This paper investigates the time to complete the boarding of a partially occupied two-door airplane when its passengers are transported from the airport terminal to the airplane using two apron buses. We propose a greedy method that assigns each passenger to a particular apron bus based on the passengers’ airplane seat assignments. This greedy approach exploits the airplane’s symmetry by providing essentially the same method for those boarding through the front door of the airplane as those boarding through the rear door of the airplane. The symmetrical properties of window, middle, and aisle seats of each row/side are considered in the proposed method as well. Computer simulation results indicate that, when using the greedy method, the boarding time can be reduced by up to 8.33% compared to the boarding time resulting from the best known practices in the literature, and with up to a 43.72% improvement in boarding time when compared to the boarding method commonly used in many airports. Furthermore, experimental results confirm our hypothesis that when the capacity of the apron buses exceeds the number of passengers to be transported to the airplane, the most time-efficient results of the proposed greedy method occur when an equal number of passengers are assigned to each of the two apron buses.

AbstractIn practice, some differences are usually observed between computer simulation and experimental results of a chaotic circuit. In this paper, it is tried to obtain computer simulation results having more correlation with those obtained in practice by using more realistic models for chaotic circuits. This goal is achieved by considering the fractionality nature of electrical capacitors in the model of a chaotic circuit.

In this letter, we study the use of adaptive controllers to maintain the synchronization of two Chua's oscillators when the channel and circuit parameters are time-varying. We present both computer simulation results and physical experimental results to verify the operation of the designs.

It is known that vibratory feeders are the most versatile of all hopper feeding devices for small engineering parts and play a key role in assembly automation. This work develops a mathematical model of the part motion in vibratory feeding, from which how the part works can be better known. A computer simulation programmed with MATLAB has been made to predict the conveying velocity of the parts in vibration feeding system, and furthermore, experiments have been carried out for verification purpose. The experimental results show that the simulation results are reasonable, and hence can be used to improve the design of vibratory feeding system.

A need exists for tools to improve evaluations of the economics of landfill gas recovery. A computer simulation tool is presented. It uses a spreadsheet computer program to calculate the economics for a fixed set of inputs, and a simulation program to consider variations in the inputs. The method calculates the methane generated each year, and estimates the costs and incomes associated with the recovery and sale of the gas. Base case results are presented for a city of 500,000. An uncertainty analysis for a hypothetical case is presented. The simulation results can help an analyst see the key variables affecting the economics of a project.

A simulation describing the fiber movement during the condensation was conducted, and the effect of the condensation in the carding machine was studied. The simulation results showed that the condensation has the blending and the evening effect on the condensed sliver, which can be explained by the fiber rearrangement. Moreover, the increasing web width and the decreasing condensing length can result in a more uniform sliver. Further, the evening effect of the web width on the web was verified by experiments. The simulation results were in general agreement with the experimental results.

For the purposes of correcting the LED display image, a method based on computer simulation is proposed. First, the development of the LED display panel is introduced. Second, analyze the causes of the problem which image in LED display panel has serious high non-uniformity, and introduce the existed correction techniques which are used to reduce the non-uniformity of LED display image. Simultaneously, point out the ground for shortcomings of these techniques. Third, describe the principle of correction method based on computer simulation detail from two steps, which are the luminous collection and luminous copulation. Forth, describe the realization steps of this method in accordance with the third step. Finally, this method is supplied in a LED display panel, whose resolution is 640×480. Experimental results show that this method is able to reduce the non-uniformity of images from 11.06% to 0.98%..

In order to solve the problem of road feel feedback of vehicle steer-by-wire (SBW) system based on joystick, a road feel control strategy was established to analyze the road feel theory of traditional steer system, which included return, assist and damp control module. By verifying the computer simulation results with the control strategy from software of CarSim and Matlab/Simulink, it shows that the proposed strategy can effective get road feel in different vehicle speed conditions and could improve the vehicle maneuverability to achieve desired steering feel by different drivers.

ABSTRACTDissociation of the ao<110> screw dislocation in Ni3Al was studied using the embedded atom method of computer simulation. The dissociation occurred predominantly along the {111} plane, however, a {001}-plane step occurred in the APB at the center of the configuration. When a pair of ao/2<110> superpartials initially separated in the {111} plane was relaxed, the step formed once again but with a reduced height. When the pair was relaxed from larger distances the step was not formed. The results indicate that the elastic interaction “torque” due to elastic anisotropy is responsible for the formation of the {001} APB step. When a stress was applied to these dislocation configurations by simulation, results confirmed that the step in the APB and the octahedral cross-slipped-core dissociations can be significant barriers to glide of the screw dislocation.
