By selecting the ratio of the cumulative maximum deformation of the retaining structure to the excavation depth as the control parameter of the retaining structure deformation, this paper established a sidewall unloading model which can consider the deformation of the retaining structure and the spatial effect of foundation pit excavation. Meanwhile, the impact region of the sidewall was divided to calculate the distribution of additional stress caused by foundation pit excavation. On this basis, through introducing the collaborative deformation model for rotation and dislocation of a shield tunnel, this paper studied the longitudinal deformation of the adjacent shield tunnel due to foundation pit excavation. Moreover, several engineering cases were given to verify the reliability of the proposed method, and the influencing factors were analyzed. The following conclusions were obtained: the axial horizontal displacement of the shield tunnel by the side of the foundation pit was normally distributed, and the calculated value was in good agreement with the measured value; the longitudinal deformation of the shield tunnel was mainly induced by the unloading effect of the sidewall of the foundation pit, which was parallel and closed to the tunnel; the soil excavation in the vicinity of the buried depth of the tunnel would result in a significant increase in longitudinal deformation; with the increase in the retaining structure deformation of the foundation pit, the longitudinal deformation of the adjacent shield tunnel and its influence scope also increased; the longitudinal deformation of the shield tunnel decreased with the increase of clearances between the foundation pit and tunnel; and finally, the excavation of the foundation pit had a great influence on the shallowly buried shield tunnel nearby, and the effect of foundation pit excavation on the tunnel decreased with the increase of the burial depth of the shield tunnel.

In order to research the theory for the variety of transverse forces of the adjacent shield tunnels caused by foundation pits excavation, the effect mechanism of foundation pit excavation on the adjacent shield tunnel was analyzed. The sidewall unloading model of the foundation pit, considering the deformation of the retaining structures, was introduced to calculate the additional stress of soil caused by foundation pit excavation. On this basis, the additional confining pressure variation model of the adjacent shield tunnel was established, considering the influence of the longitudinal deformation. Take the deep foundation pit project by the side of the shield tunnel of Hangzhou Metro Line 2 as a case study, the variation in confining pressure distribution of the adjacent shield tunnel caused by foundation pit excavation was analyzed, and a simplified finite element model was established to calculate the internal force of the segment ring structure. Moreover, the influence factors were analyzed, such as the deformation of the foundation pit retaining structure, the clearance between the foundation pit and the adjacent tunnel, and the buried depth of the tunnel. The present study suggests that the foundation pit excavation reduces the confining pressure of the adjacent shield tunnel, increases the absolute value of bending moment and shear force, and decreases the axial force at the top and bottom of the tunnel’s segment ring. With the increase in the deformation of the foundation pit’s retaining structure, the absolute value of the additional confining pressure on the adjacent tunnel increases, and the response of the bending moment to the foundation pit excavation unloading is more obvious than the variation in the confining pressure. When the buried depth of the adjacent shield tunnel is deeper than the excavation depth of the foundation pit, the influence of the excavation on the tunnel will be obviously weakened. With the decrease in the distance between the pit and tunnel, the influence of the excavation on the tunnel will be enhanced.

The Jabung oilfield in Indonesia is characterized by complex geological structural movement, large tectonic stress and high temperature gradient. Accidents such as borehole collapse and sticking were frequently encountered when drilling shale formations, which often result in serious damage. In this paper, a series of experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of shale in drilling fluid, including linear expansion rate evaluation tests and rolling recovery evaluation tests. Also X-ray diffraction was used to analyze the mineral composition of shale. The mechanical parameters of shale were obtained through statistical analysis. By using ABAQUS software, the temperature difference induced by thermal stress distribution was analyzed. After that, the borehole stress distribution was determined by coupling the additional stress with in-situ stress. Finally, based on borehole stability mechanical models, the effects of well trajectory on borehole stability were analyzed. We found that the chemical properties of drilling fluid, wellbore trajectory and temperature has a great influence on wellbore stability, and the impact of temperature changes and of well trajectory are the largest factor.

