized by fractal dimension and tortuosity) of the constructed image for reservoir rocks by the numerical and theoretical analysis and obtain the formulas for fractal dimension and tortuosity versus porosity. The simulation results show that the logarithmic relation is between the pore fractal dimension and porosity, and the relationship between tortuosity and porosity has the form of power. This process provided an important method to advance 2D reconstruction technology of reservoir rocks and effectively determine the relationship between microstructure and porosity.

The quality and assessment of a reservoir can be documented in details by the application of seismo magnetic power density. This research aims to calculate fractal dimension from the relationship among seismo magnetic power density, maximum seismo magnetic power density and wetting phase saturation and to approve it by the fractal dimension derived from the relationship among inverse pressure head * pressure head and wetting phase saturation. Two equations for calculating the fractal dimensions have been employed. The first one describes the functional relationship between wetting phase saturation, seismo magnetic power density, maximum seismo magnetic power density and fractal dimension. The second equation implies to the wetting phase saturation as a function of pressure head and the fractal dimension. Two procedures for obtaining the fractal dimension have been utilized. The first procedure was done by plotting the logarithm of the ratio between seismo magnetic power density and maximum seismo magnetic power density versus logarithm wetting phase saturation. The slope of the first procedure = 3- Df (fractal dimension). The second procedure for obtaining the fractal dimension was determined by plotting the logarithm (inverse of pressure head and pressure head) versus the logarithm of wetting phase saturation. The slope of the second procedure = Df -3. On the basis of the obtained results of the fabricated stratigraphic column and the attained values of the fractal dimension, the sandstones of the Shajara reservoirs of the Shajara Formation were divided here into three units

The issue of developing strategic trust at different levels of self-organization of territorial communities gains increasing importance in Russia. This article considers trust and responsibility as integral components of forming a sustainable society and implementation of modernization processes. The author turns to the problem of the relationship between these concepts and reveals trends in the dynamics of trust relationships in Russia and its regions. This article relies on the results of comparative sociological and cultural studies in the Tomsk (2015), Kursk (2016), and Tyumen (2016) regions, as well as in Russia overall (2015). The comparison of results from sociological researches shows the characteristics of institutional and interpersonal trust. The author notes that the new challenges to the development of society associated with the tasks of transition to system modernization create an increased demand for strengthening social partnership and the establishment of qualitative and constructive public policy. There is a trend to activate the position of citizens in defending their rights, as well as in helping vulnerable categories of the population. In conclusion, the author shows practical steps of individual regions on the way of creation of solidary society.

Social scientists have been intrigued by the relationship between generations based on different characteristics. Economists, has been especially interested in measuring intergenerational income elasticity, which looks at the relationship of parents and that of their children when they become adults and gives clue on trends of income inequality. Most of the literature concentrates on the experiences of developed countries and measurement issues. Nevertheless, new studies concerning intergenerational income elasticity is being undertaken in developing countries as the data become increasingly available for these countries. In this vein, there is only one previous study that investigates intergenerational income elasticity for Turkey. Mercan (2012) finds that intergenerational income elasticity is around 0.1 in Turkey, which depicts Turkey as a highly mobile country meaning that children of poor parents have a higher likelihood to have a better income status. However, his study does not depend on a longitudinal dataset, which might make Mercan’s (2012) estimate biased. Following Solon (1992) in using OLS for lower bound and instrumental variable (IV) for upper bound, this study puts forth a new estimate, which relies on a nationally representative and longitudinal dataset for Turkey. The study's estimate for intergenerational income elasticity varies between 0.3 and 0.6, which is much higher than the result of Mercan (2012), indicating that Turkey is a less mobile country than previously foreseen.