Similar material model test and numerical simulation method were used to study the reinforcement effect of isolation piles on the existing shield tunnel structure in the adjacent building construction for analyzing foundation pit excavation and new building construction approaching existing shield tunnel engineering. The numerical simulation orthogonal experiment was used to optimize four isolation pile parameters. The conclusions were obtained as follows: (1) Isolation piles could share horizontal load of the soil at the rear side of the support structure and reduce horizontal displacement of the soil. As a result, maximum horizontal displacement of the tunnel structure and differences in horizontal displacement between the tunnel structure roof and the floor after foundation pit excavation and building loading were decreased. The horizontal displacement and torsional deformation of the tunnel structure toward the direction of the foundation pit were controlled, and the increase in internal forces of the transverse tunnel structure was also restrained. (2) At the elevation above the tunnel roof, the increase in burial depth of the isolation pile top slightly affected the reinforcement effect on the tunnel structure. The increase in burial depth of the isolation pile bottom could improve the reinforcement effect. Thus, burial depth of the isolation pile bottom should be properly increased in the engineering practice. The reduction in pile spacing could improve the reinforcement effect. Accordingly, pile spacing should be properly selected in the engineering practice. With the increase of diameter of the isolation pile, the reinforcement effect of isolation piles increased obviously. (3) Pile diameter had the greatest influence on the reinforcement effect of isolation piles, followed by burial depth of the pile bottom, pile spacing, and burial depth of the pile top. Orthogonal experiments indicated the following optimal parameter values: a pile diameter of 1.2 m, a burial depth of the pile bottom of 2H, a pile spacing of 1.6 m, and a burial depth of the pile top of 0.75Z.

Traditionally the products were pushed into the hands of customers by production and selling strategies; then the marketing strategy evolved which gained momentum by understanding the customer needs and developing products satisfying those needs. This strategy is most prevalent and what should be done to stand up in this most competitive scenario? The answer to this key question is to create an experience. The customers now also seek good experiences than other benefits. Brand experience has gained more attention, especially fashion brands. Previous studies demonstrate the role of the brand experience in brand equity and other consumer behavior constructs. But very little is known about the impact of brand experiences on fashion brands. The aim of this study is to develop a model which makes our understanding better about the role of Brand preference and Brand experience and its influence on purchase intention of the brand. An initial exploratory study is conducted using a focus group to generate items for the study. The items, thus generated are prepared in the form of a questionnaire and samples were collected.  Exploratory factor analysis is conducted and the reliability of the constructs is determined. These constructs are loaded onto AMOS to perform Confirmatory factor analysis. The results confirmed the scales used. We also noticed that Brand preference has a great influence on the Brand experience. Thereby the finding supports the role of the brand experience which tends to have a mediating role in influencing the purchase intention.

Considering the interaction of building-soil-tunnel, the grillage beams foundation frame building vertical crossed by Double-O-Tube (DOT) shield tunnel was simulated by 3D MIDAS/ GTS software, and the impact of construction on the building was analyzed. The results show that: the ground settlement trough caused by DOT shield tunnel can be fitted by peck formula; during the passage of the shield tunneling through the building, the settlement of the building increased and settlement trough was wilder; the settlement was stable and had a little rebound when shield machine already passed the building; with the increase of driving distance, the first principal stress P1 increased and then was stable; with the increase of L, the shape of foundation settlement curve changed, and the maximum differential settlement between columns increased but was small.

The enclosure pile is extensively used as retaining structure in the foundation pit excavation. And it is always combined with other reinforcement measures. So it is unreasonable to a certain degree that the enclosure pile is analyzed as cantilever structure. Taken the deep foundation pit of a subway station in Hefei for instance, the effect of other reinforcement measures on restrained conditions of enclosure piles in the paper was taken into account. And the behavior of enclosure pile under various restrained conditions was analyzed. Based on that, some helpful suggestions for practical retaining structure of foundation pit were put forward.

Goal setting within social marketing campaigns is art and science. An analysis of Rare Pride conservation campaigns shows the quantitative, replicable relationship among the impact of these conservation campaigns with diffusion of innovation theory, and collective behavior theory that can guide marketers to set better goals. Rare is an environmental conservation organization that focuses on reducing community-based threats to biodiversity through a social marketing campaign called Pride. Pride campaigns work by removing barriers to change (whether they are technical, social, and political or something else) and inspiring people to make change happen. Based on the analysis of historical Pride campaign survey data, we found that the starting percentage of engagement has a great influence on the percentage change at the end of the campaign: The higher the initial adoption level of knowledge, attitude, and behavior change, the easier these measures are to improve. The result also suggests a difference in the potential of change with different audience segments: It is easiest to change influencer, then general public, and finally resource user who are the target of the social marketing campaign. In this article, we will analyze how to use diffusion of innovation and collective behavior theories to explain the impact of campaigns, as well as how to set more attainable goals. This article is consistent with similar research in the field of public health, which should help marketers set goals more tightly, allocate resources more effectively, and better manage donor expectations.

Shield construction will cause surface subsidence, and the presence of underground structures above the tunnel has an impact on surface subsidence. Based on this, with the engineering of undercross shield tunnel construction on railway station as background, used numerical simulation method to analyze the effect of surface subsidence of underground passage, and studied the influence of depth and width of underpasses on ground movement induced. The results show that: The impact of the underground passage to the wire surface subsidence caused by the shield cannot be ignored. Surface subsidence caused by double shield will be decreased because of the existence of the underground passage, and that related to the channel depth and width. The greater the depth of underground channel, the greater the surface subsidence; greater the underground channel width, the smaller surface subsidence. Meanwhile, the surface subsidence trough width and the largest settlement scope unrelated to the depth of underground tunnels but the underground channel width, and increases with the increasing of the underpass width.

AbstractSesbania [Sesbania cannabina(Retz.) Pers.] is a problematic emerging weed species in Australian cotton-farming systems. However, globally, no information is available regarding its seed germination biology, and better understanding will help in devising superior management strategies to prevent further infestations. Laboratory and glasshouse studies were conducted to evaluate the impact of various environmental factors such as light, temperature, salt, osmotic and pH stress, and burial depth on germination and emergence of two Australian biotypes ofS. cannabina. Freshly harvested seeds of both biotypes possessed physical dormancy. A boiling-water scarification treatment (100±2 C) of 5-min duration was the optimum treatment to overcome this dormancy. Once dormancy was broken, the Dalby biotype exhibited a greater germination (93%) compared with the St George biotype (87%). The nondormant seeds of both biotypes showed a neutral photoblastic response to light and dark conditions, with germination marginally improved (6%) under illumination. Maximum germination of both biotypes occurred under an alternating temperature regime of 30/20 and 35/25 C and under constant temperatures of 32 or 35 C, with no germination at 8 or 11 C. Seed germination of both biotypes decreased linearly from 87% to 14% with an increase in moisture stress from 0.0 to −0.8 MPa, with no germination possible at −1.0 MPa. There was a gradual decline in germination for both biotypes when imbibed in a range of salt solutions of 25 to 250 mM, with a 50% reduction in germination occurring at 150 mM. Both biotypes germinated well under a wide range of pH values (4.0 to 10.0), with maximum germination (94%) at pH 9.0. The greatest emergence rate of the Dalby (87%) and St George (78%) biotypes was recorded at a burial depth of 1.0 cm, with no emergence at 16.0 cm. Deep tillage seems to be the best management strategy to stopS. cannabina’s emergence and further infestation of cotton (Gossypium hirsutumL.) fields. The findings of this study will be helpful to cotton agronomists in devising effective, sustainable, and efficient integrated weed management strategies for the control ofS. cannabinain cotton cropping lands.
